Liverpool Set to Make Andre Villas-Boas New Anfield Manager: Owners Make Contact With Former Chelsea Boss
![](http://cdn.caughtoffside.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/AVB-508.jpg)
So what do we have here then? Well if Liverpool’s American owners have indeed made an approach to bring in former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas to replace Kenny Dalglish as Anfield boss, and if indeed the young Portuguese manager is interested in taking the job, we are surely moving towards an appointment, right?
It is fair to say that Roman Abramovich harshly axed Villas-Boas after an unsteady, but by no means disastrous, start to his Stamford Bridge reign and the former FC Porto manager is still considered one of the hottest managerial prospects around.
The 34 year old is the favourites with most bookies to succeed Dalglish as Anfield boss and they are rarely wrong and the footballing style and his reputation for trusting to youth mean that Villas-Boas is very much in keeping with the apparent ethos Liverpool’s current owners are said to represent.
Villas-Boas guided FC Porto to a treble of a domestic double and a Europa League success in his one and only season in charge of his hometown club, losing just two out of 51 games in the process. Life at Chelsea was not quite so flawless with the Blues losing 10, and winning 19, of his 40 games in charge.
Considered by many as the ‘next Jose Mourinho’ there will no doubt be many sides still interested in Villas-Boas regardless of his Chelsea blip and it appears he is closing in on the vacant post at the Merseyside club.
Would Liverpool fans welcome such a move?

What about this? ![](static/image/smiley/default/shy.gif)
Wigan owner Dave Whelan has revealed that he has given permission for manager Roberto Martinez to speak to Liverpool about becoming the new boss at Anfield.
Whelan told Martinez, who has received rave reviews this season despite only narrowly avoiding relegation with the Latics, that he won't stand in his way of succeeding Kenny Dalglish.
"I was actually with Roberto when our chief executive called to tell him that Liverpool have made their approach," Whelan told ESPN. "That happened about half an hour ago, and I told Roberto that he had my permission to speak with Liverpool.
"I knew that the day would come when this happened, so it wasn't unexpected, he is a good manager so I am not surprised a club like Liverpool want him. |

Villas-Boas won't rush Liverpool decision
Andre Villas-Boas insists he will take his time before signing his next contract, with his comments coming in the wake of interest from Liverpool.
Villas-Boas, 34, has been out of work since being dismissed as Chelsea manager in March following a run of disappointing results.
He has been heavily linked with the Liverpool job since Kenny Dalglish was dismissed, and will reportedly meet the Reds' owners next week for an interview.
However, he faces stiff competition from the likes of Roberto Martinez - and even if Villas-Boas were offered the Liverpool post, there is no guarantee he would take it.
"I'm still choosing the right project and that decision will take the necessary time," he said, according to the Independent.
Having seen Chelsea triumph in the Champions League final on Saturday under Roberto Di Matteo, who worked as his assistant at Stamford Bridge, Villas-Boas said: "The biggest award is to win the Champions League. Congratulations to Di Matteo and the players." |

De Boer says no to Liverpool
Frank de Boer has ruled himself out of the running to take charge of Liverpool, with the Dutchman insisting he has work still to do at Ajax.
Liverpool have been linked with a host of big names since their decision to sack Kenny Dalglish last week and De Boer came in for support with the bookmakers over the weekend.
De Boer's stock is rising after guiding Ajax to back-to-back Eredivisie titles, but he is not looking for a new challenge in the near future.
"I am honoured by the request, but I am only just getting started with Ajax," De Boer told de Telegraaf. "In Amsterdam we are on a new path and, along with the club and Wim Jonk and Dennis Bergkamp, my colleagues in the technical team, I want to do great things. That's why I will stay loyal to Ajax in the coming years."
Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers has also turned down the chance to take charge of Liverpool, while former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas claims he is in no rush to make his |
