Just to share some pics with WS fans......
In a famous soap opera called "Winter Sonata", some scenes that are significant in the story were shot here in Chuncheon.
Jun-sang and Yoo-jin, main characters of the soapie, were going to high schools in Chuncheon. One day, they promise to see each other on the night of New Year's Eve. The street is decked with Christmas trees and carols can be heard everywhere, and Yoo-jin waits for Jun-sang. But he is nowhere to be seen. Yoo-jin waits for him out in the cold, putting her muffler around her more tightly. Snow falls, and Yoo-jin still waits for him.
In the meantime, Jun-sang, who is on his way to the airport to go to America, stops the car abruptly, gets off the car, and run to the place where Yoo-jin is waiting. He is nearly there, and he crosses a big square where there is a huge, glittering Christmas tree. When he is almost there, he is hit by a car.
The place where Yoo-jin is waiting for Jun-sang, the place where Jun-sang is hit by a car, is Myeong-dong Street in Chuncheon. Myeong-dong is the name for famous fashion-street in Seoul, and this Myeong-dong in Chuncheon looks very much alike the one in Seoul. Myeong-dong is the center of Chuncheon, and there are underground shopping arcade which was built few years ago. This is the center of shopping in Chuncheon, and it is also very famous for Dakgalbi, spicy barbecue chicken. There is Dakgalbi street in Myeongdong, where there are a number of restaurants serving Dakgalbi. |

Bukhangang River stops at Uiamho Lake, flows past Gangchon and Gapyeong, and creates an island located in between Namsan-myeon Chuncheon and Ihwa-ri Gapyeong. Namiseom was on its way out of people's memories, but the soapie called "Winter Sonata" has instilled life into this island. One of the main features of Namiseom is a beautiful row of trees on the side of the road. There are also various types of accommodation available. Fresh, green lawn, little beaten paths in the forest, boat ride, sleighing ground near the river where it is lined with birches, and other scenic places lure young people into the island. Romantic Train, Dokkebi Castle, monorail, a merry-go-round and other rides offer you the chance to have fun. Catch a ferry boat to go to the island, and it will take about 10 minutes.

The ski resort in "Winter Sonata" is the one in Yongpyeong. The resort is located at the foot of Barwangsan Mountain (1,458 m). Average of annual snowfall is 250 cm, and the ski season runs from mid-November until early April. The resort has held Ski World Cup in 1998 and 2000, and Asian Winter Games Gangwon successfully. The resort has 27 ski slopes including Rainbow Slope and a gondola that is 3.7 km long - the longest in Asia. The total area of the resort is 5,200,000 pyeong, and it has many different types of accommodation available such as hotels and condominiums. It also has two golf courses and many other facilities for people to come and enjoy their vacation all year round. |

This is the place where Jun-sang and Yoo-jin, full of tears, see each other again in "Winter Sonata". A pretty house surrounded by both flowers and blue sea is here in Oedo, the Paradise Island.
Oedo once belonged to Hallyeo Haesang National Park. This island is privately owned, and it is about 4 km away from Geojedo Island. It is known that people settled here since Joseon Dynasty. The island has rough cliffs, (80 m) along the beach that run 2.3 km. There was no electricity or no telephones here in this rocky island. This private owner bought the island, and he transformed this place into a big farm, and in 1976, it was designated as a farm for tourists. On April 15, 1995, the owner of the island opened this place (about 47,000 pyeong in area) to the public as Oedo Haesang Farm, which has marine plants.
There are Dinosaur Cave, Dinosaur Rock, and Dinosaur Footsteps at the eastern end of the island, and they are designated as Provincial Cultural Asset of Gyeongsangnam-do. There are many fishing points in the island. There is no accommodation available here, and the island opens from 8:00 until 17:00 (18:00 in summer). You have to take a ferry at Jangseungpo-dong, Gujo-ri Ilun-myeon, Hakdong-ri Dongbu-myeon, Galgot-ri Nambu-myeon, or Wahyeon-ri Ilun-myeon in order to go to Oedo.

In "Winter Sonata", this place is where Yoo-jin and Jun-sang spent their time together for the first time, and is also a place where Jun-sang tried to say goodbye to Yoo-jin. These scenes were shot here at Chuam Beach, located in Bukpyeong-dong Donghae. The sunrise is simply beyond expression: the picture of the fiery red sun rising up into the sky you see on the television when the National Anthem is played, it was shot here in Chuam Beach. The beach is full of photographers trying to get pictures of beautiful sunrise all year round. Sea gulls here do not fear people, and they can be seen at the beach. There is a reason to it.
Villagers dry squids and they throw squids' intestines out on the beach to feed those sea gulls. In "Winter Sonata", there is a scene in which Jun-sang and Yoo-jin run after a flock of sea gulls. It could not have been possible without their patience: the staff threw smelly intestines all over the place to lure those sea gulls. The village has its own smell to it: dried squid and seaweed. In Chuam, you will enjoy the peace and quiet of a little village, with a view of jade-green sea.
p/s: Pantai ni tempat Yujin jumpa duit syiling. Ingat tak lagi masa Junsang bawa Yujin kononnya for their last time together kat pantai ni. Tak sangka tempat yang privacy utk mereka berdua jadi pantai orangramai..... tak boleh nak rasa romantic camgini. |

This is one amusing story about byj....
In KBS抯 TV awards, Yong Jun won the best actor and most popular artiste award. Ji Woo won the best actress award. In the telephone voting contest, he was 40,000 votes ahead of the rest. He thanked all for helping him, especially the director. But all were amused when the compere found a chance to make fun of him as he seldom appears in entertainment programmes. She exclaimed how handsome he was and wanted to fulfill her wish. She demanded that he look into her eyes to say he loved her.

Ji Woo and Yong Jun cared so much for each other. She took care of his makeup while he was always there to cheer for her even though he wasn抰 involved in the scenes. When she couldn抰 get the right emotions, the director would ask where he was and asked the others to bring him there. After filming the last scene on Jiju island , Yong Jun even offered his shoulder to let her sleep on. Many joked that they really looked like lovers even though she addressed him as 慴ig brother |

Another facts to share with you all....
The wooden house scene when both are stranded in the resort wasn抰 shot smoothly. Ji Woo couldn抰 push open the door and took a long time to do it. And to make the blind Jun Xiang discover her, she was supposed to push the table harder but she had no strength. No one could hear any noise at all. The last scene where Yong Jun was supposed to cry nearly drove him crazy because he couldn抰 cry at all. Ji Woo had to accompany him to cry and he felt very apologetic.
KBS had wanted to shoot for 2 more episodes. But Ji Woo and Yong Jun are too popular now. If their job assignments are delayed, their managing company will lose out 4 billion won. Now his price is coming to 13 billion so his company will not let him go. His fans who visit the filming spots when he was there got to enjoy the coffee that he bought for them. How lucky they are! |
