I wrote this letter a year ago, when I got better, but never sent it to Benedict Cumberbatch. I guess I thought It didn’t matter by then, but I’ll like to shared my story with you.

My name is Denisse, I’m 25 years old and I’m from Argentina. My apologies in advace if I don’t make myself clear along this letter, I never had proper english lessons before and I’m still learning.
I’d never written a fan letter before in my life, the thought never came to me until a couple of months ago when I was at the hospital for the fourth time in the past five years. I was diagnosed with Medullary Aplasia a few years ago, it was tough back then, but the doctor were amazing and I have a great family and a couple of good friends, so I got through it. There’re good times, moments without symptoms when I live a perfectly normal life, and others not so good as you can imagine. But I’m okay with this, cause I’ve always thought everyone has their own dose of troubles and blessings in life, don´t you think? Life has all these dramatic and wonderful moments, it never gets boring.
They said a lot of things, I heard the word “leukemia" several times, that was my biggest fear for years, but not anymore. They told me that I probably wouldn’t be able to get to my 30th birthday. But seriously, at my age, who can be sure about that?
The scariest thing I heard was that even if I heal, won’t have children and maybe I´m studying for a career that I’m never going to practice (I’m studying Medicine, btw). But along the years, it’s okay, you know? Not even the scariest things they said matter. I guess it’s because at the end, I don’t miss what I never had.
What I really missed, were the little things. Those little pleasures. I was so weak I couldn’t go to the shop and buy my favourite junk food (or even eat it), or walk through the city, have a night out with my friends. I missed the laughs so much!!! The last time I was in the Hospital, I finally felt empty and sad.
So, the thing is, one of my friends gave me “Hawking"”s dvd and I thought you were great in that role, it was amazing. Then he lent me “Sherlock" and that utterly blew my mind. When my eyes were in pain or I was feeling to weak I spend time resting and listening to “Cabin Pressure", “Metamorphosis" and it was wonderful. Of course, by now, I have watched several of your movies, series and I’m learning english through your audio books!! haha
It might be silly, I’m not saying something overdramatic as “Benedict Cumberbatch saved my life!", nothing like that. I always have my big goals and things to live for, my wonderful family and amazing friends, and of course, my future. You sir, however, made me laugh, cry, amaze, you made me feel when I wasn’t feeling anymore. And when you have nothing, this is everything. Because it gave me the streangth to overcome the situation.
So, THANK YOU!, for all this. I really admire you and your work, It’s great to see how fast your career is growing!!
I probably wont ever have the possibility to say any of this and thank you in person, nor even something as ask you for a photo or an autograph as many of your other fans do, but I’ll be happy if you know that someone on the other side of the world wish you have a wonderful life full of happiness."
It’s been a year now, I’m a doctor, my disease is in remission and it’s wonderful how life had all those happy and sad, very dramatic moments. But as I said before, it never gets boring.
