The tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) is a perennial plant of the agave family Agavaceae, extracts of which used as a top note in perfumery. The common name derives from the Latin tuberosa, meaning swollen or tuberose in reference to its root system. It consists of about 12 species.
The tuberose is a night-blooming plant thought to be native to Mexico along with every other species of Polianthes.
The Aztecs called it Omixochitl [oh me' zu che' tl] or bone flower. |

Its East Indian name, Ratkirani, translates to "Queen of the Night".
In Hindi it is called Rajnigandha (rajni meaning night; gandha meaning fragrance).

In Bangalore and elsewher in South India, it is known as "Sugandaraja",
which translates to "king of fragrance/smell".
In Singapore it is called Xinxiao which means "that on which the moth rests".
In Persian, it is called "Maryam" and is a popular name for girls.
The tuberose is also used traditionally in Hawaii to create Leis and was considered a funeral flower in Victorian times.
Its scent is described as a complex, exotic, sweet, floral. |

The tuberose grows in elongated spikes up to 45 cm (18 in) long
that produce clusters of fragrant waxy white flowers that bloom from the bottom towards the top of the spike.
It has long, bright green leaves clustered at the base of the plant and smaller, clasping leaves along the stem.
Members of the closely-related genus Manfreda are often called "tuberoses". |

The tuberose is a strong feeder,
and loves warmth,
plenty of water while growing, and a deep, rich, and well-drained soil.
The bulbs may be set in the garden or border the last of May or in June,
covering them about 1 inch deep.
Preparatory to planting,
the old dead roots at the base of the bulb should be cut away and the pips or young bulbs about the sides removed.
After keeping them till their scars are dried over,
these pips may be planted 5 or 6 inches apart in drills,
and with good soil and cultivation they will make blooming bulbs for the following year. |

ada wedding kat pahang arituh opismate dilla guna bunga ni lah taruk kat khemah kahwin
mak andam tu jadi remang pulak. dia kata macam bau tu nyucok2 kat idung.
memang bunga tu bau dia wangi kut erk  |

Kak Dila,
Bunga Harum Sundal malam(polianthes) ni memang baunya boleh meremangkan bulu roma, bau dia memang wangi sgt....
Tapi ada satu lagi pokok bunga yg juga digelarkan dgn nama Harum Sundal Malam tapi pokok ni pokok berkayu. Kalau masa musim berbunga, bunga die tak de bau wangi pun masa siang, tapi lepas senja bunga die akan mengeluarkan bau yg amat wangi dan meyucuk idung...tapi kalau bunganya dicabut dari ranting , bau dia akan ilang. Nama Saintifik pokok ni ialah Cestrum Nocturnal atau nama inggerisnya Night Blooming jasmine.... |

oh macam tu ke Krek...
arituh ada kawan kak dilla nak bagi bunga ni....tapi kak dilla takut
bukan apa macam terbayang yang dia orang criter ada XXXX dok begaut kat bunga tuh
x jadi amik...tapi teringin nak bau bunga tu krek |

semlm p xpo sempena hari last..dapat la pujuk pacik siam tu...dpt la hat yg dah berbunga..RM10 dr rega asal RM15. |
