History of TVfXQ
During one of the lowest points in Korean music history, five young faces emerged on the day of a Britney and BoA* joint concert in December of 2003. No one knew of these five boys, but they left a lasting impression on the enthusiasts of Korean Pop and were immediately brought into the limelight, making them bigger than anyone would have ever imagined.
The first member to join the group was a timid boy named Kim JunSu 김준수. He was brought into SM Entertainment through a television seeking new talent for a band. At the tender age of 12, JunSu began training, and continued to train for six more years before debuting under the name Xiah JunSu.
Jung YunHo 정윤호 came second, earning his spot in the company by winning first place at a dance audition. YunHo was first introduced to the entertainment world as back dancer and rapper for DANA, a senior singer of SM. Eventually, YunHo was placed in what was considered a dream team; he became U-Know YunHo.
Not long after YunHo came Kim JaeJoong 김재중, who left his small hometown in order to achieve a lifelong dream. Upon arriving in Seoul, JaeJoong auditioned at one of SM Entertainment抯 weekly auditions and passed with flying colors. From there on, he trained for approximately four years with SM, debuting under a name a fortune teller had predicted a few years earlier: YoungWoong JaeJoong.
Like JaeJoong before him, Shim ChangMin 심창민 took first place at a singing audition. Although young, he possessed strong vocals that the judges saw much potential in. As the youngest, ChangMin showed a determination and respect that his fellow band mates never failed to speak well of. ChangMin put his all into everything he did, earning his stage name of ChoiKang ChangMin.
Last but certainly not least, the English-speaking Park YooChun 박유천 was added to the group barely six months before the band抯 official debut. Recruited through Brother抯 Ent. from Virginia (America), YooChun dealt with the separation from his family with the everlastingly bright smile that has always remained on his face. His cheerful smile embodies the spirit of the group; Micky YooChun, how could anyone refuse?
And so on the cold night of Dec. 26, 2003, the world was introduced to a group called DongBangShinKi 동방신기 (TongVfangXienQi/東方神起), meaning 揋ods Rising from the East. |
