Origin: Channa marulioides (Emperor Snakehead) is found in rivers in southeastern Sumatra, Kapuas basin of western Kalimantan

Temperament: Aggressive

Company: Channa marulioides (Emperor Snakehead) should be kept with species smaller then the snakeheads size.

Water parameters: Temperature 22-28˚C / 72-82˚ F; pH 6-7.5

Aquarium setup: Channa marulioides (Emperor Snakehead) is best kept in a pond or a very big aquarium. The aquarium should be decorated so that there are a lot of open areas for swimming and some hiding places. Plants are recommendable and might be needed for breeding. This species need surface access to survive.

Feeding: Will like most other snakeheads eat almost any meaty food you give them or can be trained to do so.

Breeding: Channa marulioides (Emperor Snakehead) is believed to build a nest among plants and guard the eggs and nest. However we have no confirmed information.

Channa Micropeltes

Common Name(s) : Giant snakehead, red snakehead, Toman Sc. Name : Channa Micropeltes Habitat : It inhabits rivers, canals, lakes, ponds, swamps, marshes, padi fields, mining pools and road side ditches. It becomes the top predator in these waters. Water : 6.0-7.2 Temperature : 73- 80 癋 Size : up to 1 metres / 36 inches. Diet : Live food, beef heart, worms, meaty foods. Breeding : Channas are nest-brooding species. The nest is prepared by the parent fish who bite off the aquatic vegetation over a roundish area in shallow water near the shore. The snakehead can breed when it is 9 months old, at a total length of about 21 cm. After the eggs are laid, they float and form a thin film at the surface. Generally, the male parent guards the nest during the incubation period which lasts 3 days. Attitude : Aggressive. Best kept with larger or similar size fishes. Description : The Toman is the largest of all Snakehead species in the world. They can grow to a length of about 1 metres and is an extremely tough and hardy predator. It is also considered to be one of the best fighting fresh water fish by local anglers. This quality, coupled with its good tasting flesh, makes the Toman one of the most sought after game fish in Singapore and Malaysia.

Channa Striatus

Ikan haruan (ophiocehalus striatus ) biasa hidup di air tawar seperti di sungai, paya dan sawah tetapi ia juga boleh hidup dalam air payau. Keistimewaan ikan ini ialah pada ketahan diri dan khasiatnya dalam bidang perubatan.

Ikan haruan dapat hidup di dalam selut sehingga berbulan-bulan kerana ia mempunyai anggota penyedut udara. Ia sangat mujarab bagi menyembuhkan pelbagai penyakit termasuk luka, kulit bersisik, ruam dan lecur. Kajian mendapati haruan berpotensi menyembuhkan masalah luka dengan kadar tiga kali lebih cepat berbanding ubat tradisional lain, manakala pati haruan juga berfaedah bagi tujuan kecantikan wanita.
