Abhishek and Aishwarya seek Venkateswara's blessings

Newly-wed Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai on Sunday sought the blessings of Lord Venkateshwara at the famous hill shrine at Tirumala near Tirupati.

The Bollywood stars, who entered wedlock on Friday, were in the sanctum sanctorum for about ten minutes, temple sources told a news agency.

Abhishek's father Amitabh Bachahan , mother Jaya Bachchan , noted industrialist Anil Ambani and his wife Tina accompanied the couple.

During their stay at the sanctum sanctorium from 0940 am to 0950 am, the priests chanted prayers and offered them the celestial ghee lamp 'arathi', the sources said.

Later, chief priest Sri Ramana Dik#hulu showered "divine blessings" upon the couple at the Sri Ranganayaka Mandapa in the temple.

Abhishek and Aishwarya also made some cash offerings in the Hundi (offering Box) situated at Dwarapalas Mandapam close to the sanctum sanctorium, the sources said.

Abhishek and Aishwarya also offered prayers at the sacred golden altar and the traditional golden flag mast at the shrine.

The temple officials distributed sacred silk cloths, holy water and 'laddu prasadam' to the guests.

Abhishek was attired in a white kurta, while Aishwarya was wearing a red saree.

Tight security arrangements had been put in place in and around the shrine and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's three palatial guest houses in view of the visit of the celebrities.

The couple and the entourage consisting of about 40 people arrived at Tirupati at 9.00 am.

About a dozen luxury cars were pressed into service to take them to the hills from Renigunta airport, about 15 kms from here.

Ahead of the marriage, Amitabh Bachchan accompanied by Anil Ambani and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh offered prayers at the hill temple on Sunday last and offered Rs 51 lakh each to the temple.

Abhishek, Aishwarya arrive at Prateeksha

Newly married couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai arrived this evening at the Bachchan family's residence Prateeksha in suburban Juhu after bidding farewell to the bride's family in Bandra.

They arrived at the bungalow at 7 pm but their entry was marred when a photojournalist from a newspaper was allegedly hit by a private security guard escorting the couple's cream coloured flower-decorated car.

Abhishek and Ash will offer prayers at the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala near Tirupati on Sunday.

Temple sources said that a party of about thirty family members and friends of both Abhishek and Ash would also accompany them on a two-hour pilgrimage in the forenoon to the hill temple.

Their visit is a closely guarded secret and the Tirumala Tirupati Dewasthanam (TTD) that manages the shrine did not want to reveal more details.

However, it is believed that mega superstar, Amitabh Bachchan , his wife Jaya Bachchan and industrialist Anil Ambani may also be coming along with the newly wed couple. It is not clear if Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh would also accompany them.

Tight security arrangements are being made at three TTD's palatial guesthouses for the visitors.

Ahead of his son's marriage, Bachchan accompanied by Anil Ambani and Amar Singh offered prayers at the hill temple on Sunday last. The trio also offered Rs.51 lakh each to the temple.

Meanwhile, the couple also visited Lilavati hospital late Friday night after the marriage ceremony where Abhishek's grandmother Teji Bachchan has been admitted for quite some time.

However, the couple did not come out of the car when they saw a huge media presence at the gate of the hospital.

Only Big B, who had accompanied them, was seen entering the hospital.

Emotional Aishwarya Rai bids farewell to parents

It was an emotional moment for Aishwarya Rai today as she bid farewell to her parents and relatives to embark on her new life as a member of one of India's most iconic families.

Clad in a cream-coloured lehenga, Ash cried as she hugged mother Brinda Rai during the 'bidaai' (traditional farewell) from her residence La Merin in suburban Bandra. Ash and Abhishek Bachchan had tied the nuptial knot in Mumbai Friday.

"Obviously every daughter gets emotional when she bids goodbye to the house in which she is brought up in but there is also sense of happiness that she is going to a man whom she loved," said Ash's business manager Hari Singh.

Ash came into a traditional 'doli' (palanquin) till the gate of the building from where the star couple moved on into a decorated car to escape the prying eyes of the media.

Earlier, the entire Bachchan clan including Amitabh Bachchan , wife Jaya Bachchan , daughter Shweta, brother Ajitabh and close friends Anil Ambani and Amar Singh arrived at the Rais' residence for a lavish lunch which included continental, Mughlai and traditional Mangalorian dishes.

The family will participate in a puja to be held before sunset at Bachchans' residence 'Prateeksha' in suburban Juhu.

Now, a tune for Abhi-Ash's child from Shenai player

Renowned Shehnai player Ustad Jamin Hussain has composed a tune to be played to mark the birth of the child of newly-wed actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aiswarya Rai.

The composition titled ganga dware badhaiyan baaje would be played at that time after going to Mumbai, said Jamin Hussain, the son of legendary Shenai player Ustad Bismillah Khan.

Jamin Hussain said he would be disappointed throughout his life that Amitabh Bachchan did not invite him for playing Shehnai on the occasion of Abhishek's marriage.

He said he had even selected the tunes for playing on the occasion of the marriage of Ashwarya and Abhishek but they now reverted in his heart only.

He said however that at the time of birth of Abhishek's child he would go to Mumbai without invitation and would play the tune.

He said that during the engagement of Abhishek and Ashwariya when they had arrived at Vindhyachal in Uttar Pradesh for worshipping in a temple he was called for playing shehnai.

He said that the government had "failed" to fulfil the promise of establishing a Sangeet Natya Academy and a Shehnai school in memory of Ustad Bismillah Khan.

Shilpa is back on Big Brother?

Shilpa Shetty is going back inside the Big Brother house. According to reports, the Bollywood actress will join the Australian version of the reality show. She is flying to Australia next month to promote her new film Metro and programme bosses would like to involve her. A spokesman for Australia's Channel Ten said: "We are trying to work out just how long she can spend in the house." The show's executive producer Tim Toni said: "You have got to throw in a few hand grenades!" He said he hoped her inclusion would "liven up" the house. Isha Koppikar, who came to Bollywood via the South, also pioneered the Item Girl with Khallas in Ram Gopal Varma's Company. Luckily for her, she got some meaty roles too and proved that she is no mean actress. Followed Koena Mitra, but immediately started biting if she was referred to as an Item Girl, for she professed she was an actress, not just an an item. The box-office, however, is still to concur. That way Isha has been more successful and much more professional. Maybe, a little lucky too. Now, Isha plays a very challenging lead role of a woman gangster in Shabri. She clarifies that it is not actually the story of a woman gangster. It is just how a woman makes her way in this male-dominated world . Isha is also doing Atul Agnihotri's Hello based on the recently published novel, Chetan Bhagat's One Night at the Call Centre. Her costars here are Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Sohail Khan and Amrita Arora. Like a good girl, item or otherwise, Isha did her homework well by reading the novel several times, before she sank her teeth into the film script.

Goody not good enough to attend Shilpa's film premiere!

It was recently reported in the media that Shilpa Shetty has invited "Big Brother" co-participant Jade Goody for the London premiere of her forthcoming film "Metro". But it turns out to be yet another false rumour about the actress. "Shilpa has indeed invited a couple of 'Big Brother' participants who are in touch with her after the show. But Jade is not one of them," clarified Dale Bhagwagar, spokesperson and publicist to the Bollywood star. The actress, leaving for London in the second week of May, is also planning to invite some members of the "Big Brother" production team for the premiere of the film, which is directed by Anurag Basu.

Abhishek, Aishwarya pray at Tirupati temple

Newly-wed Bollywood star couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Sunday prayed at the Tirupati temple here, making their first public appearance after their high-profile wedding two days ago. Accompanied by family members and friends, the couple spent 20 minutes at the Ranganayaka Mandapam of the temple and prayed to Lord Balaji, the presiding deity. To the chants of Vedic hymns by 11 priests, the couple offered prayers for a happy married life. A smiling Aishwarya was clad in a golden coloured sari and sported the traditional vermilion mark on her forehead signifying marriage, while Abhishek was attired in a white kurta pyjama. Both cheerfully waved to the huge crowds in the temple complex. Abhishek's father and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his mother Jaya Bachchan also prayed at the temple. Among others in the entourage were Abhishek's sister Shweta, her children, industrialist Anil Ambani, his wife Tina and politician Amar Singh. Hundreds of devotees scrambled to catch a glimpse of the newly-weds. Security personnel had a tough time keeping the crowds at bay. The Bachchans flew into Renigunta airport near here in the morning by a chartered aircraft from Mumbai and drove to the temple. After spending two hours in the temple town, they flew back to Mumbai. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the affairs of the temple, had made elaborate arrangements for the VIP guests. Amitabh, a staunch devotee of Lord Balaji, visited the temple April 15. He had also placed the first wedding invitation card at the feet of the deity seeking blessings for the couple. Amitabh, Anil Ambani and Amar Singh had then each donated Rs.5.1 million each to the temple trust for education of poor children and treatment of poor patients. The Bollywood icon had also visited the temple in December 2005 to pray after recovering from serious health problems. About 50,000 people pray at the temple every day. On special occasions the number crosses the 100,000 mark.

There have been reports on how Bollywood is increasingly moving towards Hollywood's paparazzi culture and right now this section of the media is eyeing none other than the reclusive Akshaye Khanna. A close source has revealed that a magazine wants exclusive pictures of Akshaye and the so-called 'socialite' he has been dating and are willing to pay huge amounts for the same. But Akshaye is not biting the bait and is currently very upbeat about the two films he is shooting with Abbas-Mastan - "Naqab" and "Race". He knows that there is huge curiosity over his love life but has managed to keep his private life under wraps. In fact, he never spoke about former girlfriend Tara Sharma. Even after his break up, there is no photographic evidence about his love life.

Rani Mukherjee awaits release of film and moving into new house with her family

Rani Mukherjee, the 'girl-next-door' of Bollywood, awaits the release of one of her most awaited flicks from Yashraj Films - 'Tara Rum Pum'. The film to be released the coming Friday, is a story that revolves around the fast and dicey world of car racing and entails tragedy and drama in its weaves. The film is expected to tug at the heartstrings of all lovers and entertain children everywhere hugely with its cute stuffed-toy characters. On a personal front, Rani Mukherjee has, in recent months, housed her extremely fortunate parents and brother Raja's family in five star hotel suites while her apartment as well as her bungalow in suburban Mumbai was under renovation and restyling. Her close friend Twinkle Khanna-Kumar (wife of actor Akshay Kumar) has designed the apartment into which the family will move this week. It won't be long before Suzanne-Khan- Roshan (wife of actor Hrithik Roshan) gets the Juhu bungalow ready and the family will move into this spacious home. Rani is Bollywood's most reticent star but has consistently promoted family values and shown exemplary devotion to her parents who, she says, have had 'enough of bad patches'. Sallu, Katrina in Ghai's 'Main Yuvraj'

Salman Khan seems to have made up with showman Subhash Ghai. How else Ghai would sign Sallu in his forthcoming production 'main Yuvraj'? Ghai took a lot of time in giving this title to his next movie. He has meanwhile finalized the lead cast - Sallu and Anil Kapoor among males and Katrina Kaif among females. When Sallu is there, his current girlfriend Katrina cannot be far behind. Ghai has also confirmed Kaif's entry into his camp. Besides, Zaid Khan will also play an important role. Sachin Bhaumik and Kamlesh Pandey have written the story. A.R. Rahman will provide the music. The movie will be on floor in June this year , and Ghai hopes to complete it in six months. So, the movie might release within this year.

Akshay defends Vivek

Only few days ago it was rumored that Vivek Oberoi had approached Vipul Shah for Upen Patel's role in the recently released 'Namastey London'. When Akshay heard it, he got angry and said in disgust: 'I'm absolutely shocked that the people can actually go to such an extent without verifying the facts. Vivek is like a younger brother to me. I wanted Vivek to work in the film and had suggested this to Shah. I wonder why people are saying otherwise. I have great regard for Vivek and his potential as an actor.' Sources close to Akshay confirm that Shah had called Vivek to his office to go through the script and Vivek had then met the director out of respect. But, when Vivek heard the script, he felt the role would fit a newcomer and politely told Shah that he would not be able to do it. The role eventually went to Upen Patel. This has proved to be a great vehicle for Upen, and in spite of being a newcomer the latter has got applaud for his performance in the film.

Salman Khan is often known for wrong reasons though he has a very soft heart. However, the media isn't aware of his gestures towards the sufferers. Recently, Sallu was seen calling upon a child suffering from cancer at the latter's school function. Sallu had been to the child's school and remained with him for over half an hour. Though the media was present there, Sallu avoided bringing to its notice excepting. However, the school principal later disclosed to the media that Salman had only in the recent past given a sum of Rs half a million towards the child's treatment.

However, a fallout of that has been Aishwarya Rai walking out of his next project, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and allotting the same dates to a Karan Johar抯 project, with husband Abhishek. At a press conference later, Gaurang Doshi expressed his unhappiness at the development but added that he would go ahead "Aishwarya or no Aishwarya."

It now seems that Doshi's problems have compounded as there is a buzz about his hero John Abraham too walking out of HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
