When I watched the clip Pi and Maki playing basketball, I thought that's interesting how Pi jumps into the interview with the basketball, bcause Maki was telling the interviewer that she likes sports and ...basketball! (but in her hands she was holding a soccer ball at the very beginning of the interview!) Then ...
Pi came with the basketball, you'll think "where's Kame, why Pi?" ^^
it shows that Pi was in the near of Maki and that he knows already that Maki likes to play basketball...
some would say they just play normal sport with each other,
but I would say that's how Pi cares for Maki's interest and remember it well ^^

ANother interview:
Pi and Kame come to the place where Maki sits and Pi makes that strange movements like he wants to wake her up from her deep thinking or just to catch her attention ^^
and thanks to Kame we see on the clip how Kame was clearly sitting far away from Maki and Pi with Maki like sticking to each other ^^
