KUCHING: Members of the main organising committee of the 50th Anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence Within Malaysia celebrations paid a courtesy call on the Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng at the Astana yesterday.
The delegation led by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang officially invited Salahuddin to grace the launching ceremony to be held on March 31 at the Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya.
Others in the delegation were State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Assistant Minister of Land Development Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz, Ministry of Land Development permanent secretary Datu Jaul Samion and Chief Minister’s Department Public Relations and Public Affairs Unit director Azlan Badri.
It is expected that Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, his wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, cabinet ministers and assistant minsters will join the over 5,000 crowd for the launching, which will also be done simultaneously at all divisions and districts.
An elaborate and very colourful presentation has been planned with artistes such as Hafiz of Akademi Fantasia 7; former Malaysian Chinese beauty queen and television personality Soo Wincci; and Iban singer Andrewson Ngalai invited to entertain the crowd.
Eight main events will be carried out throughout the year including a Cultural Symposium from April to December, exhibitions on Sarawak’s development in July, thanksgiving ceremony on Sept 15 at Masjid Jamek and other religious institutions, mass rally and parade and river floats on Sept 16 in Kuching, special investiture ceremony and the closing ceremony of the celebrations in November.
