London attack: Police arrest 12 people in Barking as investigation 'progresses rapidly’
Counter-terror police have arrested 12 people in connection with the deadly London Bridge and Borough Market terror attack. The arrests were made in Barking, east London on Sunday morning. The investigation was "progressing rapidly" and a number of addresses were being searched, police said.
Seven people were killed and 48 people were injured, including two police officers, when three terrorists drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge shortly after 10pm yesterday (7am today AEST) and then stabbed people in Borough Market.
The attackers were shot dead by police within eight minutes of the first emergency call to officers.
Ms May confirmed the attack was not linked to the bombing of an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena, less than two weeks ago, but said both attacks as well as the Westminster Bridge attack on March 22 were caused by the "evil ideology of Islamist extremism" and claimed the the perpetrators were "copying one another".
