American teenager Villyan Bijev has agreed terms this weekend with Premier League giants Liverpool, according to a report from Californian news channel KMPH Fox 26.
The report claimed that Bijev has signed a three-year contract with a two-year option, and his high school coach and former MLS midfielder Chad McCarty confirmed the information to the television station.
The striker will avoid any work permit issues because he holds Bulgarian citizenship through his father, Chris, who was born in Bulgaria and is now a renowned attorney in Northern California specialising in immigration and nationality issues.
The 18-year-old forward has been a prolific scorer with his club, Cal Odyssey, in the Development Academy for the past three seasons. Last year, he notched over 20 goals as his team finished as runners-up in the Under-16 section. This year, he averaged a goal a game and was voted into the national starting XI at the Under-18 level.
A native of Fresno, Bijev played for the USA's Under-18 team in May at the Lisbon International tournament.
The youngster is understood to have impressed the Liverpool coaching staff while on trial at the Anfield club last week, scoring five goals and contributing two assists in two games for the Reds' Under-18 academy team.
Earlier this year, Bijev declined an invitation to join the USFC SuperElite tour, and instead spent time training in Bulgaria before heading to England for the trial with Liverpool.
With his combination of skill and deft touch, Bijev has been tipped for a bright future either as a forward or in central midfield.

BUENOS AIRES: Penyerang Uruguay, Luis Suarez, yang menjaringkan satu gol untuk kemenangan 3-0 ke atas Paraguay pada final Copa America pagi tadi, dinobatkan sebagai pemain terbaik kejohanan.
Pemain berusia 24 tahun yang juga penyerang Liverpool itu melengkapkan aksi Copa America dengan mejaringkan empat gol.
Pemilihannya dibuat oleh panel terdiri wartawan sukan.

Luis Suarez has spoken of his joy after winning the Copa America with Uruguay and being named player of the tournament.
The Liverpool man scored his fourth goal of the competition to give his country the lead and then set up one of Diego Forlan's two strikes as Paraguay were dispatched 3-0 in Buenos Aires. It is the 15th time Uruguay have been crowned South America champions and afterwards Suarez received the 'Most Valuable Player' accolade. He said: "We have a huge joy to give this title to our people. This is an indescribable feeling. "We played as a group. I think when groups are united like this, everyone together and going for the same thing, you can get things done. "The important thing was getting started well. With two goals in the first half, I think it was very difficult for them to come back. "Luckily, we reached the goal of getting to the final, which was what we wanted, and winning the title is the maximum you can get." |

Liverpool have reportedly beaten Villarreal to the signing of young Spanish striker Nacho, according to reports in Spain. The Reds have been making strides to bolster the strength of their U-18 squad recently, and have reportedly tied up a contract with Mexican striker Marco Bueno before moving to finalise the deal for Nacho.
The Liverpool management have had the chance to watch Nacho in action first hand, as the Spanish youngster is understood to have been one of the trialists on show in the 8-0 win over Stevenage. The goal he scored in that game will have certainly strengthened his case, and local Spanish media is reporting that the Reds tied up a deal for the striker over the weekend.
Liverpool have been adamant that, as well as producing local talent, they want to bring some of the brightest prospects from around the world through the club’s academy. Whether or not Bueno and Nacho are quite of that level remains to be seen, but with the success of players such as John Flanagan and Jack Robinson in the 1st team last season, Liverpool looks once again to be an attractive destination for young talent.
