Happy Masch gunning for United
Javier Mascherano believes Manchester United are there for the taking after Liverpool's midweek demolition of Real Madrid.
Liverpool destroyed Real with a clinical performance, claiming a 4-0 win to seal their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Fernando Torres put the Reds ahead after 16 minutes before captain Steven Gerrard made it two from the penalty spot.
Gerrard scored a spectacular third seconds after the break to deflate Madrid further and substitute Andrea Dossena added a fourth with three minutes to go, handing Liverpool a 5-0 aggregate win.
Liverpool take their place in the competition's last eight along with the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Whilst Mascherano is delighted with the Anfield outfit's progress, the Argentina international is now focused on Liverpool's crunch Premier League clash with United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
With United currently holding a seven-point lead at the top of the table, Mascherano is acutely aware of the need for a win at the ‘Theatre of Dreams'.
"We have to go to Old Trafford and win so we will see what happens.
"But if we play like we did against Real, it will be difficult for any team to beat us.
"It was a fantastic display. We were pressing all the time and didn't let them play."
Mascherano's optimism was mirrored by Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt who was equally ebullient about Liverpool's chances at the weekend.
"If we can beat Madrid 4-0, we at least have a chance at United.
"This (Real) was a great result and performance in the Champions League, but it's also great going into our next game on Saturday.
"It gives us confidence and we're really looking forward to the weekend now.
"Man United are playing very well - they've had some great results. But we'll see what we can do on Saturday."
