Proton to collaborate with SAIPA of Iran

Proton Holdings Bhd has teamed up with SAIPA Co of Iran to explore the possibility of collaborating in areas of engine manufacturing, model development and research and development (R&D) activities. Its chairman, Datuk Mohammed Azlan Hashim, said the agreement will pave the way for Proton to capitalise on its R&D capabilities and technogical advancements.
He said the national car manufacturer in the past one year has entered into several strategic collaborations to enhance its export of cars.
Proton today signed a strategic collaborative agreement with SAIPA in conjunction with the launch of its third millionth car by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, here.
The agreement was signed by Proton managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir while SAIPA was represented by its president, Mehrdad Bazrpash. The event was witnessed by Abdullah and International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
SAIPA, which was established in 1966, is one of the two main automobile manufacturers in Iran and has four assembly plants, 47 subsidiary companies, as well as alliances with Citroen, Renault and Kia.
To date, Proton has invested over RM3.3 billion in its R&D activities, Mohammed Azlan said in his speech here today.
According to him, its R&D facility at the Shah Alam factory was one of the few international standard automotive facilities with its own virtual reality laboratory.

Iran carmaker active in 7 countries

Iran Khodro Group (IKCO) manufactures various vehicle models in seven countries across the globe, reports managing director of the company. The production capacity of these plants is a total 225,000 vehicles per year, said Manouchehr Manteqi at the inauguration ceremony of the country's largest international auto exhibition in Mashhad. Manteqi said the value of IKCO's automobile exports last year was $500 million. Products were exported to a number of countries including France, Russia and Syria. Currently 166 IKCO after-sales offices operate in various countries.
IKCO has produced three million vehicles in the past six years alone, which is equivalent to its total production over the previous 36 years. The company currently produces 10 vehicles under 54 brand names. The automotive industry in Iran is the second largest after pharmaceuticals, he added.
IKCO is the largest carmaker in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa.

IKCO to unveil three new sedans by March ’09

Iran’s giant automaker Iran Khodro plans to unveil three new sedans by March 2009. Two of the sedans are the advanced models of the Peugeot Pars and ROA, and the other one is a new model of the Samand sedan Sarir. Iran Khodro Diesel, a subsidiary of the Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), exported 900 billion rials ($94 million) worth of products in the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2008) to eight countries, the IKCO Diesel deputy director for marketing and sales affairs said at a press conference in Mashhad on Saturday.
On the sidelines of the Eighth Motor Show in Mashhad, Masud Bahrami said that Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Syria, Belarus, and the Ivory Coast were the target markets for the IKCO’s products.
Iran Khodro is the largest automotive producer in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa regions, with an annual production of around 1,000,000 various vehicles including cars (550,000 unit), buses, trucks and pick-ups. This figure also places it as the 20th biggest automotive producer globally. Iran Khodro produces Iran’s first national car, the Samand, which is based on the Peugeot 405 platform. The firm has a long-term relationship with PSA Peugeot Citroën, and assembles a number of Peugeot models under licence from the French firm. It also makes trucks and buses under license from Mercedes-Benz.

IKCO to be 4th largest Asian automaker

Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) will soon become the fourth largest Asian auto manufacturing firm if the current production trend continues. Currently auto manufacturers from Japan, South Korea, China and India are the top auto manufacturers in Asia.
IKCO has produced three million vehicles in the past six years alone, which is equivalent to its total production over the previous 36 years, said Manuchehr Manteqi while referring to the 42 years production of the company. IKCO plans to increase its production to one million vehicles in a year by January of 2009 out of which 800,000 will be produced at the domestic plants and the remaining 200,000 vehicles will be produced at sites outside of Iran.
IKCO had produced around 100,000 vehicles in the last 10 years while that level of output was raised to 600,000 vehicles last year, he added. The company currently produces 10 vehicles under 52 brand names. Iran Khodro Group also manufactures various vehicle models in seven countries across the glob.
About 70-90 percent of the parts of vehicles manufactured at the company are internally produced, Manteqi noted. IKCO used to design vehicle parts based on obtained licenses but currently the company's own engineers design the parts. Manteqi also said the company is capable to design and manufacture assembly lines at any automation level in any part of the world.
IKCO owns a brand name with an estimated value of $400 billion which added to the company's assets. New products of IKCO such as the youth Samand, auto wheelchair Samand, second generation of natural gas-powered Roa, R90 (7-seat van) and new dual-fuel Peugeot sedan 470 were inaugurated in he country's largest international auto exhibition in Mashhad and will soon hit the market.

Manouchehr Manteghi, the group managing director, talking in a ceremony to introduce and unveil the sedan, said the automaker has used the youth's views for designing and making the new Samand, predicting that the car will hit the market by next year.
According to him, the engineers of New Products Design and Development Center of Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) have designed and produced the new model of Samand that received a high welcome on the opening day of the 8th Mashhad International Auto Show.
Pointing to main specifications of Samand Javanan, Manteqi said the car has a 130 horsepower engine, consumes five percent less fuel compared to normal Samands, and is equipped with antilock braking system (ABS), suspension system, sports seats, new running board, leather trim, professional audio system, new shock absorbers, and other systems. Algeria, through cooperation with Iran Khodro Company, is seeking the transfer of Iranian expertise in the production of heavy-duty vehicles.
Visiting the Middle East's largest auto-making plant in Tehran on Saturday, Algerian Minister of Industry and Promotion of Investments Abdelhamid Temmar lauded the company's advancements in the field of vehicle manufacturing.
He stated that Iran Khodro employs state-of-the-art technology in production of products and the quality is the equal of their rivals.

Proton GEN2 to be assembled in Iran
An agreement has been inked between Proton and Iranian distributor Zagross Khodro for the supply of automotive parts to Iran which will allow Zagross Khodro to assemble CKD kits of the Proton GEN2 in Iran. Assembling the Proton GEN2 locally in Iran will enable more competitive pricing.
The first locally assembled Proton GEN2s are expected to roll off Iranian assembly lines in April 2009 from Zagross Khodro assembly plant in Borujerd city, southwest of Iran. The two companies have previously inked two other agreements on licensing, technical assistance and equipment purchase.
Proton and Zagross Khodro CKD partnership goes back to the early 2000s where the latter assembled and sold the Proton Wira in Iran. It previously sold fully imported Proton cars in the Iranian market. Zagross Khodro was established in 1996 and claims to be Irans largest private automotive company.

Diar Khodro Iran
Diar Automobile Company is an automobile company based in Tehran, Iran. Established in 1999, the company manufacturers SUVs and pick-ups under license from China's Changcheng, also known as Great Wall Motors.
History:
Sazehaye Khodro Diar Manufacturing Co. was established in 2000 for the production of vehicle body pressed parts through investment made by private sector. By installation and setting up 6 units of 500 to 2000 tons hydraulic and Heavy Stroke Presses in January 2003, the Company managed to obtain the Exploitation License for body pressed parts.
In line with its developmental plans and recognizing vacant market capacity for pick-up and SUV in the country and in the region, this Company studied the feasibility to co-operate with a few world large vehicle manufacturing Companies to produce these products in Iran. The result of study and negociations with the candidate Companies, led to the selection and conclusion of an agreement with Great Wall Motor of China. GWM Co. is the largest pick-up manufacturing Co. in China.
Following the agreement made with GWM Co. and having obtained the Establishment License for the production of 50,000 units of single and double cabin pick-ups as well as SUVs in 2004, the construction of a 50,000m2 plant in an area of 140,000m2 in Golpaigan township of Esfahan Province has been started. Obtaining the Exploitation License and necessary permits from the Ministry of Industry and Mines, the Standard Bureau, the Environment Protection Organisation and other related organizations, Setad-e-Tabsareh 13 (13th. Note Headquarter) for instance, presently, as the first phase, through setting up of Final Painting Lines, assembling and testing of vehicle and by making use of CKD parts and partly procurement from local sources, has started the production and delivery of Deer single cabin pick-ups.

There are two industrial zone in Golpayegan. One of them is SAIPA industrial zone where Diar factory is located there.
Diar Factory is the bigest one (from lands point of view) and will be the biggest one after totally flotation.

Iran unveils worlds most powerful natural-gas-based engine
TEHRAN - The worlds most powerful natural-gas-based car engine was unveiled on Saturday by the Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro under the intellectual property of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to IRINN, the engine is to be installed on Iran Khodros newest product Samand Soren ELX.
Iran Khodro CEO Manouchehr Manteqi said that all the design and development stages of the engine have been conducted in the companys research center.
The engine is turbocharge type, with 150hp of power and has passed EuroIV standard requirements, he said.
Its nominal power will not decline even at the height of 2,000 meters above sea level, Manteqi noted.
Samand Soren ELX is an elegant and highly safe sedan which is outfitted with air bags for front-seat passengers, security belts, a telescopic steering wheel, and other safety equipment

Soren Heart beats with Iranian Turbocharger Engine
The second Iranian engine was unveiled in the presence of industrial and governmental officials, Senegalese ambassador and IKCO managers.The powerful 1700cc turbocharger engine is made and installed on Soren ELX, a newly unveiled product of Iran Khodro.
This engine - the worlds most powerful CNG-base engine -is named 1700cc turbocharger which successfully met the environmental standard of Euro IV.
The 150hp turbocharger engine is designed and produced by Iran Khodro experts and is the first Iranian made car with no power decline when driven up in the 2000 meter heights.
The power and torque of the engine installed on Soren ELX is even when running on either gas or CNG. Its noteworthy that 1700cc turbocharger CNG- base engine meets Euro IV which allows this engine to enter European markets. |
