Martinez laughs off Man Utd link
Martinez recently signed a new long term contract at Swansea
Swansea boss Roberto Martinez has rubbished claims he could be in line to be Sir Alex Ferguson's number two at Manchester United.
Martinez is one of the favourites to take the vacant role at Old Trafford.
But the League One manager of the year said: "It is a huge compliment coming from the best football club in Europe, but it's a compliment for Swansea City.
"There's nothing to be making decisions on, I've got too much work on my hands here at the moment."
Bookmakers have placed Spaniard Martinez as a front runner along with Brian McClair and Mike Phelan despite only one year's managerial experience.
In that year he led Swansea City to the League One title with a club-record 92 points and secured a place in the second level of English football for the first time in 24 years.
Martinez's rapidly growing reputation and his contacts abroad are being touted as the reasons why he could be in the frame.
Ferguson is looking for a new assistant after Carlos Queiroz left to take the job of coaching his native Portugal on Friday.
But he insists the Premier League and Champions League winners are in no rush.
"You take your time with these things," said Ferguson.
"I knew when Portugal came for him that it would be very difficult for us. But we've good staff and we'll carry on."

Berbatov can be Manchester United's new Cantona, insists ex-Old Trafford legend Pallister
Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov would be the closest thing Manchester United have had to Eric Cantona since the brilliant Frenchman retired according to Old Trafford legend Gary Pallister.
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed United have made a bid for Berbatov and the manager expects the deal to go through which will probably cost the Barclays Premier League champions around ?22million.
And former United defender Pallister, who made 317 appearances for the club between 1989 and 1998, could not be more delighted.
'Berbatov reminds me of Eric Cantona so much it is almost scary,' said the former centre-half.
'Maybe he does not have the same barrel-chest but he is similar in every other aspect of his game.
'He caresses the ball in the same manner, he has the touch, can score goals, bring others into the game and play up front on his own.'
Pallister certainly does not see Berbatov having a problem fitting in at Old Trafford and believes the Bulgarian will revel at United.
'He is the type of player fans of United love,' he said.
'There is an arrogance about him, just as Eric had, and you can tell straight away he would fit in.
'After winning the Premier League and Champions League last season, I am sure Sir Alex Ferguson felt he only needed to tweak his squad a little bit and in buying Berbatov, that is what he would be doing.'
United first faced Berbatov seven years ago during his Bayer Leverkusen days and have tackled him at mush closer quarters over the last couple of years since his move to Tottenham.
And Ferguson is sure he can bring an extra dimension to his side's attack.
'We have good expectations this deal will go through,' said the Scot.
'Berbatov has been impressive for a long time and would be a great addition to our attack.
'Time will work for us more than against us. We will not stress and we are hoping to have a constructive conversation with Tottenham in the near future.'
United have landed in Cape Town at the start of their three-match tour of South Africa without Owen Hargreaves, although they are confident he will recover from a knee injury in time for the season opener against Newcastle on August 17.
'By the time we come back from South Africa, Owen should be okay,' said Ferguson.
'We have certainly not written him off for the start of the season.
'He will have a series of injections in his knee but I am sure he will be fine.' |

Kaizer Chiefs rock United
Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Kaizer Chiefs in the opening game of the Vodacom Challenge.
United fell behind to a first-half penalty from Jonathan Quartey, but Chris Eagles spared their blushes when he nodded home a leveller midway through the second period.
Sir Alex Ferguson named a strong starting XI against South African opposition but the Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners toiled away to no avail during the opening 45 minutes.
The Red Devils dominated possession at the Newlands Stadium, but failed to create any openings of note as they looked bereft of attacking ideas without the talismanic Cristiano Ronaldo.
Their subdued approach to the contest was then punished on 38 minutes when a clumsy challenge from Gary Neville saw the Kaizer Chiefs awarded a penalty.
Quartey took responsibility from the spot and showed ice-cool composure as he sent Tomasz Kuszczak the wrong way to give the hosts a surprise lead.
However, United's class was always likely to shine through eventually and they forced an equaliser on the hour mark.
Carlos Tevez did well to dig out a cross from the right and, after the ball had looped over Itumeleng Khune's fingertips, Eagles was on hand to head home at the far post.
Both sides had a number of half chances as time ebbed away, but neither were able to find a winner and the game drifted tamely towards a draw. |
