Samand SE Unveiled

The new optimized version of Samand, SE, unveiled in SAPCO conference hall on Wednesday Feb 4, 2008 simultaneous with the Second Annual International Conference on Automotive Electronics Industry.

In order to meet market demand and to improve Samand brand, Iran Khodro has made remarkable changes to Samand SE high tech systems considering performance and quality levels of international standards.
EF7 high power gas engine used in SE, passes Euro 4 standard and its power and acceleration is 20% more than Samands and its consumption is 7 l/100km.
SE new axle has been designed and produced based on the most up to date technologies in the world. The multiplex system in SE replaces different scattered control units with highly concentrated electronic units, and this decreases the vehicle assembling time for about 15 minutes. It also eases the error detection process and drivers access to the car data.
There have been some modifications to the trim and outer parts such as audio system, instrument panel as well as taillights and license plate frame.
SE 30Kgs lighter weight, compared to the previous model of Samand, lessens fuel consumption and air pollution while increasing the products life.
SE production plan started in New Products Development and Design center last year. Most of the tests related to the performance and endurance of the parts and components were carried out in IKCO while the others got the certificates from well-known international test centers.

Iran's Newest: IKCO Runna

Date posted: 04-27-2009

TEHRAN  Iran's state-owned automaker, Iran Khodro Industrial Group (IKCO), has unveiled its second "self developed" car, the Runna. The compact sedan, in fact, is based on the same platform as the Peugeot 206 sedan, which is also built and sold in Iran by IKCO.

Code-named X12, the Runna is smaller than the IKCO Samand (X7), Iran's first domestic car, which was based on the Peugeot 405. The Runna will be offered with at least two four-cylinder engines, including a 110-horsepower 1.6-liter gasoline unit and a 1.7-liter powerplant that runs on CNG, both of which are reported to meet Euro V emission standards.

Features are said to include air bags, anti-lock brakes, power steering and power windows.

The first cars should begin reaching Iranian customers in March 2010, with exports to Turkey and other neighboring countries to begin shortly after that. IKCO plans to build 150,000 Runnas a year at full production.

Iran Offers Opportunity For Malaysian Automotive Part Suppliers

DUBAI, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian marketing mission on automotive-related products and services to Tehran secured RM10.3 million worth of orders from Iranian auto parts importers and car manufacturers recently.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade)-led delegation that took part in the Oct 5-7 mission comprised eight Malaysian companies.

They manufacture items like plastic parts components, alloy wheels, gasket, automotive accessories, auto lights system and others.

They held a business meeting with two leading car manufacturers Iran Khodro and Saipa, as well as Iranian auto parts vendors.

"The mission organised by Matrade was timely since the two car manufacturers would like to begin technical collaborations with Malaysian companies to supply the Iranian market," said Dubai-based Matrade senior trade commissioner Dzulkifli Mahmud.

Such link-ups, he said, would enable Malaysian companies to leverage their expertise, for example, in designing parts and moulds for car components.

According to Dzulkifli, Iran Khodro and Saipa together produced a total of 1.3 million cars every year, of which 81.3 per cent were passenger cars.

"With a population of 70 million, the Iranian market offers promising opportunities for Malaysian companies to export auto parts and collaborate with local car manufacturers and vendors to produce innovative parts and components," he said.

The trade commissioner pointed out that the automotive industry in Iran was experiencing strong growth for the past 10 years, averaging 23 per cent per annum.

In 2008, Iran was ranked the world's 16th largest automotive production country.

In the first seven months of 2009, total trade between Malaysia and Iran hit RM1.73 billion, with exports to Iran valued at RM1.17 billion and imports RM558 million.

Exports of automotive parts and components to Iran were valued at RM118 million.

"Malaysia's export of auto parts to Iran will grow 10 per cent per annum in 2010. Among the products that have potential to be exported are alloy rims, body kits, plastic injection moulding and anti-theft system," said Dzulkifli.

Iran Made Biodiesel Fuel

For the first time in the middle east, biodiesel fuel (the green fuel for diesel engines) was made in Green Products Refinery in Mashhad, North East of Iran.

Hadi Afshar a board member of the refinery in this regard said, “This fuel that derives from edible and non-edible oil seeds is certified by Iran Department of Environment and will play a significant role in reducing air pollution.”
“Gas oil contains 10 thousand ppm of sulfur while this amount is reduced to about 80 ppm in biodiesel fuel that lessens the air pollution by 130 percent. Mass production and using biodiesel fuel instead of gas oil will promote Iran’s standard position from Euro II to Euro IV,” he added.
He believes that biodiesel fuel will increase the vehicle acceleration. It also reduces depreciation of parts and prolongs the cars’ lives.
Afshar finally referred to the point that biodesel derivatives are produced in Mashhad Green Products Refinery and added, “government supports will enable us to produce 300 thousand liters of biodiesel fuel a day that would be increased to ten million litters in the second phase.”
It is noteworthy that in a research achievements exhibition recently held in Khorasan Razavi province, a biodiesel vehicle exhibited.
