1.2 Billion Won in one month by contracting with BYJ

Hahnshin, Inc. (037120) announced on the 27th that they had recorded sales worth of 1.2 billion Won in a month since they contracted with entertainer BYJ.
The Hahnshin had launched the full-scale business in entertainment by making an exclusive contract with BYJ on the late 10/21/03. Since then, they sucessively made commercial modeling contract with Taster's Choice (coffee), and O&N (clothing), etc.

Mr. Kim Jongwook, an entertainment section chief, told that "We anticipate sales over 5 billion Won in next year by CF & movie appearance by Mr. Bae."

In addition to accepting more actors in the class of star, the Hahnshin inc. will aggressively pursue entertainment business including production of the dramas and movies and internet mobile business utilizing its actors.
Through these all, their plan is to increase the portion of entertainment business to over 50 % by 2005.

On the 30th of the las month, when BYJ appeared as the curtain behind the stage was pulled up in the Gayageum Hall at the Seoul Sheraton Grand Walker Hill, over 1000 fans who crowded the Hall shouted oout with joy all at the same time. BYJ in black suits and stripe pants made a face full of bright smile. The camera flashes here and there in the audience seats.

Actor BYJ had a meeting with over 1000 Japanese fans. On the 28th of the last month, over 1000 BYJ fans entered Korea through Inchon International Airport. Visiting Korea through the largest Japanese tour company, JTB, expecting the release of 'Hotelier' DVD in Japan, after they toured the shooting sites of the drama 'Winter Love Song' in Yongpyeong and Chooncheon in Kangwon Do, they met BYJ in the Sheraton Grand Walker Hill Hotel, shooting ground of the 'Hotelier.'

It was a place one could actually realize the extent of BYJ's popularity in Japan. As soon as BYJ appeared on the stage, the screams of joy from the fans bursted, and the camera continuously flashed. There were fans who cried out loud here and there, ahd there heard the phrase of 'BYJ JJang* (*Number one).

As BYJ finished a simple greeting and it was time for questions, various questions were continuously poured out. As soon as the master of the ceremony asked "if there is anything you are curious about BYJ", a fan had asked, "Are you a style of getting attracted to a woman at the first sight?" BYJ answered, "No. I am a style to watch for a long time." He told, "I am a type of gradually gettiing absorbed to her charm."

And for the question of "Would you feel the shaking of your mind if you met your first love?", BYJ resolutely said "No", and answered that "the present is more important and I will keep the memory of my first love preciously in my heart."

When a fan asked, "What was the difficult thing while you were shootiing the movie 'Scandal'", BYJ answered, "The acting sarcastic but humorous dual character was hard," and "however, I became aware that I have such appearance inside of me and I was able to act comfortably thereafter."

The enthusiasm of the Japanese fans were almost maniacal. A woman, called 'Yoshida'　abruptly screamed, "Mr. BYJ, Marry me please."  Ane there was a fan who spoke clearly in Korean, "I do not know if this is a dream or real life as I actually got to meet you."

BYJ with his own characteristic unceremonious and frank answers charmed the fans who came across the Korean Straight. To a fan's question, "What do you wear on ordinary days?", BYJ answered that "When I go out, I wear easy and comfortable clothes." Also that fan said that "I want to see your look off glasses'" BYJ showed without hesitation his glassless face on the spot.

There BYJ frankly confessed his 'desire.' He told that "there may come a day when he will hear the word of 'Movie director BYJ' in the future" and " I am preparing for it step by step."

By the way, although it was planned that BYJ would take suvenir photos with group of 50 fans each, he showed his sincerity of shaking hands with each individual fan over 3 hours as he was moved by their enthusiasm.

You've acted 2 characters of Joonsahng ahd Minhyung. Was there any difficulty?

Actinb Joonsahng, acting Minhyeong, and again, it was more difficult to act Minhyeong who recovered the memory of Joonsahng.

Q: Yoojin's mind was shaken after meeting the old love. What BYJ would do if she were you?
A: It is not that....This moment, the present is important..However, It feels like that the memory of the first love is very precious.

Q: What would you say as the WLS made a big hit in Japan?
A: I really appreciate it and I am sorry that I made this many of you to this far, even though I had to go to visit you myself.
   I will keep your hearts throughout my life and try to visit Japan in next year.

Q: What do you think about your moivie debut?
A: The thing of first always make my heart tremble and it is going to me a memory which I could never forget throughout my life.

Q: The character is from Chosun Period. What was the difficulty?
A :Jo WOn's character is speaking for the Peiod..I had to express it sarcastically and humerously, Although I worried if such character would be out..As such character came out gradually, I felt comfortable to act.

Q : What is the closest character you are like among characters of Donghyeok, Minhyeong, and Jo Won?
A: It feel like that my character is a mixture of Joonsahng and Minhyeong...As all the character were present inside of me, I was able to express them.,br>
Q: Which character among the leading actresses in those pieces of works would be your ideal type of woman?
A: You are talking about the CHARACTER? (He made it sure of the question)...Lady Sook...You are asking a character, aren't you?..(He again made it sure).

As the person who presented the question spoke clearly again that it was a character, not an actress...All clapped hands. And then the person jokingly said again, Aren't these clapping for getting reassured?..

Q: What is your next work?
A: Although I had not decided on it yet, I am all prepared to start working right away, even tomorrow when the decision is made and I would like to try various attempts good enough for you to expect about them.

Q: When you direct movie in the future, which side would you like to do, artistic side or entertaining side?
A: I think that I I should not biased to any one side and I want to do a movie which gives warm heart regardless of its Genre.

Q: I know that there will be a movie made by network of Asian, conscious of Hollywood, what kind of role you do want to take in that movie? (A reporter from Tokyo Newpaper had made a long question, which I had summarized.)
A: I want to act for the advance of Asian movies and then, later on, I want to make a good movie as I study hard and put efforts.

The sculptures of topstars BYJ (30) & CJW (28) will be set up on the major shooting sites of the 'WLS' which was broadcast on K2TV.

Recently the Tourism Marketing Department of the Environment-Tourism-Culture Bureau of the Providential Office of the Kangwon Do had sent to agencies of BYJ and CJW an official letter with the topic of "Request for cooperation in relation to the portrait right to publicize the shooting sites of WLS to foreign market.'

On that official letter, the Kangwon Provincial Office revealed, "We are developing tourism marketing utilizing 'WL" which had sensational popularity as it was broadcast on an NHK satellite station and as one of the marketing, we are planning to produce the publicity catalogues of 'WLS' and distribute them to toursin related agencies in Japan, we beg your cooperation including the use of portrait right," and wrote "We are planning to set up sculptures of BYJ & CJW in the major shooting sites of the 'WLS', such as Myeongdong in Chooncheon, Joongdo Namyi Island, Yongpyeong Resorts, and Donghae Chooam Seashore, etc."


The effective period for the use of the portrait right is from 1/1/04 to 12/31/05.

In regard to this, the agencies of BYJ & CJW told, "We do not have any particular reason to object to this. However, we will make final decision regardiing the use of the sculpture after we see their proposed plan."

An officer of the Kangwon Provincial Office told, "Thanks to 'WLS', Kangwon Do is rapidly emerging as the 'Number one place of the Korean tourism' Although there are various opinions, among those, there are a plan to set up sculptures of BYJ & CJW on the Joong Island in Chooncheon. Along with that, we are going over a plan to operate the exclusive airline flight between Korea and Japan in Yangyang International Airport."

According to the Kangwon Do, since the 'WLS' was broadcast in Japan, the number of Japanese tourist who came to visit the Namyi Island and Yongpyeong Ski Resorts has exceeded 10,000. This is the statistic until the end of the last month. The 'WLS' (Japanese title Winter Sonata) which was introduced on an NHK satellite station in the early April this year, is scheduled to be rerun in the middle of this month and broadcast on the NHK ground-wave station thanks to its reception of explosive responses.

The reason for the Japanese women's attraction to him is not clearly because os his outer appearance only. The success of the 'Scandal-The Love Story of Men & Women in Chosun' is not based on his good-looking outer appearance but on his acting ability which he had cultivated for a long time.
There is a life that public asks for in the status of the stars. Stars relentlessly put efforts to be faithful to that. On the 29th of the last month, the Sheraton Grand Walker Hill was crowded with fans who have gathered from all the region in Japan in ordeer to see BYJ. That event, which was for both the Hotelier tour (Inc.) IMX was in charge of and publicity for the advance of the the "Scandal-The Love Story of Men & Women in Chosun' to Japan, raised its curtain as the phrase of the "Welcome to the Hotelier tour" on the big-scale poster of BYJ on the outer wall of the Hotel replaced for the greetings to the fans.

The women fans who had flown in from Japan moved on the language of their own from the beginning to the end of the event even though star BYJ, whom they have so much longed to see, was just in front of them. After the event was over, in the place for BYJ to shake hands with fans, there sense of orderliness was truly amazing and BYJ responded everyone by shaking hands with and the giving autograph to each individual. It was a scene which was evidently contrasted with the other fanclub events which was like a bersherk fury.

In the movie 'Scandal', he turned over, in one stroke, the benevolence and the thoughtfulness that had been shown in his previous dramas. Having mastered the role of 'Casanova' Jo Won naturally, he of the present time led the place for the fans, showing the proficient aspect as if he was a manager of a Hotel with his undistracted smart and open-hearted behavior and answering to the questions from fans.

Stars who put efforts to enter upon the world. In the Korean entertainment field where the habit of getting tired of at the same moment they (stars) the boom has been customary in the small land, the entertainers had to put up with the appearance of the big stars in the past would be buried dead in a moment. However, if they could exert their star-character dealing with the world as they go beyond Korea, the risk of beiing buried dead would lessen. We expect his acative role in narrowinig the gap between Korea and Japan where there is a sharp conflict to be opened up or not.
