The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games kicked off last week, and the Malaysian contingent has been busy doing us proud!

As of day seven, Malaysia's medal tally at the Games is four gold, two silver, and three bronze.

The national contingent's aim is to win a total of six gold medals in the current edition of the Games that is running from 28 July to 8 August.

Here are the athletes who have won medals for Malaysia to date:

1. Aniq Kasdan (Weightlifting)

Aniq Kasdan secured Malaysia's first gold medal of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after lifting a total of 249kg in the men's 55kg category.

The 20-year-old Johor-born set a new Games record and also beat competition favourite Sanket Mahadev Sargar of India and Sri Lanka's Dilanka Isuru Kumara Yodage.

2. Aznil Bidin (Weightlifting)

Winning the second gold medal for Malaysia is Aznil Bidin in the men's 61kg category.

With a combined total lift of 285kg, the 28-year-old set a new Games record and also defended his gold medal position that he won in the 2018 Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

3. Shah Firdaus Sahrom (Cycling)

National track cyclist Shah Firdaus Sahrom powered his way to a bronze medal in the men's keirin event on day two of the event.

He came only behind Nicholas Paul of Trinidad and Tobago, who bagged gold, and Jack Carlin of Scotland who settled for silver.

It was a near miss for gold as the cyclist finished first in each of the first two rounds.

Nonetheless, his medal finish matches other national cyclist Azizulhasni Awang's highest keirin achievement in the Games.

4. Muhammad Erry Hidayat (Weightlifting)

Bringing home a silver medal is Muhammad Erry Hidayat in the men's 73kg category with an overall lift of 303kg on day three.

The 22-year-old son of former national weightlifter Hidayat Hamidon finished behind India's Achinta Sheuli, who recorded a total lift of 313kg.

5. Tee Ai Xin, Karen Lyne, Alice Chang, Ho Ying (Table Tennis)

Malaysia won another silver medal when the national women's table tennis team eliminated defending champions India 3-2 in the quarter-finals, before losing 3-0 to Singapore in the team event.

Veteran lawn bowler Siti Zalina Ahmad won a bronze medal in the women's singles at the Victoria Park in Birmingham on day four.
After losing to Guernsey's Lucy Beere 15-21 in the semi-finals, the 43-year-old bagged her fifth Commonwealth Games medal after overcoming Norfolk Island's Shae Wilson 21-10 in the playoff for third spot.

7. The National Badminton Team (Badminton)

It was a team effort to pull off this win on day five of the Games.
Malaysia's national badminton team has bagged the nation's third gold medal after defeating defending champions, India, 3-1 in the mixed team final.
Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik delivered a point in the men's doubles, Ng Tze Yong in the men's singles, and Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan took home the stunning victory in their women's doubles match.

8. Amir Daniel (Judo)

The 17-year-old judoka bagged a bronze in the under 73kg weight class, after his opponent, Dato Matsoukatov from Cyprus, was disqualified for violating the rules of the competition.

No less impressive, Amir had defeated Mozambique's Narciso Mozana, to reach the bronze medal fight, and became the first Malaysian to win a judo medal at the Commonwealth Games.

9. Bonnie Bunyau Gustin (Weightlifting)

National para-powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau Gustin broke a Commonwealth Games record while clinching Malaysia's fourth gold medal in the men's below 72kg event.
The 23-year-old won with 154.6 points, following successive record-breaking lifts of 210kg, 216kg, and 220kg.

Way to go, Team Malaysia! We're cheering you on!
