Warrants against Akshay

A Mumbai court has asked the Police Commissioner to execute a warrant against actor Akshay Kumar along with Guddu Dhanoa and Remo Fernandez for the abusive language used in 'Aflaatoon' exhibited in 1997. The court says it had to issue warrants as none of the three despite appeared in the court despite notices to them.

Vivek-Aish pair to repeat

Another pair of Vivek Oberoi and beauty queen Aishwarya Rai would soon be seen in Indra Kumar's forthcoming movie. Vivek has agreed and given dates whereas Aish is yet to finalize her schedule. Inder Kumar made up his mind to repeat this pair on the basis of their performance in 'Kyun! Ho Gaya Naa'. Since Vivek has agreed, Aish would not remain behind, and would soon give her shooting dates too.

HASSAN'S FILM IN JEOPARDY

Well-known actor-director-producer Kamal Hassan has decided to do a remake of Sanjay Dutt's popular movie titled 'Munnabhai MBBS'. He gave it a new name for his south Indian audience. Interestingly, the new title is ' 'Vasool Raja MBBS'. However, before Kamal Hassan began reenacting the movie, a section of the medical profession went to the court, calling the movie derogatory for its profession. The word 'Vasool' means its worth. This is to recall that Bollywood actress-cum-producer Manisha Koirala had named her picture 'Paisa Vasool', meaning that it is worth its ticket cost. The Madras High Court accepted the complaint and restrained Censor Board in Mumbai and Chennai from certifying the film.

Incidentally, Kamal Hassan has been awarded a doctorate from a southern university for his contribution to the film industry. Yes, this doctorate doesn't qualify him to practice medicine. However, this doctorate does give him regard in the society. Let's see how Kamal Hussain reacts to the objection raised by the medical profession. Hassan may change the title of his movie, which has been found objectionable to the medical fraternity of the very region he belongs to. These days the movie industry has been passing through a bad time  public outcry against movies on one or the other aspect. Whereas the audience is happy with more and more sex and bold scenes in a film, there are a section of citizens, which acts as a moral police. The industry has witnessed several such cases where theatre houses have been put on fire for exhibiting certain movies though they have been passed by the Censor Board for it.

Karisma, Sunjay a step towards peace

NEW DELHI: Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur haven抰 yet kissed and made up, but they are sure smoking the peace pipe. The couple appear to be reaching an understanding for an interim truce, if only to disentangle themselves from an acrimonious court battle over their infant child.

Under this understanding, Sunjay is expected to sign his daughter Samaira抯 passport application which will allow the baby to travel abroad with her mother. In return, Karisma is expected to give Sunjay limited access to Samaira. While this arrangement will not amount to a reconciliation, it will certainly lower the heat in their fight.

The indications of a thaw were available on Thursday when the advocates for both parties came for the scheduled hearing of the case relating to Samaira抯 passport, but only to seek more time from the court while stating that their clients were willing to sort out their differences amicably.

An oral submission was made on behalf of the couple before Justice Mukul Mudgal, who on the last date of hearing had advised Sunjay and Karisma to settle the dispute out of court. Justice Mudgal had asked them to weed out discord for the sake of their fivemonth-old daughter.

The case was fixed for a hearing on Thursday. Before the matter...

could be taken up, lawyers appeared in the court and requested for more time. Both sides claimed negotiations were on for a settlement. Sources involved in the negotiations said that it was likely that the couple would be able to arrive at an agreement.

This would be limited in nature as the larger issue of the marital discord between Sunjay and Karisma would remain to be addressed separately.

揘one of the two sides were willing to argue before the court as the latter had advised us. As per the judge抯 advice the couple and their respective families seem to be settling for a compromise and more time was asked for,拻 said an advocate.

Justice Mudgal adjourned the matter to September 23. The court is seized of a petition filed by Sunjay Kapur, who has challenged Karisma抯 decision to take their daughter abroad.

On August 30, Justice Mudgal had suggested that the couple attempt to reach a compromise. Although Kapur抯 lawyer had some reservations on the ground that past attempts to settle the discord did not succeed, he later agreed.

Karisma抯 advocate had said the case related to the issue of a passport and was not a petition seeking dissolution of a marriage or on the couple抯 marital discord.

The September 16 episode of KBC 2 is a special for Cancer Rose Day. Superstars Ajay Devgan and Kajol are playing for a cause they believe in. Excerpts from the show where host Amitabh Bachchan (AB) gets the celebrity couple to share little known facts about themselves.
  
AB:You抮e playing for a cause, what is the name of the Cancer Society?

Ajay: It is called Mahesh Memorial Trust, in Chennai. It is in the name of Mahesh Madhavan, a young music composer, who was suffering from cancer for 17 long years and died at the age of 47.

Kajol:In his will he wrote that he wanted his friends, from the industry, to set up a trust where people suffering from cancer can be helped. It could be to fight cancer - be it counseling, chemotherapy or even paediatrics (to start soon).

AB:Mani Ratnam is involved with this project?

Ajay:Yes, Mani was close to Mahesh. I did not know Mahesh personally, but Mani called me.


AB:Are we ready to play?

Kajol:I guess we won抰 be ready, but let抯 start all the same!

AB:Kajol and Ajay, you have a baby daughter Nysa (pronounced Nisa). How do you feel leaving her back home?

Kajol:We take her along with us always, but it is her sleeping time so we did not bring her with us.

AB:What does Nysa mean?

Ajay:It means Goddess of purity

Kajol:He named her Nysa. He had already decided that if the baby is a girl then she will have to be Nysa.

AB:How is she doing?

Kajol:Very fine

Ajay:Everything is fine but she talks a lot (and smiles)

AB:As a couple you have been very private people?

Ajay:I have always been like this, but she (pointing to Kajol) likes to go out once in a way.

Kajol:We spend a lot of time with the family and since our immediate families consist of 30-35 people, where is the time for friends?

Ajay:No it抯 not friends, basically just lazy. I just don抰 like going out.

Kajol:True. It is laziness. But Nysa is not like that.

AB:Both your parents are known to me. Tanuja, Kajol抯 mother was my first heroine. The film was Pyar Ki Kahani.

Kajol:Yes, I saw the film.

AB:Did you? Actually I got the role by default. The role was to be done by Jeetendra. He could not, hence I got to do it. Ajay抯 father is Veeru Devgan. I have to share an interesting thing about him with you. He started off in a small way. He came from Punjab with dreams of making it big in Mumbai. He started as a stuntman, then fight composer, film producer, distributor - he has achieved a lot. He was always keen to learn more. Ajay, you are very fortunate to be his son. Veeru, if you are watching the show here抯 wishing you good health, happiness and keep smiling as you always do.

AB:How did you two come together?

Kajol:We signed two films, which we did together. At that time he was seeing someone and I too was seeing someone. By the end of the film we broke off from our respective partners and became close.

AB:Did you then decide to get married?

Ajay:No. It was a gradual process. We were friends, spent a lot of time with each other, gave ourselves time.

AB:Since Veeruji was an action-co-ordinator, your earlier films were action films. Now you are doing a lot of serious films, how did that transition happen?

Ajay:I have been lucky to get the right kind of roles and also chance to work with the right directors. I think the opportunity was right, I did not make any effort really.

AB:Were you worried Kajol about his stunts?

Kajol:Yes, very worried. I asked him if it was me who made him so accident-prone. He said, 揘o. I have always been like this

Bhupendra Gupta is the writer-director and the film stars Sanjay Kapoor ,Rituparna Sengupta, Suddanshu Pande, Juhi Babbar, Vivek Shaque, Anjana Mumtaz,Yateen Kaekar and Aman Verma.The films music album has 7 songs penned by Shaheen iqbal and music by Sujit Shetty.The music arranger is Bhavdeep Jaipurwala who will also score the background music. Editing Nilesh Muley ,cinematography by Ishwar Bidri , art by Madhu Kamble ,song recording by Satish Gupta and sound recording by Naseer Wazidpuri are the pther credits. This will be the first Hindi film to be made with the use of a story board , format to be used will be Frame Forge 3D format. The film is scheduled for November 18.

Khan cleared over 'Rai threat'  

A tape in which Indian heart-throb Salman Khan was supposedly heard threatening Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai with underworld retribution unless she performed a show did not contain his voice.

Bombay police said the voice on the tape was not Khan's after carrying out laboratory investigations.

"The forensic laboratory that conducted the tests has given us a report saying the voice on the tape does not match with that of Salman Khan," Bombay additional police commissioner K L Bishnoi told reporters.

In the audio tape broadcast by television networks earlier this year, a man alleged to be Khan was heard threatening Rai, a former Miss World.

The man said she would face underworld retribution if she did not take part in stage shows sponsored by mafia don Abu Salem.

The police announcement followed an investigation ordered last July by R R Patil, deputy chief minister of western Maharashtra state, into the contents of the tape.

The tape was supposedly based on a phone conversation between Khan and Rai said to have been recorded by police in 2001. Both Khan and Rai declared it a fake.

Khan, known for his tough guy roles in Hindi movies who has a huge fan following, is Rai's former boyfriend.

But his denials failed to calm Hindu right-wing protesters who demanded his arrest for a comment on the tape that he knew about a series of bomb blasts suspected to have been organised by the underworld in Bombay in 1992.

Khan could not be reached for comment yesterday.

But his father, Salim Khan, expressed joy over the police declaration that the tape did not contain his son's voice.

MUMBAI,The voice on the tapes is not that of actor Salman Khan. Nor is he speaking to Aishwarya Rai. That抯 what the Mumbai police said today about the controversial audio tapes that put the Bollywood star under harsh media scrutiny for his alleged links with the Mumbai underworld.

The tapes were doctored and the voices of the actors were morphed and some dubbing took place, said Mumbai Commissioner of Police, A N Roy. 憫I am ordering a high-level probe to find out who had doctored them and from where they were procured,拻 he added.

The police chief抯 statement was based on a report from technical experts at the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL), Chandigarh, who found that the voice samples of the actors recorded in July did not match those on the four-year-old tapes. The CFSL results reached the police on Wednesday.

The tapes of the telephonic conversation, the transcripts of which first appeared in a local newspaper and were later played by TV channels, carried a voice, allegedly that of an inebriated Salman, intimidating a woman, supposedly Aishwarya, to perform at an entertainment programme organised by fugitive gangster Abu Salem.

The caller boasted of his links with underworld figures Dawood Ibrahim, Chota Shakeel and Guru Satam, and claimed that he had advance information about the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai in 1993.

Following media reports in mid-July about the existence of these tapes, from phone-taps allegedly done by the police, BJP leader Gopinath Munde raised a question in the Maharashtra Assembly and demanded a probe.

Elaborating on the CFSL findings, K L Bishnoi, Additional Commissioner of Police (Economics Offences Wing), said: 憫A detailed report on the findings will be sent to the Home Ministry.

Kim Sharma succeeds

Kim Sharma is the only girl out of the three in Yash Chopra's ' Mohabbatein', who has succeeded in her filmi career leaving the other two disappointed. Yashji had assigned roles to Kim, Shamita Shetty (younger sis of Shilpa) and Preeti Jhingiani, in 'Mohabbatein'. But later they remained without any offer. Kim, who is proud of her beauty, was determined to get into more films at any cost. She acted in 'Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai', 'Kahta Hai Dil Bar Bar' and ' Supari', but they flopped. Now, Kim threw herself completely in movies even if she has to indulge in sexy and skin shows. She announced it in one of her media interviews. She accepted all sorts of roles, including holding hot photo sessions. This did help her, and she bagged films like 'Taj mahal', 'Laoo Prasad Yadav', 'Nehle Pe Dehla',' Fida' and ' Yakeen'. She would surely get one or two of them to succeed at the box office.

Vivek Oberoi raises fee

Vivke Oberoi is reported to have raised his fee considerably. In the recent past he had demanded Rs 17.5 million from his earlier producer and that too after a discount. He had also asked him to pay 20 per cent of the overflow in case the movie succeeds at the box office. According to industry reports, Inder Kumar of 'Masti' has already agreed to pay him Rs 20 million, for his next movie.

Aish annoys Vivek

Vivek Oberoi starring with Aish in Boney Kapoor's 'Kyun! Ho Gaya Naa?' is annoyed with the heroine's behavior. When Vivek asked Aish to find time for a photo session, she replied that she would let him know after talking to his papa. Vivek felt let down by her ladylove wanting to consult with his father even for such a petty matter. In fact, Boney Kapoor had earlier failed in persuading Aish to give more time for the promotion of 'Kyun! Ho Gaya Na..' awaiting its release.

Mahima - Paes breakup!

Ghai's Pardesi girl Mahima Chaudhry has had another shock recently. First, she had a tiff with her discoverer showman Subhash Ghai in his 'Pardes'. Kareena loses position

Kareena Kapoor is always proud of her filmi family and its status. She chooses her hero and the industry obliges her. But enough is enough. Now the directors and the producers have changed their attitude toward her. In 'Yuva' she had to work opposite Vivek Oberoi though she had been saying no to Mani Ratnam earlier to act with Oberoi. She had to eat a humble pie. Besides, out of the three pretty girls like Rani Mukherjee, Esha Deol and Kareena, Rani Mukherjee was adjudged the best in 'Yuva'. Moreover, Kareena doesn't have many films in her kitty at present to boost of herself or her family.

Will SRK face disaster like Rajesh Khanna?

During the last decade, there were 15 hits in Hindi movies, and eight of them belonged to Shah Rukh Khan. If we keep Amitabh away, it can be said that Shah Rukh Khan has been as popular during this period as Rajesh Khanna had been the most favorite actor in his time. Besides, SRK has worked in many ad films and produced three movies. His hits like 'Devdas', 'Chalte Chalte', 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' and 'Main Hoon Naa' has made a sort of history. SRK's success reminds us of yesteryears' Rajesh Khanna who had over- taken the industry like a storm during his time. Only Dharmendra was an exception. Industry circles are worried that SRK is turning old like Rajesh Khanna. If it happens then it will be bad luck for SRK because nobody remembers Rajesh Khanna now.

Tabu joins school!

The 'Maachis' girl who has proved her mettle as a versatile actress and also got a Nnational Award for Best actress has now joined a school. This is not an ordinary school; it teaches its pupils the Spanish language. Her entry into the Spanish school has given an opportunity to her classmates of different nationalities to enjoy the company of this glamour girl. Let's see if she learns Spanish fast enough and avails it in her forthcoming movies.
