An ex- Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is not known for her beauty and acting only, but also for her melodious voice. This has been discovered recently when she sang a song during Simmi Grewal's 100th episode of her TV show 'Rendezvous'. She was asked to sing a song and she obliged the audience by her melodious voice. She sang a popular English song. Every one present cheered her up loudly. Significantly, Big B was present on the occasion and he clapped and cried, "Keep it up, Sushmita!

Aparna tries Dino & Bipasha pair in 'Gulel'

The well-known pair of Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu who had a hit in Mahesh Bhatt's 'Raaz' will soon be seen again in Aparna Sen's movie titled 'Gulel'. Aparna Sen has announced that she had already completed the first schedule of its shooting. Dino Morea is confident that his paring with Bipasha would prove another hit. We may add here that Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea's love story 'Ishq Hai Tumse' had flopped, and the directors and the producers had decided to keep a distance from this pair. However, Aparna Sen has boldly decided to bring them back on the screen and hit theaters with the pair.

Farhan to act as Amitabh's son

Director Farhan Akhtar and superstar Amitabh Bachchan who had fallen out during 'Lakshya' will act together soon. However, Farhan will not direct Big B but act as his son in Rituparno Ghosh's yet untitled movie. Besides, Rituparno Ghosh will also direct Junior Bachchan in a Bangla film opposite Soha Ali Khan, daughter of Bangali actress Sharmila Tagore.

Former Miss World-turned-actress Aishwarya Rai has turned diplomat too. She has recently been declared International Ambassadress, L' Oreal Paris. She claims to be a user of its products for a long time, and therefore says that L' Oreal stands for universal beauty, and also respects the woman behind the exterior.

Kareena's love for Karisma

Kareena Kapoor is doing very well in her profession but she is equally unhappy in her family life since her elder sister is faced with a matrimonial case. The court case between Karisma and her estranged husband Sunjay Kapur over the issue of a passport for their five-month-old daughter Samaira has upset Kareena too. Kareena loves Karisma and the latter's problem has afflicted her also. Kareena wonders if she could take her elder sister's problems over her head and thus save her sister from the present torture.

Yukta Mukhi shifts to singing

Former Miss World Yukta Mukhi distanced herself from acting after her 'Pyasa' flopped. Only last month Mukhi was seen at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. She was shooting her music video there. Yes, she is trying her luck now by turning a singer. Besides singing songs, she will act too in her album, she says. After all, she hasn't yet said goodbye to acting. We are keeping our fingers crossed about her new venture into singing though.

Ajay Devgan enters Bhojpuri movies

Bhojpuri films are becoming popular and sometimes more than Hindi ones. That's why big banners and big stars in the Hindi movie world are very keen on trying their luck in Bhojpuri movies. It is learnt that Big B is also acting in a Bhojpuri movie. He had acted in a Bhojpuri movie in the past too though the movie didn't fare well. Now, Ajay Devgan has decided to jump into Bhojpuri territory. The movie is titled' Dharti Kahe Pookar Ke'. Aslam Shekh is directing the movie. Aslam's earlier 'Bandhan Toote Na' has successfully completed its hundred days in theaters.

After Bollywood actress Nagma, who was seen in Panditji Batai Na Biyah Kab Hoyee, another Bollywood star is turning to Bhojpuri films. This time, it is none other than Ajay Devgan, who has left everyone stunned by signing a Bhojpuri film, Dharti Kahe Pukaar Ke, produced by Nirmal Jani. Ajay said that his role in the film was just a special appearance, for which he would just require a day. In fact, he is not charging the producer a single penny for this guest appearance. The lead actor of the film in question is Bhojpuri superstar Manoj Tiwari.

All those who thought that Ajay was turning to Bhojpuri films, can breathe a sigh of relief. It抯 better to leave Bhojpuri films for the Bhojpuri stars, what say?

Bips: Parveen's story similar to mine?

Bipasha Basu will play the character of Parveen Babi in Mahesh Bhatt's next movie titled 'Actress'. Mahesh is basing this movie on the real life of late actress Parveen Babi who had intimate personal relations with Mahesh Bhatt. Bipasha says that the story is about a girl hailing from a small town arriving in Mumbai and then turning into a big star in the film industry. The movie will depict the dark face of the glamour world too. Bipasha says she finds Parveen's story very similar to her personal life inasmuch as she also came to Mumbai from Kolkata and shot to fame in Bollywood. However, industry circles are puzzled as to how Bips could depict the dark chapter of the glamour world with her personal life.

Tusshar as Ekta's solo hero

Tusshar Kapoor had turned crazy following his success in 'Kya Kool Hain Hum'. However, a recent incident has upset him. A doorman at a discotheque in Mumbai refused him entry. Sad Tusshar rang up his sister Ekta Kapoor and told her about his sadness. The sister advised him not to worry, as she would now sign Tusshar as solo hero in her next movie under the Balaji Productions' banner.

Amisha enjoys overseas tour

Amisha Patel is frequently seen abroad along with singer Adnan Sami . She claims that this helps her earn a huge sum by dancing in Adnan's overseas shows. She denies any other motive though, and adds that she keeps in constant touch with her boyfriend and director Vikram Bhatt to get her film offers. Priyanka's dilemma

Priyanka Chopra is very happy these days because of her preoccupation with a number of movie assignments. At present, she is acting in Farhan Akhtar's 'Don' besides Farha Khan's 'Happy New Year'. However, she is a bit upset, as her hit partner Akshay Kumar has been evading pairing with her. She has therefore decided to pair with Abhishek Bachchan now. Unluckily though, the producers and the directors hold contrary views about her pairing with Abhishek. They strongly feel that Abhishek pairs best with Rani Mukherjee only. This hasn't disappointed her though, and she is still busy trying her pairing with Abhishek.

Manoj Bajpai plans production

Manoj Bajpai seems to be faring well but his wife Neha isn't anywhere near him. This is the greatest worry for Manoj. To establish his wife in the industry, Manoj has decided to enter into film production. This is not new for a husband to help his wife, but he needs to learn from the experiences of his colleagues in this regard. Not in the distant past, his colleagues have had only bitter experiences. Hopefully, he will listen to them.

Esha Deol's wish to act as solo heroine opposite Salman Khan seems to remain unfulfilled. The reason is simple; Salman has already finalized heroines for his home productions. Besides, a producer who has made three movies with Salman in the past views otherwise. He says that Esha isn't the right material to act solo opposite Salman. And, Salman says sorry, as he has no dates for the next two months. What a pity, Esha?

Salman ill, cancels New York press conference

A much-anticipated New York press conference featuring actor Salman Khan on Monday was cancelled due to the actor's illness.

The press conference, which was scheduled to take place at the Park Central Hotel, just south of Central Park in New York City, was meant to promote the film Kyon Ki, set for a Diwali release.

About twenty minutes after the scheduled start of the press conference, Avinaash Jumani, who is assisting in distribution of the film, told the half-dozen assembled members of the press that Khan was in his bathroom, throwing up.

One journalist asked if he could go to Khan's room and pose questions there, but Jumani noted that in his condition, Khan could not take any questions.

The press conference has been re-scheduled for Tuesday.

But members of the media have been asked to limit any and all questions to Kyon Ki, a subtle reminder that the actor was not interested in discussing legal issues, such as the hit-and-run case, which is slated to begin September 22 in Mumbai.

Khan loses appeal for closed trial  

Bollywood heart-throb Salman Khan will face a public trial on hit-and-run charges involving the death of a homeless man after losing a bid yesterday for a closed-door hearing.

The trial of the movie star, known for his tough guy roles, will open on Thursday in Bombay, the actor's lawyer Dipesh Mehta said.

Mehta said the Bombay High Court had rejected Khan's plea for an in-camera trial.

The brawny actor, who has a vast fan following, was accused of culpable homicide not amounting to murder over a 2002 accident in which his car ran over bakery workers sleeping on a Bombay sidewalk, killing one and injuring four.

Police have alleged in court documents the actor was drunk at the wheel and was driving without a licence.

Khan, known as Bollywood's bad boy due to his frequent brushes with controversy, also faces charges of killing a rare black buck deer in 1998.

He denies wrongdoing in both cases.

The legal setback for the actor came after police said last Friday a tape in which Khan supposedly threatened Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai with underworld retribution unless she performed a stage show was fake.

Police have said there are strong links between Bollywood, the world's most prolific film industry, and the underworld.

They say criminals often finance films and dictate casting.

AJAY DEVGAN IS SALEABLE

Are women averse to seeing Ajay Devgan in negative roles? However, Ajay claims so. He has become a saleable star in Bollywood. These days, he is in the news for two reasons: one, he is seen along with his actor wife Kajol in ads for mobiles and two, for his acting in Prakash Jha's 'Apaharan'. We met and chatted with him recently.

What's your role in 'Apaharan'?

I play a medical representative, named Ajay Shastri. I carry the burden of the expectations of my disciplined and principled father. But, I choose a way much different from that of my father though because of the circumstances.

Could you elaborate your role?

I play Bipasha Basu's lover. However, Bipasha gets married with Khalid Imraan due to my indecision. Then, I come to know that I have kidnapped Bipasha's husband.

So, isn't your role negative in 'Apaharan'?

You cannot call it negative as it has different and interesting shades. Being an actor, I need to play different characters.

Is there any other special feature in this movie?

In this movie, I am acting with Nana Patekar.

How did you find working with Nana?

This was wonderful. Relations between both of us are very cordial. This is my second movie with him. I have been with him in 'Bhoot' also. We have promised to each other to act together in more movies. I admire his acting skill. He possesses directorial ability too.

Do you have any plan to enter direction?

No, I have no plan for directing movies.

Aren't you doing 'Apaharan' to bag an award?

I don't believe in awards. Besides, no actor works in a movie with an aim to get an award. Every actor accepts a movie to do his best in the given role. I also accept a movie with the hope and confidence that I shall be able to do full justice to my role in it. An award is only an encouragement for the actor.
