VCD TEATER KOMEDI DAKWAH

tahniah suhaimi & husin.. aku dah tengok cerita ni.. pada aku part suhaimi .. aaron..husin.. m rajoli & djohan aje best.. era faridah & Sahfudin bosan..

'Saya tak pernah kudung kaki,' kata Othman sambil menunjukkan keadaan kedua-dua belah kakinya.

first time tengok iklan ni aku menangis.. esp part dia pesan pada budak budak tu..'ingat jalan ke depan bukan ke belakang'.. something like that ah..

Inside the mind of a suicidal mum
Tormented by fears of hubby's affairs
In March last year, she killed herself and her two children. Yesterday's inquest reveals what drove her to it
By Low Ching Ling

October 13, 2005

NO sane person can condone what she did - not only did she end her own life but also that of her two young children.

Madam Yap had tied red string around the wrist of each child and secured them to her own. --LIANHE ZAOBAO

Yes, she had suffered and was deeply depressed - her first husband had killed himself, she suspected her second of cheating on her, she had post-natal blues and then discovered she had cancer.

But to end innocent lives in such a horrifying manner?

A coroner's inquest yesterday gave an inkling of what went through Christine Yap Cheng Chui's tormented mind as she meticulously planned their deaths.

Only a mother drowning in the depths of despair could have written these words: 'I don't even sure will I be able to kill myself and the babies?

'What if I don't die, what if I died but the babies don't?'

On Mar 24 last year, Madam Yap, 34, jumped from the 25th-storey of Block 53, Chin Swee Road, with daughters Kathleen, 3, and Calista, 2.

State Coroner Tan Boon Heng ruled the deaths as murder-suicide.

Documents presented in court, which included seven suicide notes, show Madam Yap's painful and troubled life.

She suggested in her suicide notes that her husband, Mr Nicholas Oliver Prud'hon, 27, might have cheated on her.

In a five-page suicide note that was written like a poem, she alluded several times to his infidelity.

Artist's impression of how the bodies were found last year.
She wrote that she could not live on 'knowing that there is other women in you heart'.

Later, she blamed herself, writing: 'I am the one causing you having this kind of thoughts.

'I am the one whom to be blamed'.

She wrote that 'I am not saint enough to share your heart and body with other women', but in a touch of irony, she decided to leave her husband her CPF money.

'By the way, there is a consolation prize come along with my death. I have nominated you for the CPF. It will be around $50,000,' she wrote.

On killing her daughters, Madam Yap wrote: 'I will bring Kathleen and Calista with me. I love them too much. I don't want to leave them.'

She jumped with her children, bound to each other's wrists with red string - a belief that they would be reincarnated together.

NOT SUICIDAL

Mr Prud'hon, a French national of Vietnamese-Thai descent, was Madam Yap's second husband.

She appeared to have tried to take her own life during her first marriage.

A medical report submitted in court showed she was hospitalised in October 1995 for taking her husband's psychiatric medication with red wine after the couple fought.

She was discharged the next day after a social worker said she was not suicidal.

Later, her husband was believed to have killed himself. His death was a huge blow to her.

In her suicide notes to her family, Madam Yap said she suffered from depression. She went for counselling but 'it didn't help much'.

Then Madam Yap met Mr Prud'hon in France in the late 1990s.

They soon fell madly in love.

But cracks soon showed in their marriage, one of Madam Yap's suicide notes suggested.

'We didn't even have honeymoon after our wedding. And you already start to see and have other woman,' she wrote.

She referred to an occasion when she thought her husband was having an affair with another woman.

At the same time, Madam Yap grappled with her 'health problems'.

On three occasions between May and August 1999, she went to a doctor at a polyclinic, about a lump in her neck.

But the doctor did not find anything wrong with her, and she was referred to a specialist at a hospital.

Again, she was diagnosed as healthy.

In July 2001, Madam Yap and Mr Prud'hon had their first daughter, Kathleen, in Korea.

That was when Madam Yap sank into depression again.

She said in her suicide note: 'I was very happy to have her but at the same time, the anxiety and stress came along. They call it post natal blue.'

Madam Yap's condition worsened after she gave birth to their second daughter, Calista, a year later, in France.

She wrote: 'I started to hallucinate and lose sleep. I became bad tempered and suspicious, and I started to imagine things. I even began to scold and beat the children, and the beatings have become more and more severe.'

Both the girls were French nationals, like their father.

Meanwhile, Madam Yap's relationship with her husband became increasingly strained.

The couple moved to Hat Yai, Thailand, in 2002. Mr Prud'hon taught French at a school for gifted children.

Still, things did not improve.

DEPRESSION WORSENED

Madam Yap's depression worsened and thoughts of killing herself crept into her mind.

The suicide notes she left behind are ambiguous.

In one, she wrote: 'It can not carry on in that way. Especially when I found out that something bad is happening to my womb.'

Another told a different story as she spoke about her husband's infidelity.

But it clearly showed her shattered state of mind. But no one but Madam Yap will know the full extent of her 'dim dark sadness'.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was it planned?

SHE may have planned it in advance.

Madam Yap Cheng Chui first invited her parents to visit her and her family in Hat Yai. Yet, when they flew there on 19 Mar last year, she left for Singapore with her daughters.

Once here, she went to the CPF building on Robinson Road to name her husband, Mr Nicholas Oliver Prud'hon, as the beneficiary of her CPF savings.

She wrote in one of her suicide notes that she had left $50,000 to him, calling it a 'consolation prize'.

That evening, they checked into Hotel 81 in Chinatown. Around 11am on 24 Mar, she called her husband in Thailand and told him she had womb cancer. She also said she wanted to end her life.

Then, the phone line was abruptly cut off.

When Madam Yap did not answer their frantic calls, her parents and husband took the earliest flight to Singapore.

Minutes after she called her husband, Madam Yap and her daughters left their hotel room. They went to the 26-storey Block 53 on Chin Swee Road nearby.

Madam Yap took the lift to the 25th storey and tied her daughters' wrists to hers with red string. Then she leapt from the block with her daughters.

A suicide note was in a plastic bag around her neck. The police found two other notes in her hotel room. Madam Yap's family received another three notes days later. The police also recovered a five-page computer-written note, in the form of a poem.

Darul Ihsan orphanage under investigation for financial irregularities
ADVERTISEMENT

SINGAPORE : The Darul Ihsan orphanage, which provides welfare for Muslim orphans and needy children, has come under scrutiny.
Police are investigating into possible financial irregularities within the Muslimin Trust Fund Association (MTFA), a charitable organisation which has been running the orphanage since 1904.

This follows a police report which it lodged last month.

Besides a boys' home and a girls' home, the association also manages a financial aid scheme for orphans living in the community - that is those who live with foster families, guardians or relatives.

Channel NewsAsia understands the investigations involve monthly allowances meant for the non-residential orphans and that amount could run into thousands of dollars.

Officials in charge of the orphanage are not certain how the irregularities have taken place but a spokesman said money may have not reached the intended recipients.

It is believed that the non-residential orphans, who have been getting $50 to $100 a month each, failed to get their money at least once between January and May.

As the orphans are paid in cash, the association has also commissioned auditors to review its financial processes.

The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) spokesman confirmed it was informed about the case by the association's president on September 29.

It says the financial aid scheme in question does not involve government funding.

Neither is it related to the running of the two orphanages.

MTFA gives allowances to 743 non-residential orphans and has since spent $648,000 to help such orphans.

MTFA is trying to determine how many orphans could have been affected and in the meantime, try to help the affected families.

As a registered charity, MTFA qualifies for funding from MCYS but it depends more heavily on public donations.

DIABETIC and still want to fast for Ramadan? Yes, you can.
A study by doctors at Tan Tock Seng and Alexandra hospitals, done over Ramadan last year and in 2003, show that most diabetics can fast, if they are clinically monitored.

The lead investigator, Dr Winston Kon Yin Chian, a consultant endocrinologist with TTSH, said two thirds of the study's 55 patients showed an average 10 per cent improvement in their sugar level control.

In one patient, the sugar level dropped by 33 per cent after the fast.

Dr Kon proposed the study because it had never been done before and he wanted to see if it could be proved that people with diabetes could fast safely.

'There are two dangers when people with diabetes fast. One is that their sugar levels can go very low when they are fasting and they may faint,' he said.

The other is that their sugar level can go high because their medication has been cut too much or they break their fast with sweet stuff such as dates.

IMPROVE SUGAR LEVEL CONTROL

'But if they are supervised by a doctor, they not only can fast, but as the study shows, the majority will improve their sugar level control,' said Dr Kon.

Madam Noorani Othman, nurse clinician and diabetic nurse educator at TTSH, said: 'There was a need to look into this area. Muslims need to fast whether they have diabetes or not.'

For years, many patients who are diabetic did not even let their doctors know that they were going to fast.

'So there was no way for doctors to advise and guide them on how to fast,' said Madam Noorani.

As for the one third of the study's patients who did not improve their sugar levels, Dr Kon said: 'We advise them to go on a mock fast for two days before Ramadan starts so we can monitor their sugar levels and adjust their medication.'

Then as the fast begins, the doctor can monitor the patient and give advice on how to control sugar levels using either food or medication.

The patient would need to be monitored one month before Ramadan and also during Ramadan.

The greatest challenge for the team was finding patients to take part.

Said Madam Noorani: 'My mother was the first patient to agree! She said okay lah, I do it for you.'

In Singapore, Indians have the highest prevalence of diabetes (15.3 per cent), followed by Malays (11 per cent) and Chinese (7 per cent).

Some Muslim patients were also reluctant to take part as they did not know if it was all right to test their blood sugar during Ramadan.

Madam Noorani checked with a religious teacher, who said it was.

The study will be presented as a poster exhibit for the first Combined Scientific Meeting next month.

The three largest medical groups in Singapore - Singapore Health Services, the National Healthcare Group and the National University of Singapore - are combining resources and expertise to bring about the meeting from 4 to 6 Nov.

CARS slowed to a crawl in front of the Home Ministry's offices in the Malaysian capital.

Some drivers took a U-turn to go back for a second look.

The reason: Someone was distributing bubur lambuk at the end of the work day.

It's likely that people were more interested in the couple handing it out - Home Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid and his wife, Datin Seri Normala Samsudin - than in the typical Ramadan food itself.

Flashing her famous smile, the former television personality helped her husband distribute the food packets.

SOME QUEUED AGAIN

They were among senior officials who distributed bubur lambuk at the government complex in Putrajaya on Thursday.

Some people were seen joining the queue again to get another packet from her hands.

About 4,000 packets of porridge were snapped up within an hour.

A few people were also heard wishing her and her husband 'Selamat Pengantin Baru' - a reference to their recent wedding.

Although Datin Seri Normala was very friendly with the people who turned up, she was rather bashful when it came to the press.

She rushed to her husband's official car as soon as all the porridge was distributed.

Datuk Seri Azmi then stopped to speak to reporters.

GURU AGAMA DITUDUH CABUL REMAJA LELAKI

Oleh
Khalid Khamis

CHEOW TONG MOHON MAAF JATUHKAN MARUAH CHIAM

Menurut perangkaan, syarikat penyenggara sistem pembayaran EZ-Link, Transitlink, meng anggarkan sekitar 42,000 kes penipuan tambang melibatkan sistem bas awam berlaku setiap hari.

SURI RUMAH MENGAKU SEPAK tendang AMAH
SAZARINA Madzin mengaku menjadikan amahnya umpama 'beg tinju'.

'Anak sulungnya baru tamat menduduki Peperiksaan Tamat Sekolah Rendah (PSLE) sementara dua lagi anaknya masih menduduki peperiksaan.
