Juanma slams Villa


Deportivo la Coruna defender Juanma has slammed Valencia striker David Villa for "bad sportsmanship" in the Galicians' 4-0 defeat on Sunday night.

Villa went to ground in the 36th minute under a challenge from the former Racing Santander man, despite minimal contact, and referee Carlos Delgado Ferreiro duly awarded Valencia a penalty, while showing the centre back his second yellow card.

"What he did was bad sportsmanship," Juanma told Marca, adding that players should be "more honourable."

Villa denied all accusations of diving, insisting he jumped "in order to avoid Juanma's challenge, and not to win a penalty."

The win took Los Che up to ninth in the table, 12 points behind leaders Barcelona.

Zaragoza v Valencia (22:00)

Valencia's injury-crisis shows no sign of letting up with keeper Santiago Canizares now a doubt for Saturday's trip to Zaragoza.

Zaragoza defenders Luis Carlos Cuartero and Agustin Aranzabal are unlikely to play while Gerard Pique, signed on loan from Manchester United, is doubtful after being sidelined from training with a fever in midweek.

Juanfran, however, has recovered from muscle problems and is available for the season's surprise package.

Valencia are in the midst of an injury crisis with Fernando Morientes, David Albelda, Asier Del Horno, Carlos Marchena, Edu, Francesco Tavano, Jorge Lopez, Jaime Gavilan, Mario Regueiro and Emiliano Moretti amongst those on the treatment table. Goalkeeper Santiago Canizares is also a doubt with a muscle strain.

Italy four keen on Tavano


Valencia president Juan Soler has confirmed to the press that four Italian clubs have made bids to sign Francesco Tavano in January. Soler said: "the club are not under pressure in this matter.

Tavano joined Valencia in the summer but has seen his first-team chances limited and is keen to move.

"At the moment we are studying the best offers for Valencia and then we will make a decision," Soler added.

Roma and Palermo are believed to be bidding sides, while there are also rumours linking Tavano to two Spanish clubs - Deportivo La Coruna and Racing Santander.

However, the former Empoli forward is believed to prefer a return to his native Italy.
