Bundesliga - Bayern win German Supercup
Reuters - Sat, 07 Aug 20:57:00 2010

Thomas Mueller and Miroslav Klose were on target in the last 15 minutes to give Bayern Munich a 2-0 win over Schalke 04 in the German Supercup in Berlin.
Mueller, who on Friday extended his contract with the club until 2015, opened the scoring in the 75th minute as coach Louis van Gaal chose to field five of the seven Bayern players in the Germany World Cup squad, even though they only started training this week.
Bayern substitute Andreas Ottl sent a long pass forward which Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer failed to clear and Klose left the ball to Mueller -- joint topscorer in South Africa with five goals -- who steered it into the empty net from the edge of the area.
Six minutes later, Ivica Olic twisted past his marker to deliver a low ball which Klose converted from close range.
The German Supercup, between the winners of the previous season's Bundesliga and German Cup, was officially reinstated by the German federation this year after a 14-year absence.
As Bayern won the double last season, they met Bundesliga runners-up Schalke 04.

Bundesliga - Rummenigge rages over Robben
Eurosport - Thu, 05 Aug 16:28:00 2010
Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has accused FIFA and the Dutch football federation of negligence in the club’s latest complaint over the injury to Arjen Robben.
Netherlands winger Robben returned from the World Cup in South Africa with a thigh injury that will rule him out for up to two months, which Bayern claim was suffered on international duty but hidden so he could play in their run to the final, where they lost to Spain.
"It is a mini-catastrophe," he told the Sueddeutschen Zeitung. "If I rent a car I must return it in decent condition.
"They have, if I may say it in another way, taken Arjen in good shape and returned him to the garage in a right state."
Rummenigge suggested that the club may demand compensation for Robben, who was struggling with injury before the tournament and missed the Netherlands’ group wins over Denmark and Japan.
"We hope to find an amicable solution," he added.
"We pay the players, but the national teams injure them. FIFA values the players but we value them five or six times higher."
UEFA president Michel Platini has suggested additional insurance for top players at international tournaments, but FIFA needs to agree for such a proposal to come into effect.
"I hope we can get an agreement on this by Christmas," Rummenigge added.

International Friendly Preview: Denmark - Germany
Neighbors face off in their first post-World Cup friendly.
By Clark Whitney
Kick Off: Wednesday, August 11, 2010, 20:30 CET
Parken Stadion, Kobenhavn, Denmark

Denmark On The Rebound
After winning a qualifying group that included Portugal and Sweden, Denmark's World Cup campaign could only be described as disappointing. Two group stage losses, including a 3-1 defeat in their must-win finale with Japan, saw the 1992 European champions bow out of the competition in the preliminary stage.
Now, the team can only look forward to Euro 2012, for which qualifying begins next month. For tomorrow's friendly, coach Morten Olsen has decided to give many of his World Cup stars a break; with domestic leagues about to kick off, a third of the team that featured in South Africa has not been called up.
Among others, Olsen has decided not to include Nicklas Bendtner and Jon Dahl Tomasson, the latter of whom announced his international retirement on Monday, in his team. Additionally, Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen has been given permission to sit out his country's match as he works on finalizing a transfer to Liverpool.
The long list of absentees gives the Denmark coach the opportunity to experiment with his squad. Johnny Thomsen could make his international debut in midfield, while Olympiacos forward Dennis Rommedahl could make his 100th international appearance.
While it remains unclear who Olsen will name in his starting lineup, tomorrow's friendly should offer a good taste of what new flavor the Danes will bring to their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
Loew To Experiment With Squad
Germany's 2010 World Cup campaign was a brilliant run that took many by surprise. Even the German F.A. (DFB) may not have foreseen their nation in the semifinal; otherwise, it might not have scheduled a friendly match so soon after the tournament.
With the Bundesliga restart just over a week away, and many Germany internationals just beginning training at club level, coach Joachim Loew has spared most of his World Cup stars a call up. Of his regular features at this summer's tournament, only Manuel Neuer and Jerome Boateng have been named to Loew's squad, with several bench warmers also included.
"We are aware of our responsibilities regarding the health of the national players," said Loew in a pre-match press conference. "Following the intense strain and pressure of the World Cup, these players need the time at their clubs to prepare for the upcoming season."
The real focus of the Denmark friendly will be on the team's outsiders. While many members of Loew's World Cup team are likely to keep their positions for the majority of the next decade, there are some spots that are anything but certain. The position of left back was an issue of debate, and with Arne Friedrich and Miroslav Klose both the wrong side of 30 years of age, Loew may want to start looking for replacements in the centres of defense and attack. Elsewhere, pecking orders need to be resolved. For example, Bastian Schweinsteiger is indisputably Loew's favored central midfielder. However, his partner and their deputees are remain debatable.
"We have called upon players now, that we always kept an eye on," Loew told reporters. "In Copenhagen, it is their chance to shine."
There may be the better part of two years until Germany's next major international tournament, but for many, the window of opportunity is rapidly closing. It may be a B-side that plays on Wednesday, but the players will be full of motivation, making the match a potential thriller.
TEAM NEWS
Denmark
Christian Poulsen, who appears to be nearing a transfer from Juventus to Liverpool, has been permission to leave the Denmark squad.
Probable Starting XI: x
Germany
Picking a starting eleven will be no easy task with Loew's nominees. Confirmation has been made over two of the team's members, however: Piotr Trochowski (Achilles' tendon) and Marco Reus (cold) will be unavailable. Sascha Riether could make an inaugural appearance for die Mannschaft. Although Loew's plans remain shrouded in mystery, this match could be a good opportunity for the likes of forgotten men Marcel Schaefer, Christian Schulz, Andreas Beck, Thomas Hitzlsperer, and Patrick Helmes, to make bids for regular call ups.
Probable Starting XI: Neuer - Beck, Boateng, Tasci, Schaefer - Traesch, Hitzlsperger - Marin, Kroos, Hunt - Gomez |

Demichelis on verge of Bayern exit
Reuters - Fri, 20 Aug 22:47:00 2010

Bayern Munich's Argentina central defender Martin Demichelishas said he may leave the German champions after refusing to sit on thesubstitutes' bench before the season opener against VfL Wolfsburg.
"The truth is a cycle is over and that both sides wouldbenefit if they went separate ways," the 29-year-old told Bildnewspaper. "I did not think it was right to stay with the team when allsigns point to a separation."
Demichelis, who was inconsistent for his club last season and with the national team at the World Cup, told Bayern coach Louis van Gaal he did not want to be part of the squad after he was not included in the starting team to face Wolfsburg.
"Heasked the coach not to be included in the squad (after not making thestarting lineup)," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.
Van Gaal, who opted for a new central defence with Holger Badstuber replacing Demichelis alongside Daniel van Buyten, said the player had to accept he would not be first choice this season.![](static/image/smiley/default/pompom.gif)
"Imade a choice and he has to accept it. Last season he was a startingplayer, this season not. He still has to process this and it is noteasy," Van Gaal told Sky Television.
Demichelis has been at Bayern since 2003 and his contract runs to 2012.
