'Ferrari to pay-off Raikkonen'
Ferrari are reportedly set to dump Kimi Raikkonen at the end of this season, offering the Finn a massive pay-off to step aside for Fernando Alonso.
Rumours of Raikkonen's pending dismissal began last season when poor results and what appeared to be a lack of motivation on the 2007 World Champion's behalf grabbed headlines.
The speculation grew this year as the Finn competed in his debut World Rally Championship event, even revealing that rallying could be his future line of work when his current Ferrari deal expires at the end of 2010.
According to The Sun, a Formula One insider has revealed that the Scuderia are intent on dumping Raikkonen, offering him a massive pay-off.
'They say the Italian giants have told the 2007 World Champion he can have half the value of his 2010 contract - thought to be worth £25million - to end it one year early,' the tabloid has reported.
Should Raikkonen part ways with Ferrari at the end of the season it would pave the way for Alonso's arrival with the double World Champion believed to already have a contract for 2011.

Räikkönen hoping for 2009 race win
Kimi Räikkönen is aiming for victory and has stressed the importance ofachieving a good grid position ahead of the European Grand Prix on thetight and twisty boundaries of the Valencia street circuit. The formerWorld Champion looks forward to his return to racing after themonth-long summer break.
With the mid-year holiday period, which often lasts for three weeks butthis year stretched to four, ending this week, Räikkönen has enjoyedthe added time off. "Finally we're getting back to the track!" he wroteon the Ferrari website. "This year the summer break was longer thanusual and I had the possibility to recharge my batteries for the lastpart of the season.
"For the first week of the break I dedicated to the Finland Rally whichwas an experience I really enjoyed a lot, despite the outcome; it wasreally fun driving at the max in the rally in my home country, seeingso many Ferrari fans there. Then I spent some time with my family andmy best friends, doing some sport to keep me fit."
With FelipeMassa out with injuries and Kimi coming off the back of a strong secondplace in Hungary, the Espoo driver looks towards this weekend withconfidence, for a number of reasons. "I'll have a new team-mate inValencia," he continued. "Instead of Felipe - and I want to wish himall the best for a speedy recovery again - there will be Luca Badoer;he has been the official Scuderia test driver for many years and I'mglad that he finally got the chance to race a Ferrari. I really wishhim good luck and I'm sure that we'll work well together.
"We got a good result in Hungary which allowed us to climb back tothird place in the Constructors' Championship; this is the team'srealistic goal for the final part of the season. For myself, I hope towin at least one race after a third place in Monaco and a second inBudapest. Last year I didn't end the race at Valencia, caused by anengine failure, so this year I want to return and maybe even gain aplace on the podium; this is our realistic goal, although we know thatit will be difficult.
"Qualifying will be fundamental: it willbe important to start from one of the front rows, maybe even from theclean side of the track - it's really a disadvantage when you have tostart from the dirty side of the grid on this track because it's neverused during the rest of the year." |

Kimi: Ferrari no longer developing the F60
Kimi Raikkonen admits Ferrari will find it difficult to stave off the challenge from McLaren in the Constructors' Championship as they've already stopped working on this year's car.
With Brawn and Red Bull way ahead in the race for the Constructors' Title, Ferrari and McLaren are left to fight it out for third place. Ferrari currently occupy third spot with 46 points after Raikkonen scored second and third-place finishes in Hungary and Valencia. However, McLaren are just five points behind as Lewis Hamilton finished ahead of Raikkonen in both those two races.
Raikkonen believes it will be tough to stay ahead of McLaren as the team have already switched focus to next year's car.
"With the points we gained, we are still ahead of McLaren in the Constructors' Championship," he told the official Ferrari website. "This is our goal as a team, but it's very difficult to reach, considering that we stopped developing this car, concentrating on the one for the upcoming season.
"In a couple of days we'll be on the track again for the Belgian GP. The main goal is to hold the standard of the last races, which means that we have to try to get on the podium again."
On his performance in Valencia, Raikkonen said: "I really enjoy winning, but even a third place can give you some good feelings.
We started into the European GP from the sixth position on the starting grid, we had a good start and we managed to gain another place on the podium: we can hardly expect more than this.
"Our goal is to fight for a position amongst the first three teams and we've reached this goal."

Ferrari sign Fisichella as Massa's stand-in
Ferrari have confirmed the much-rumoured signing of Giancarlo Fisichella as Felipe Massa's replacement until the end of the season.
With Massa out of action and test driver Luca Badoer failing to make the grade, rumours at the Belgian GP suggested that Fisichella could fulfill a boyhood dream by racing for Ferrari at the Italian GP.
The rumours gained momentum when the Roman did his chances the world of good when he finished second in the Belgian race after claiming pole position for Force India, an extremely impressive result for the backmarker team.
Those reports were finally confirmed on Thursday with news that Force India have agreed to release Fisichella from his contract.
Force India owner Dr Vijay Mallya said: "Giancarlo and his management team approached me yesterday with the proposal from Ferrari.
"For any Italian driver, a Ferrari race seat is a long-held dream and for Giancarlo it was no exception.
"No one should stand in the way of this. Furthermore the agreement will secure Giancarlo's long-term future with Ferrari and it would be incorrect to jeopardise this, particularly when Giancarlo has made such a vital contribution to Force India."
Mallya added: "We would like to stress that we have not agreed any financial settlement with Ferrari.
"This agreement has been made in good faith and for the good of Giancarlo and the sport in general. A competitive Italian driver in a Ferrari for Monza is a positive story for Formula 1, which can only help raise the sport's profile in these difficult times.
"We would like to thank Giancarlo for all his help over the past one and a half seasons and for delivering us our first World Championship points last weekend.
"He has been an integral part of the team and we owe him a great deal for his input behind the scenes and performance out on track. We wish him all the best for the future."
