AirAsia to charge passengers who check in at its counters
PETALING JAYA: AirAsia would start charging its passengers who check in at its counters within the next three months.
Web check-in is free but we will start charging counter check-ins within the next three months. We want to drive everyone to the website, Fernandes said In a teleconference on Thursday.
He did not disclose further details.
yesterday, AirAsia group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes said it was the carrier's best-ever quarter and he was confident of an even better fourth quarterwithout disclosing further details.
Meanwhile, low-cost carrier AirAsia's net profit surged 151.6% to RM327.3mil for the quarter ended Sept 30, against RM130.1mil a year earlier, on the back of strong growth in passenger volumes, ancillary income and higher average fares.
Revenue for the third quarter was 33.5% higher at RM987.5mil from RM739.7mil previously. It reported earnings per share of 11.90 sen versus 5.3 sen a year ago. For the nine months ended Sept 30, AirAsia posted a net profit of RM750.3mil on revenue of RM2.8bil.
The revenue growth was supported by a 12% rise in passenger volumes and average fare that was 22% higher at RM173 compared with RM142 a year ago.
Fernandes said it was the carrier's best-ever quarter and he was confident of an even better fourth quarter.
His optimism was based on the strong demand and forward booking. He said AirAsia would continue its focus on lowering costs, improving returns and expanding its network.
During the quarter, the group carried a total 6.48 million passengers while the load factor increased to 78% from 75% a year earlier.
AirAsia's core operating profit was RM216.1mil, a whopping 539% increase over the RM33.8mil achieved a year ago.
Its core operating profit margin was at 21.9%, 17.3 percentage points higher than the 4.6% achieved previously.
AirAsia said it had RM142.9mil of unrealised translation gains in the quarter owing to the significant strengthening of the ringgit against the US dollar. The gains were partially offset by losses from the change in the fair value of currency derivatives.
Fernandes said the carrier's cost per available seat kilometre stood at 3.62 US cents quarter-on-quarter but increased year-on-year due to the rise in the average fuel price.
Commenting on the ancillary growth, he said he expected the spending per pax would reach RM50 per person soon from RM44 now.
He said the group would continue to identify ancillary income opportunities. The budget carrier would start charging its passengers who check in at its counters within the next three months.
On fuel hedge, he said the group had hedged 33% of its requirement for the rest of the year at US$83.38 per barrel, and aimed to place more hedges for 2011. It added that the current market price was averaging US$97 a barrel.
Asked for his opinion on the fuel price next year, he said: If I know that I would not be in this business We have budgeted fuel price to be at US$95 a barrel.
Fernandes said the group would make a decision within three weeks to finalise the deployment of the number of planes for 2012.
We have revised the number a bit. We are looking at 12 to 16 planes, he said.

kalau bawa makanan yang tak berbau kuat ok je kot. kesiankan kalau 1 keluarga ramai. Teruk nak membayar jajan. faham-faham je lah, nama pun flight tambang murah.
kalau saya yang suka mengunyah ni pun, dah plan nak bawa macam-macam jajan. tak kuasa nak beli KiIt Kat atau Oreo yang harga ntah apa-apa kat dalam flight tu.
Rasanya nak selamat, apa yang AA jual yang tu patut dibawa. |

Yup, kena check-in awal utk dpt seat sebelah menyebelah (tertakluk kepada kekosongan seta). Tp Ct tu nak beli 2 seat sekali gus, dan guna 1 nama dia je. Kira seat sebelah tu dia reserve utk diri dia sendiri. |
