Mugubi linked with Liverpool

English Premier League side Liverpool are reportedly chasing the signature of Kenyan defensive midfielder Victor Mugubi Wanyama.

Sources told SuperSport.com that new Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers had included Mugubi in a list of potential signings in the Summer and his agent has been in contact with the Celtic's midfielder who is on interntional duty in Namibia.

"Mugubi has been receiving calls from his agent while in the Harambee Stars camp in Namibia where he has been getting briefings on the interest showed by Liverpool even though there nothing is conclusive yet," the source told SuperSport.com.

Mugubi was instrumental for Scottish side Celtic last season helping them to a league title and has also been at the core of Harambee Stars’ World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He moved from Germinal Beerschot to The SPL at the start of last season.

   Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez is set to leave Serie A outfit Bologna this summer with Anfield his most likely destination.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time and would leap at the chance to join compatriots Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates on Merseyside.

Bologna want at least ￡16 million for the highly-rated star, who has scored 12 goals in 58 appearances for the club since joining from Uruguayan club Penarol in 2010.

Roberto Zanzi, general director of Bologna, admitted the club were working on a deal to sell Ramirez.

“We are negotiating with an important foreign club for Ramirez but their offer does not satisfy us yet. The deal is by no means close to completion,” he told Il Resto del Carlino.

Ramirez’s agent has confirmed he is in negotiations were with ‘a major English side’, with Liverpool looking by far the most likely to be at advanced stages of a deal. New Liverpool boss Brendan Rogers is keen to strengthen his midfield, with Icelandic playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson also on his radar.

Bologna vice-president Maurizio Setti has described Ramirez as ‘a born champion’.

“He would make a difference to any team,” Setti added.

Liverpool Prepare ￡8m Opening Bid for Tottenham Centre Back

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants Tottenham Hotspur defender Steven Caulker to be his first signing at Anfield.

The former Swansea manager is determined to be reunited with the 20-year-old, who spent the duration of last season on loan at the Liberty Stadium.

Before joining Liverpool, Rogers expressed a desire to keep the highly-rated centre-half in South Wales for another season but now wants Caulker to join him on Merseyside.

Spurs remain interested in loaning out the England under-21 international for another season to continue his development but have made it clear that Caulker, who is under contract in North London until July 2014, is not for sale.

Rodgers, however, is set to test Spurs resolve and is preparing an opening bid thought to be in the region of ￡8 million for the defender, who made 26 Premier League appearances last season for the Swans.

The Welshman believes Caulker is good enough to challenge for a first team spot at Anfield and this could tempt the youngster to push for a move. Spurs already have French international defender Younes Kaboul on their books and are close to finalising a deal to bring Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen to White Hart Lane.

Rodgers, 39, privately feels the 6 foot 3 inch star will be an England regular within a year and is willing to increase his offer for the youngster should Spurs rebuff Liverpool’s opening bid.

Dimitar Berbatov could be set for a dramatic move from Manchester United to Liverpool, becoming the first place to move between the clubs since 1964.

New Anfield boss Brendan Rogers is preparing to break one of English football’s big taboos this summer and pursue a United player. The former Swansea manager believes the classy forward could be the perfect foil for misfiring duo Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Rogers, 39, is friendly with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and is set to make tentative enquiries about Berbatov’s availability this week.

The former Tottenham striker is set to leave Old Trafford this summer after the falling down the pecking order in Manchester. He made just 5 league starts last term with Ferguson preferring Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez up front.

The 31-year-old is now deemed surplus to requirements, with support striker Shinji Kagawa having already signed and Polish international Robert Lewandowski a target.

But Rogers is convinced the Bulgarian – who finished the Premier League’s top scorer the season before last – still has a lot to offer and will fight to bring him to Anfield even if fans oppose the move.

So intense is the clubs’ rivalry that no player has been directly transfered between them since Phil Chisnall made the switch from United to Liverpool in 1964.

United refused to allow unhappy defender Gabriel Heinze a move to Anfield in 2007 but want Berbatov off the wage bill so are willing to listen to Liverpool’s proposal.

Rogers will have to beat off competition from big-spending European clubs PSG and Malaga, both of whom are also interested in signing Berbatov.
