Drug lab found in upmarket Ampang bungalow, 12 arrested
BY HARIZ MOHD - 13 AUGUST 2016 @ 6:20
AMPANG: Federal police anti-narcotics officers today busted a drug lab in Taman Ampang Utama, here and seized over 15 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The morning raid was part of a special operation carried out by the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) and federal police Narcotics Department.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police also found a Glock semi-automatic pistol during the raid, and arrested a total of 12 suspects including six Indian nationals in the operation.
"Congratulations Sting @PDRMsia for busting a drug lab in Ampang. Arrested 12 people (6 Indian nationals) seized 15kg syabu and a Glock pistol. #GoPDRMGo," he tweeted via his account @KBAB51.
It is learnt that eight of the suspects were nabbed in a series of raids, which led police to the lab inside an upmarket bungalow in Jalan 3 Ampang Utama and the capture of four other suspects there.
However, further details over the arrests and items seized during the raids have yet to be revealed. The NST was informed that a press conference will be held by federal police Narcotics Department director soon. City Fire and Rescue Department (KLFD), whose Hazardous Material team was called in to assist police in checking the bungalow this afternoon, said they found chemicals including iodine, toulene, epidurel, hidrochloric acid, red phosphorus and aceton during the inspection.
KLFD operation centre chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said they received a call from police requesting for assistance at 12.34pm, and dispatched a team of nine firemen from KLCC Hazmat Fire Station to the bungalow.
"The team was asked by police officers on scene to conduct checks on the lab and its surrounding area as a safety precaution. "Following a thorough check, the area was declared safe for police investigators to carry out their investigations," he said.
