Silva focuses on top four finish
Valencia midfielder David Silva believes that victory over Real Zaragoza this weekend will almost certainly clinch a Champions League spot for Los Che.
While the Spain international knows his side's hopes of winning the title have effectively evaporated, he remains confident that the Mestalla outfit can qualify for Europe's top club competition next season.
Valencia currently occupy fourth place in La Liga and hold a four-point advantage over Sunday's opponents Zaragoza, who are in fifth. A win over their Champions League rivals would put Quique Sanchez Flores' side in a commanding position with just four games - against Real Mallorca, Villarreal, Levante and Real Sociedad - to play.
Silva said: "To be seven points clear with four games remaining, we would have to do very badly to let that slip.
"They are going to be all difficult, especially against one of our direct rivals. If we win [against Zaragoza] we are almost sure of a qualifying for the Champions League.
"Barcelona are in a very good position and their advantage is great over for the rest of the league, and in this aspect things are difficult for us," he said.

Viana disillusioned with bench
Valencia midfielder Hugo Viana has spoken of his unhappiness at being dropped from the starting eleven.
Viana is specifically upset at being benched for the 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid after starring in the victory over Sevilla the previous weekend.
"I am very disillusioned at Valencia because I have few opportunities to play," Viana complained. "I have the utmost respect for the coach and my team-mates but this is the impression I am getting.
"Whenever I don't play I get disappointed," he said. "I was greatly surprised to be dropped for the match against Real Madrid, really upset," continued the former Newcastle man.
"I played well against Sevilla and given the victory I believed I would get the chance against Real, but this was not possible."
The Portugal international went on to hint that he was being under-used by Quique Sanchez Flores, as with Valencia short of options in midfield he expected to be given more of a run-out.
"I expected more minutes of playing time after the injuries to Ruben Baraja and Edu," he declared. "But the coach has decided to use other options.
"I would never demand a place in the starting eleven and I only look to work hard every day in training... I'm taking each day as it comes."

I Will Listen To Offers - David Villa
The Valencia hit man has added fuel to the fire surrounding his future, suggesting that he might be willing to listen to offers after the end of the Spanish season.
The Valencia man has six more years on his contract, and a release clause of 150 million euros, but that has not stopped speculation over his future.
He has been heavily linked with Chelsea over the last two months, and Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been mentioned in connection with him over the last few weeks.
Valencia have issued a strict hands-off warning, but the Spanish international has shown a willingness to look at offers before confirming his future.
"I know that I am being spoken of outside Spain, and that is always significant for a football player," he told Don Bal髇.
"If an offer arrived from abroad, then I would take a moment to stop and think about whether or not it interested me."
"I feel happy with Valencia, and have not given my future a thought," he insisted. "However, is an offer were to be tabled, I would sit down and speak."
Juventus and Chelsea are the two foreign clubs linked with him. |
