Covid-19: Inter-state, inter-district travel allowed in green zones, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: Those residing in green zone states and districts will be allowed to travel for holidays from Sunday (Nov 22) to help boost the tourism industry, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the National Security Council (NSC) special meeting heard a proposal tabled by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry on a green travel bubble to help domestic tourism, which has been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have agreed to allow this, but this is only for those living in green states or districts and the destination must also be in the green zones, ” he said on Friday (Nov 20).
He cited an example where those from Kuantan, which is a green zone, can go for a holiday in Taman Negara in Kuala Tahan, which is also a green zone.
Those from Pahang who want to go to Johor, which is now a green zone, but need to pass through Negri Sembilan need to get police permission to pass through the red zone.
To a question, Ismail Sabri said there is no question about those from green zones using the green travel bubble to actually travel to red zones.
“They will be stopped at roadblocks and will need to show a permission letter to state their destination. If they do not have one, then they may be slapped with a compound or be asked to turn back, ” he said.
