i have times membership, dekat dgn rumah kat KLCC je, sejak pindah kat bawah lagilah senang
masa b'day dapatlah voucher sikit n' 15% discount, kalau kat Kino jarang ada discount, certain books yang dipromote je...
payless is heaven 4 me (selalu g kat ampang point), ada gak buku baru kengkadang macam "memoirs of a geisha" RM12, "angela's ashes" harga RM10-12.
Tp kalau nak beli gift books kena hati-hati coz banyak yang tulis nama, tak sesuai nak bagi kat orang.
Paling best, academic books from the original author (4 my field lah) melambak-lambak. Biasa borong sampai cashier tanya "nak buat apa dgn buku2 ni?" Dia rasa tak logic je nak baca sorang2 banyak2 camtu. Another thing, beli above RM100, adalah 5% discount. But I was told masa mother's day tahun ni, all books under parenting 30% discount. Rugilah tak tau coz selalu beli buku under this section. |

Can't Wait for a Book? Paris Can Help
PARIS (AP) - Readers craving Homer, Baudelaire or Lewis Carroll in the middle of the
night can get a quick fix at one of the French capital's five newly installed book vending
machines.
"We have customers who know exactly what they want and come at all hours to get it,"
said Xavier Chambon, president of Maxi-Livres, a low-cost publisher and book store chain
that debuted the vending machines in June. "It's as if our stores were open 24 hours a
day."
Stocked with 25 of Maxi-Livres best-selling titles, the machines cover the gamut of
literary genres and tastes. Classics like "The Odyssey" by Homer and Carroll's "Alice in
Wonderland" share the limited shelf space with such practical must-haves as
"100 Delicious Couscous" and "Verb Conjugations."
"Our biggest vending machine sellers are 'The Wok Cookbook' and a French-English
dictionary," said Chambon, who added that poet Charles Baudelaire's
"Les Fleurs du Mal" - "The Flowers of Evil" - also is "very popular."
Regardless of whether they fall into the category of high culture or low, all books cost a modest $2.45.
Installed in four busy Metro stops and a chic street corner in central Paris, Maxi-Livre's
distributors were designed to bypass the characteristic vending-machine-drop, which can be
punishing for books.
"We knew that French bibliophiles would be horrified to see their books falling into a
trough like candy or soda," Chambon said. "So we installed a mechanical arm that grabs
the book and delivers it safely."
Books are but the latest offering in France's ever-expanding vending machine market,
which is responding to off-hour demand for everything from toilet paper to carnations.
A passer-by runs past a book vending machine in a street of Paris, Friday, Aug. 19,
2005. Parisians craving Homer, Baudelaire or Maupassant in the middle of the night can
get a quick literary fix at one of the French capital's five newly-installed book vending
machines. Headline on the machine reads: "Book anytime". |

Seronok betul dgr citer korang pasal kedai buku kat kl ni. Teringat masa duk kat sana dulu. Sekarang ni dah balik kampung harap pada kedai majalah mamak kat pekan tu jelah. Tapi best jugak sebab dia tak kisah pun kau nak belek buku atau majalah tu berapa lama pun. Jangan mcm sorang penjual suratkabar sblh stesyen minyak tu, orang nak tengok-tengok apa tajuk kat muka depan suratkabar yg pelbagai tu pun dia boleh tarik muncung dan siap merungut depan kita lagi. Boring betul ! Tak lalu dah depan kedai dia lepas tu. Satu lagi, aku suka betul borong buku kat Pesta Buku yang diadakan setahun sekali kat KL tu. Bila tau tarikh dia je aku mesti gi KL waktu tu. Nilah masa nak beli buku & langgan majalah dengan harga diskaun & kdg-2 dapat hadiah lagi. Tak sabar rasanya nak tunggu Pesta Buku tahun depan.... |
