City target Toure does a U-turn and decides to stay at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has admitted Kolo Toure wanted to leave Arsenal, but said the player would now be staying at the Emirates.

The Ivory Coast defender, a target for Manchester City, will miss the Gunners' FA Cup tie against Plymouth with a groin injury but has withdrawn his transfer request.

Wenger said: 'We spoke about it with him and I think he has changed his mind.

'The situation is that he is a player who has a two-and-ahalf- year contract and will remain with us.'

Toure, 27, has struggled with injuries to his shoulder and calf this season, making just 13 league appearances, and had been linked with a move following a blazing row with defensive partner William Gallas after the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

But Wenger denied there was a rift between the pair, saying: 'There was a minor incident that you can multiply by 20. It happens every day in every club and it is sorted out.

'Kolo is happy here. I think they get on, personally, much better than people think. Nobody can prove fantastic friendship helps you to win football games.'

Wenger also said he did not expect anyone to leave the club during the transfer window.

Thank you, Arsene !

ALEKSANDR Hleb paid tribute to the man who gave him his big break in English football.

The 27-year-old Belarussian was a virtual unknown when he was playing for German side Stuttgart, but Arsene Wenger saw the potential in him.

'Alex convinced me in pre-season that he will be a great player for Arsenal,' said Wenger after signing Hleb in 2005.

'He has great power going forward as well as pace and determination.'

If the British press is to be believed, Hleb fell out with Wenger before his move to Barcelona in the off-season.

'My view of how I should be playing didn't coincide with the manager's,' Hleb was quoted as saying.

'I raised the subject of leaving with Wenger twice before the end of the season.

'I think he was quite upset about it. But ask him. It may turn out he's happy to see me go.

'I don't know where I'll be next season, but I'd prefer Barcelona. It is being negotiated and, hopefully, will be decided soon.'

But Hleb said that his comments were blown out of proportion.

'I have no problems with Arsene Wenger,' he told The New Paper.

'In fact, I'll always be grateful to Wenger for bringing me to Arsenal.

Special

'I still remember I was playing for Stuttgart when Wenger called me one day and said to me, 'Alex, I want you'.

'It was like a dream come true. That is why I want to thank Wenger.

'Wenger always believes in young players. I have learnt a lot from him.

'What's so special about him is that he seems to know what you're thinking about.

'He understands everything about you. That's the most special thing about him.'

Arsene Wenger rules out Real Madrid move

Arsene Wenger has ruled out any chance of leaving Arsenal to join Real Madrid in the summer.

The Frenchman has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Spanish giants.

But a close friend of Wenger said last night: "There is absolutely no way that Arsene Wenger would ever consider leaving to join Real Madrid now or any time in the future.

"He's happy and committed to Arsenal and there is no way on this earth he could work under the restraints that coaches face at Madrid.

"If Arsene wants to sign a player at Arsenal it's a result of his own recommendation or one of his trusted coaches. And there is no way he could work for a club that tells a coach who they can and cannot buy.

"Besides what coach has ever had long term security at Real Madrid? They seem to chop and change managers for the sake of change."

Moyes Confirms Arteta Is Not Joining Arsenal

Recent Speculation in the British media has seen the likes of Mikel Arteta and Joleon Lescott linked with moves away from Goodison Park this January.

The pair were just two of the numerous names touted with switches to Manchester City, before the Spaniard was named as a replacement for the injured Cesc Fabregas at the Emirates Stadium.

Everton are considerably short in attack due to injuries, but while manager David Moyes admits he would like to bring in reinforcements, he is confident he will not be selling his best players to fund any deals.

"I definitely wouldn't consider selling to buy," he is quoted as saying in the British tabloid the Sun.

"I have no intention of doing that. There's nobody I want to sell. I'm happy with what I have got, though we'll try to get a loan player or two."

FA Cup: Arsenal too strong for plucky Plymouth Argyle

Arsenal (0) 3 Plymouth Argyle (0) 1

Head man: Robin van Persie (second left)) battles in the air with Argyle's Marcel Seip (left) and Krisztian Timar

Persie       : uuuuuuu...ngantuk la plak..
Benchner : aik...bola kat sana..aku lompat kat sini ..
Sagna      : wuyoooo..macam kacak jer lompat sambil tido..kena tiru ni..

It would be easy to patronise Plymouth and say the Championship side gave a brave account of themselves but in truth this was a classic case of superior skill triumphing over commitment and determination. For the most part, at least.
Take nothing away from Argyle whose devoted 9,000-strong green and white army
