Our Japanese Female Fans are Stylish and Cute

—- Firstly, “music = enjoy the sound”. 2NE1 is not only about music but have a tremendous influence on fashion and continue being the influential forefront of this all but in your own opinions, where do you think lies 2NE1’s originality?
[CL] For me, it’s just like that. I don’t just pretentiously display myself but be honest. I think our originality lies in how we show everyone our true to life appearance.

—- With such an honest and pure appearance, you receive much support from many female fans as they call out “you’re so cool!”, don’t you?
[CL] I’m very happy about that. But, our Japanese female fans are stylish and cute and each have their own individual style so we get inspiration from them too.

—- Please tell us your fashion point for today?
[CL] Punk style!
[DARA] My hair style.

—- Definitely. By the way, how long does it take for your hair to set?
[DARA] 30 minutes.

—- It’s faster than expected.
[DARA] I’ve done this many times so the time it takes to do this has gradually gotten shorter.
[MINZY] As for me, it’s my riders (leather) jacket with many studs.

—- BOM, isn’t the chain you’re wearing heavy?
[BOM] It’s actually a combination of plastic and rubber so it isn’t that heavy.

— I’m relieved to hear that.
[BOM] Also, the punk band T-shirt with patchwork and pins attached is also my fashion point.

_________________________________________________

We’re Looking Forward to Being Able to Meet 70,000 Fans!

—- By the way, please tell us the fashion item required for this winter/autumn.
[CL] Going beyond autumn and onto winter, my attention is set on fur.

—- Fur would be quite gorgeous. Are there any important points when wearing fur?
[CL] Simply put, fur will give you a very strong presence so it’s best to keep other items simple. Rather than trying to match clothes, I think it’s best to keep warm in winter (laugh).

—- Now, lastly, a message to the Japanese fans who are reading this.
[DARA] This tour, I can meet 70,000 fans so I’m really looking forward to it!
[BOM] It’s already obvious from the CDs but when you see us as 2NE1 live, I think you’ll understand us at once.
[CL] From now on, we’ll be showing you the best form of all our aspects!
[MINZY] Everyone, please look forward to this! With much determination, we will try out best in Japan too!

rejoice! these girls are just AWESOME weeiihhh!!!!

2NE1 nabs 1st place in the Oricon weekly ranking with their debut work,
becoming the 3rd international artist/group to do so

Korean girl group 2NE1’s Japan debut mini album “NOLZA” took 1st place in the 10/3 Oricon weekly album ranking. 2NE1 is the 3rd international artist/group to debut at 1st place, following t.A.T.u.’s “t.A.T.u.” in March 2003 and Jang Geun Suk’s “Let Me Cry” in April, 2011. 2NE1, of course, is the first to achieve the brilliant feat of debuting at no.1 for female Korean artists.

As a side note, the 1st no.1 for KARA, also successful as a Korean girl group, was the single “Jet Coaster Love” (released 4/6/2011). SNSD’s 1st no.1 was the album “Girls’ Generation” (released 6/1/2011), and both were the 5th work of each group since debuting in Japan. In terms of the number of days, KARA’s was on 8/11/2011, the 244th day from their Japan debut, and SNSD’s was on 9/8/2010, the 272nd day from their Japan debut. On the other hand, for 2NE1, they took 1st place in just “6 days” since their Japan debut.

The Japan debut mini album “NOLZA” is the first work to be released from YGEX, the new label established by the biggest Korean music production YG Entertainment and avex entertainment. It includes 5 songs that were a hit in Korea, such as “I Am The Best,” the bold electro number that brings forth 2NE1’s unique appeal, “Ugly,” with a catchy melody, and others sang in Japanese.

“I’m too happy and it hasn’t registered yet. With this mini album, we’re showing “the present 2NE1,” so we’ll work hard to show a new form again in our next release. I’d like more and more people in Japan to get to know 2NE1. Thank you.” – CL

“I can’t believe it! But this is the real starting point, so I want to bring even better performances and music and have a good time with everyone. I would be happy if people will continue to have an interest in 2NE1 and support us.” – Dara

“It was unexpected, so I’m very happy. I’m grateful to all those who have supported us. Our activities in Japan have just started, so I think we’ll have more to show in the future than what we’ve already shown. No matter if you’re happy, sad, or having fun, be with 2NE1’s music!!” – Bom

“I think it’s thanks to the many people who loved us and took an interest in us. We’re going to work really hard, and I’d like for everyone to know more and more about 2NE1’s appeal. Please continue to support us.” – Minzy

2NE1 plans to release their next single on 11/16. This single will include the Japanese version of the group’s biggest hit “Go Away,” which was also used as the theme song for Fuji TV’s “Mezanyu~."

Meet the fiercest ladies of K-pop. Korean girl group 2NE1 (pronounced “to anyone” or “twenty-one”) is something much more substantial than just pretty faces and well-toned bodies: from their edgy style and fashion to their confidence-oozing stage presence and charisma, these girls are a force in today’s K-pop scene.

With songs that range from hip-hop and R&B to reggae and rock, highlighting each member’s unique strengths, 2NE1 recently caught the attention of Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am, who swiftly took them under his wing. Get ready for 2NE1’s global takeover.

2NE1 has revolutionized the stereotype of Korean girl groups into something much more substantial than just pretty faces and well-toned bodies: From their edgy style and fashion (see “Can’t Nobody” and “I Am The Best”) to their confidence-oozing stage presence and charisma, these girls are a unparalleled presence in today’s K-pop scene. They’ve made a reputation for themselves as mind-blowingly innovative (sometimes questionably so) – not unlike what Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj do in the states. 2NE1’s music ranges from hip-hop and R&B to reggae and rock, highlighting each member’s unique strengths. Continuously breaking ground at the forefront of the international K-pop craze, 2NE1 recently caught the attention of Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am, who swiftly took them under his arm and produced their upcoming U.S. debut album, set to release after their Japanese debut promotions this Fall. Get ready for 2NE1’s global takeover.

Lee Min Ho Chooses 2NE1's "I Don't Care" As One of His Top 5 Song Picks

2NE1’s “I Don’t Care” is the song he chose for when he wants to take off somewhere with no worries. “Whenever I thought that I want to go on a trip during the hot summer, I always listened to this song. Whether I was on my way to a shoot or stuck on a congested road, I’d feel like I was going on a trip whenever I listen to this song.” (how cute! reminiscing the good old memory with dara ker...? hehehe!)

The original image the public had of 2NE1 was ‘toughness,’ closer to their image from “Fire,” but “I Don’t Care” is the song that placed them onto stardom. A number which goes better with one’s happy humming and the bobbing of shoulders than intense and acrobatics-like choreography. A reggae mix version of the song was released later on as well but like it shows, the song is more about one enjoying themselves than singing it well, the attitude unique of reggae tunes.

2NE1's Interview on CHOA Magazine

Holding a great influence on the lifestyle of young women in South Korea, 4-member dance and vocal group, 2NE1, has finally made their debut in Japan on September 21st. Big Bang’s younger siblings, they have a unique mix of hip-hop and R&B music, and always brings something fresh everytime they come out with new songs in Korea, resulting to ranking number 1 every time. With their edgy fashion and make-up, they have been a standard that young women imitate.

On the onset of their Japanese debut, we’ve asked these four people what is in their hearts and to introduce themselves:

Finally, the long-awaited Japan debut is here!

CL
Actually, I spent 7 years of my childhood living here in Japan. That’s why there’s a certain familiar feeling, like being back home. Also we wanted to really meet the Japanese fans soon, so we made preparations to come here fast. So the four members really prepared a lot since September. They were initially scheduled to debut last spring. But while they were here in Japan last March, Tokyo and a major part of eastern Japan, experienced a major earthquake, thus postponing their debut.

CL
We were preparing for our TV broadcast, when the earthquake happened suddenly. I don’t remember it clearly, but I do remember being so scared. So we had to temporarily leave Japan, but our hearts went out to all the Japanese people who were hurt.

BOM
In the past, I already experienced an earthquake while I was still living in the United States, but it was the first time that I experienced an earthquake that strong.

DARA
I also experienced earthquakes while I lived in the Philippines, but they weren’t as scary as the one (in Japan). When it happened, I got so scared that I felt sick, then there were the aftershocks. But I wanted to really come back because I was thinking of the fans who were waiting for us in Japan.

MINZY
It was the first time for me to experience an earthquake. At that time, I had an emotional/mental turmoil. But then I thought of everyone in Japan who are fans of our music, and it really helped me heal and that thought helped me calm my mind and recover.

To change the mood of the interview, we asked the members to please introduce each other to CHOA.

BOM
MINZY is a child who has really deep thoughts, and though she’s the youngest, for me she’s like a same-age friend, and sometimes she’s like a mother. So her nickname is Minji-unnie. Ha ha!

MINZY
CL is very powerful and charismatic on-stage. But during other times, she’s sweet and really deep too, she’s number one in taking care of people. She’s like the neighborhood unnie.

CL
DARA is someone who doesn’t open up fast. But when the relationship between you and her improves, she’s really very affectionate. Also she’s thoughtful and though she doesn’t seem like it at first, she’s also very sweet. She’s also the mood-maker of the group, she makes everyone happy.

BOM
Yes, yes!! She used to speak to us through email because she was so shy. (everyone laughs)

DARA
90% of our fans are all women, but there are also male fans because of BOM‘s cute voice and shapely legs. She’s our hidden card. Ha ha When she is around, you will never get bored. A person with her character will only come out once in every 100 years.

2NE1 Successfully Completes Debut Tour in Japan

On October 2nd, 2NE1 brought the “fire” and successfully completed their debut Japanese tour in Chiba!

2NE1 held six concerts during their ‘2NE1 First Japan Tour – NOLZA’ at three locations, including Yokohama Arena (9/19 ~ 9/20), Kobe World Commemoration Hall (9/24 ~ 9/25), and Chiba’s Makuhari Messe Hall. The concerts attracted an impressive figure of 70,000 fans.

YG Entertainment stated, “2NE1 brought in 70,000 spectators within a single month after their first promotional appearance on Asahi TV’s ‘Music Station’. …Achieving this kind of record during a Japan debut tour is rare.”

That’s not their only impressive achievement in Japan, however. 2NE1 reached #1 on Japan’s Oricon ‘Daily Album Chart’ with their debut album ‘Nolza’, and also became the first Korean artist to reach #1 on the weekly chart with a debut album.

2NE1 will release their 1st single in Japan on November 16th.

Ryu Shi Won picks Jang Geun Suk, 2NE1 as most likely to succeed in Japan

One of the original Hallyu stars, actor Ryu Shi Won, recently attended a fan meeting celebrating his 40th birthday, and reporters were interested to hear his thoughts on who would carry the Hallyu torch next.

He said, “Well, all my friends who have had activities there are doing well,” he continued, “Among the actor-singers, I think that Jang Geun Suk would do well, while among the idols, personally, I think that 2NE1 is a great group.” he said.

He followed this with, “Jang Geun Suk, I think, would do well. He’s a friend who matches well with Japan,” he said, “Ever since he went there last year, he’s been earning a lot of love.” In addition, he also said, “2NE1 just debuted in Japan, but the reaction there is intense,” he said, “Their unique style would appear to fit well with Japan’s taste,” he predicted.
