Indian actress Rani Mukherjee says new movie made her think of settling down
Playing a doting mother in a Bollywood movie has made Indian actress Rani Mukherjee think of marriage and children, she said in the Indian weekly newspaper Screen.
Mukherjee and fellow Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, who plays an international race car driver in the film, portray college sweethearts who have two children in the movie "Ta Ra Rum Pum," which opens Friday.
The film is about the couple trying to save their marriage after Khan is seriously injured in a car accident.
Mukherjee, 29, said in the newspaper interview that playing a mother was a wonderful experience.
"It made me feel that seven years down the line I would be like that or probably if I had married early and had kids early, by now I would be the mother of two kids," she was quoted as saying.
Mukherjee, widely considered one of India's most talented actresses, has taken on some challenging roles and won awards for playing a young blind woman in the award-winning movie "Black" two years ago.
She described her new character as a typical woman "who can face tough times with courage and a smiling face."
Some of the recent hits she has starred in include "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna" or "Never Say Goodbye," and "Bunty aur (and) Babli."

Rani, the Bachchans' favourite heroine
Rani Mukherjee made a lasting onscreen impact with Amitabh Bachchan in "Black", and her character opposite Abhishek in "Yuva" won them both awards in the best supporting roles.
It is little wonder that both the father and son are all praise for the lady with the husky voice and light eyes, as she will now be featuring alongside both of them in Shaad Ali's adventure crime caper "Bunty Aur Babli".
That she is extremely professional, hardworking, gifted and easygoing is an oft-repeated comment, but the two Bachchans have their individual reasons to like sharing screen space with her.
"In her company, acting becomes a pleasure and a joy. That's why both Pa and I could do the most difficult roles. She makes the atmosphere on the sets so relaxed," enthuses Abhishek.
The senior Bachchan recalls how during "Black" Rani would constantly keep a watch over him. "To make sure I didn't over-tire myself, that I was comfortable. She would ask about my food... a very caring girl. We all are very fond of her."
In "Bunty..." too, Abhishek maintained: "Rani and I had so much fun, it wasn't funny! We just freaked out. It's so different from our other films together."
However, on telling him that the audiences saw Rani and him, as the Amitabh-Jaya avatar of the new millennium, Abhishek raises an eyebrow.
"Really? I don't think so. There cannot be another pair like Ma and Pa. But yes, Rani and I share a great comfort level. And that shows onscreen."
Adds the smiling Bachchan senior: "All three of us are together in 'Bunty...'. Though I don't have too many scenes with Rani - most of her interaction is with Abhishek - it was fun shooting.
"('Bunty...' is) quite a telling contrast from what we did in 'Black'. I think audiences will be pleasantly surprised to see how different in mood and treatment 'Bunty...' is from 'Black'."
He will again be co-starring with Rani in Ravi Chopra's "Babul".
"Yes, there we have a lot more scenes together. And it would certainly be another occasion after 'Black' to sharpen our skills as actors."
Later this year, both father and son will be again work with Rani in Karan Johar's directorial venture.
"Rani will be Abhishek's co-star. She'll have nothing to do with me in Karan's film," reveals Big B, who is also playing a cameo in Amol Palekar's Paheli starring Rani.
With so much of the Bachchans in her career, Rani seems to be in the most enviable position for a leading lady in Bollywood today.

Amisha Patel is for history! | Amisha Patel has never failed to push in the fact she is an economics scholar since the time she sought to enhance her economic status by plunging into Bollywood with Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai.
After the huge debut hit in 2000 with the other debutant, Hrithik Roshan, shot in New Zealand, there was this other mega hit with Sunny Deol, Gadar, a history based film -- on Partition.
Now, can you guess where the economics and history oriented cutie loves to spend her holidays? Sure, she wouldn't mind a run on some beach or a climb up snow-clad mountains. But Amisha Patel -- hear this -- loves visiting historical places, and opt for them any day!
She is also at pains to reveal that she had also done a project thesis on India's ancient temples, forts and palaces while studying in the USA.
At present Amisha is where her heart is, in culturally rich Rajasthan. Of course, when you are shooting you hardly can squeeze out time for a "visit", and Amisha is there shooting for Priyadarshan's movie, Bhool Bhulaiya.
But Amisha waits for the slightest opportunity and break in schedule so that she can immediately take off to the state's glorious historical places.
Amisha managed to visit the famous Raj Palace in Jaipur and was predictably very impressed. She was quite taken up by the palace's architecture, its furniture, chandeliers, silverware and other works of arts.
Amisha revealed her more than cursory interest in the history of the palace by indicating her knowledge about the Princess of the royal family of Chomu inheriting it from her father, the king.
Speaking about her fondest memories of a vacation, Amisha counted the one in Egypt as most memorable. She had visited the great pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and many ancient Egyptian temples standing down the banks of the river Nile.

Lara Dutta: Hottie with brains | While Richard Gere was here to peck up a storm with Shilpa Shetty, another leggy Indian beauty was seen vibing with Robert Redford, though with a lot less to help the TRPs of the news channels!
That Lara Dutta also has the gift of the gab was proved in the beauty contest in which she participitated -- and won. Debuting with her fellow contestant Priyanka Chopra in Andaaz, she had the thunder stolen from her by Priyanka.
While Priyanka has gone from strength to strength, Lara has been an enigmatic non-starter after a sensational start. Her onscreen performances have not warmed the box-office or the critics, but Lara has her winning ways when it comes to carrying herself with dignity and grace off screen and even with her long-standing relationship with Kelly Dorjee.
She used that intellignece, drop-dead gorgeous looks and charming manner to the hilt when the lady turned up at Barcelona.
Holding everyone's attention with graceful ease, Lara was the only Indian actress to be invited as one of the keynote speakers at a mobile phone conference there. Sharing the dais with her was none other than Hollywood star of yesteryears, Robert Redford.
Lara spoke smoothly about the business of Bollywood, revenues through content and other such heavy-duty fundamentals. It was evident that she was vibing terrificly with the cool audience with whom she made an instant 'coonect'.
If she surprised all by her academic knowledge of Bollywood, too, it made us also wonder just where was she failing at her career moves and manoeuvres.

Kissing Emraan wasn't that scary: Sayali Bhagat | Like most of the others, former Miss India Sayali Bhagat too chose to get into acting after winning the Miss India World pageant in 2004.
She will mark her Bollywood debut with 'The Train' opposite Emraan Hashmi and of course with a kiss. The past three years she had spent modeling, taking dance lessons at Shiamak Daver's and attending classes at 'Vidhur Sir's' acting institute.
Later, Hasnain Hyderabadwala and Raksha Mistry were looking out for someone who qualifies as a modern and yet at the same time simple girl for a role in 'The Train', Sayali got selected. Infact, the beautiful lady was also shooting for another film, prior to 'The train', which got stalled.
The other film titled 'Main Rony Aur Jony' was supposed to be her debut film. "We shot for a few days for that film, but suddenly the producer vanished. So what can an actress do in that situation? It was disheartening but everything happens for the best. Now 'The Train' happens to be my debut film and I have no regrets for the past" says a very optimistic Sayali.
She goes on to tell us more about 'The Train' - "I had a chance to portray everything. I could be glamorous, simple and could show my acting and dancing talent as well. The film is basically an emotional thriller.
Emraan and I get married in the film but soon boredom sets into a relationship and the husband tries to stray off. It's about how this couple copes with the extramarital part. The film also has a suspense angle to it."
And a kissing scene too, right? "Yes I have one kissing scene with him" she says and justifies further, "Emraan and I are shown as husband and wife in the film. There is intimacy between them in the beginning, after that boredom sets in their relationship that results in the extramarital affair.
Somewhere it is important to show that in the past there used to be intimacy between them, so the kiss was important. I am a person who wouldn't do something unless it's justified, no matter how horribly clich閐 this sounds when I say that if there is any requirement only then I'll do it.
It has been done in a very professional, classy and decent manner. It's not too jerky for the eyes. It pretty much gels with the film and I think that it is a brilliant job done by my director.
We heard you were petrified about the scene! "Yes, It was quite scary at the beginning. I couldn't sleep all night and even in the morning when I went to the set I had the same thing in my mind. I went there and the shot happened and I asked my director that's it? I am done? I just scared myself more than the actual thing.
Like I said it's done in a very professional manner and it came out very nicely. Emraan makes you feel very comfortable, relaxed and nice so it wasn't very scary. I knew he is a gentleman and everything was just fine in between us. Emraan is a gem as a person.
Obviously he is very charming and one of the reasons for me to do this film is also because I find him very charming.
It's a great opportunity to have him as an onscreen husband and to kiss him. He tries to help you and gives you lot of space to perform. He doesn't like to overpower or interfere in your work yet he is there whenever you need him."

She was flabbergasted at the discovery that she had a lot less dubbing to do than what she had shot for, and three of her long scenes had been completely eliminated!
This happened four days back at Aradhna Studio in Andheri (suburban Mumbai).
Dia plays a reporter in the film She had a long scene with Sanjay Dutt and two long interviews with local people in the climax of the film and these scenes were not expected to be cut. Apparently Lakhia took a call on the editing table and chopped them off.

Shilpa Shetty buys a luxurious home in London
Bollywood star and winner of the Big Brother show Shilpa Shetty seems to be planning a permanent home in London.
Shilpa, who is rocking all the way to the bank since her victory in celebrity 'Big Brother', says the Mirror, has bought a luxurious home in London's plush locality Primrose Hill for a whopping 28 million rupees.Apparently, after her thundering success in the Big Brother show, Shilpa has been getting so many lucrative assignments, that her UK agents have advised her to get a home in London.
In the property that overlooks Central London, Shilpa will rub shoulders with the celebrity world of Britain.
Shilpa has hit a high since the reality show in Britain, says her agent, has been living in hotels and naturally wants a home.
Shilpa plans to divide her time between Mumbai and London in the future.
Currently busy putting final touches to her forthcoming film Metro , Shilpa has shown a rare streak of generosity by inviting her tormentor in the Big Brother show Jade Goody to the film's London premiere.
Daniel Lloyd and Joe O'Mara, from the reality show who helped Goody to humiliate Shilpa with racial slurs bringing her to a near breakdown, are also invited to the event.
UK media says that the film will certainly benefit from Shilpa's current popularity and status in Britain.

Saif Ali Khan not passionate about car racing
He might be playing a race car driver in this Friday抯 release Tara Rum Pum . But in real life, actor Saif Ali Khan is not passionate about car racing.
Though Saif enjoyed shooting the movie, the bit he found the toughest was when he actually had to sit in a race car and drive at high speeds.
And once the G forces begin acting on the vehicle, that is when the driver抯 mettle is tested.
For the scenes that required driving at really very high speeds, a duplicate was used for security reasons. But for one scene Saif himself was at the wheels, driving the car at 150 miles per hour.
The experience, Saif says, was very physically demanding.
Firstly, the car was very hot from inside (as it had no doors or windows). Secondly, when the G forces began to act, Saif抯 head hit the panel and 揳ll the instruments were constantly crooked. |

Aamir, Kiran Rao head for splitsville | | Another high-profile Bollywood wedding seems to have gone kaput, with reports of a rift between superstar Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao, surfacing in the media.
Apparently, the 42-year old actor has been living separately from Rao for quite a while now and there are serious differences between the couple, says a popular Bollywood magazine.
The trouble started brewing in paradise over Kiran抯 insistence to pursue her career in film-direction, which Aamir was not in favour of. Incidentally, it was work that had brought the two together, as they met on the sets of the Oscar-nominated flick Lagaan, where Kiran was assistant director to Ashutosh Gowarikar.
The couple tied the knot in December 2005, after Aamir had divorced Reena, his wife of over a decade. The Fanaa star has two children from his first marriage.
The reports however, do not talk of the two planning to split immediately.

Saif and I are not friends off the set

Rani missed out on doing Mira Nair's Namesake.
"I don't regret missing out on The Namesake. But I regret not working with Mira. I loved Jumpa Lahiri's novel and I love the film. Being a Bengali I completely relate to the ambience. So many of my aunts live in the US the way the protagonist does.
But I wasn't convinced about playing the mother of a 25-year old guy. And I said so to Mira. She completely understood my point of view. Also, Karan's film happened at the same time. I apologized to Mira. But I'm so fond of Mira. I love meeting her whenever I'm in New York.
In fact I bumped into her while shooting for Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna. We were once shooting below her house. I'm very fond of her. And I'm sure we'll work together. The Namesake isn't Mira's last film, you know," Rani chortles.
Rani is very happy for Tabu. " Every role has a destiny. And I genuinely think Tabu was suited for the role. She was superb."
Rani's last release Baabul was a bit of a blown-up babble. Tell her that, and she jumps to the film's defence.
"To be very honest my parents wanted me to do Baabul. It's been quite a while since I had done a film on their say-so. And I'm happy that I did. Baabul was a cause every person relates to. See, a film has to touch a core audience. And Baabul did that. We made it with conviction."
Rani completely believes in Tara Rum Pum. "When I read the script I was so ecstatic I called Siddharth and whooped with joy. I completely identified with the script. I thought of my own mother who has handled all of us through every crisis. I've modeled my performance on my mother.
There're little moments in Tara Rum Pum that wrench your guts |

Salman cannot go bald now! | The personal work Salman Khan went for to Dubai was not to keep current girlfriend Katrina Kaif company but his long overdue session of hair weaving that needed to be done following his hair transplant procedure last year!
Salman left for Dubai last week to start the second phase of the hair transplant procedure. Certain steps are taken before and after a the procedure to ensure maximum growth.
Once the first step is over, hair grows naturally and continues to thicken for six to nine months. Hair loss after that will probably occur in untreated areas and one can either use medication to retard the loss or schedule a hair weaving.
Salman underwent hair weaving in Dubai with an American surgeon. Khan returned to Mumbai yesterday, after spending some time under observation in Dubai.

SRK is such a Hot property!

Distribution rights for Shah Rukh Khan抯 films are selling hotter like hot cakes The bid for the distribution rights of his home production, Om Shanti Om, directed by Farah Khan, has touched Rs 55 crore, an unprecedented amount in B-Town.
And this one is a triangular contest between Studio18, Sony and Adlabs, who are doing their best to top this amount. These corporate bodies have approached Shah Rukh for all rights to OSO, including India and overseas distribution along with satellite, audio and home video rights for 10 years.
The amount they are offering him is higher than what Nikhil Advani抯 Salaam-E-Ishq was paid last year. That was a first of its kind deal at Rs 42 crore. The bid has apparently already touched Rs 55 crore. So even if OSO has been made on a budget of Rs 15 crore, Shah Rukh will make a cool profit of Rs 40 crore. It will be interesting to see whether SRK will choose price over credibility or vice versa.
So why is OSO such hot property? Other than Yash Raj (Chopras) and Dharma (Karan Johar), no other production houses has the power or the moolah to sign Shah Rukh Khan, which is why he rarely works with other banners.
But when a corporate entity that can抰 sign Shah Rukh gets a readymade SRK film with everything in place, it抯 like a dream come true. Hence they抮e more than willing to cough up such extravagant amounts. A Shah Rukh Khan film gives them terrific branding and also makes their stock soar. |
