Toma Ikuta had sleepless nights before shooting love scenes

Love scenes, 200 million yen sets, and jealousy have all been happening at shoots for Toma Ikuta (26) and Noriyuki Higashiyama’s (44) upcoming movie, reports Movie Walker, Daily Sports, and Mainichi Shinbum Digital.
“源氏物語 (Genjimonogatari)” is set for a December 2011 release with filming scheduled to finish within the year, but at a press conference on November 23 it had been revealed that one of the sets had cost more than 200 million yen to create.
Playing the movie’s lead character Genji, Ikuta had said he had been feeling the pressure every day but was determined to see it through.
“Many actors have played Genji over the years so I do feel the pressure, but I’m doing my best to listen to what the director wants, and I’m having fun.
“There are a lot of love scenes, and sometimes there were days I was so nervous that I couldn’t sleep the night before.
“I know the art department have been working around the clock to make the sets and I feel very thankful to them.
“Today’s the first time I see Higashijima-san on set, but he looks very different with a moustache,” he said.
In response to this, Higashijima, who has played Genji himself in 1991, said he was slightly disappointed he did not get the leading role.
“When I heard they wanted me to make ‘Genjimonogatari’, I was worried that I might be too old to play Genji, but then I found out it was Toma…and my character was something else…
“But I won’t keep losing to him,” he said.

Summary of Johnny’s Christmas Message 2010 Toma Ikuta
Hello, this is Toma Ikuta.
I have an announcement to make about my new stage show!
Starting next year from February 2nd, Mishima Double “Madame de Sade” and “My Friend Hitler”, that’s two plays I’ll be doing with my senior Noriyuki Higashiyama-san.
It’ll be at the Bunkamura Theater Cocoon (Tokyo) from February 2nd to March 2nd.
Then in Osaka’s Theater BRAVA! from March 8th to March 20th.
It’s being directed by Yukio Ninagawa-san, from Yukio Mishima’s plays.
It’s going to be a very challenging two-play show, but I hope as many of you can come and see it!
And, I also have a movie coming out. The movie’s called “Genjimonogatari” and it’ll be released in 2011.
We’re filming it right now, and I’m doing my best every day so I hope you all look forward to it when it comes out!!
And, I also have a drama coming out. The drama is Seicho Matsumoto’s two-night drama special “Kyukei no Koya” on Fuji TV. It’s a story set in the early Showa period, I’ll be dressed in Ivy League clothes as I play a young police investigator. So, please, it’ll go on air from Friday November 26 from 9pm to 10:52pm, and then part two from on Saturday November 27 from 9pm to 11:10pm! I hope you can watch it, it’s a really good show!
It’s getting colder every day now, but I hope you all enjoy every day and don’t catch a cold!

Higashiyama and Ikuta hope playing women will make them better actors
Johnny’s stars Noriyuki Higashiyama (44) and Toma Ikuta (26) talked about their hopes for their upcoming stage plays Madame de Sade/わが友ヒットラー (Waga Tomo Hitler, My Friend Hitler) in the “ミシマダブル (Mishima Double)” show at a press conference in Tokyo yesterday, reports Ticket Pia.
The two actors attended the event with other cast members and theatre director Yukio Ninagawa (74).
The first play, Madame de Sade, is set in 18th century Paris where six women talk about their encounters with an imprisoned aristocrat, Marquis de Sade, while the second, My Friend Hitler, is based on the historical Night of the Long Knives incident in 1934. Both plays were written by acclaimed Japanese playwright Yukio Mishima, who had even left notes saying he had wanted male actors to play the women in Madame de Sade.
Theatre director Ninagawa had said he had unique and big plans for his actors to try and match Mishima’s dramatic visualization of the shows. Hearing Ninagawa’s plans, Higashiyama said he had a lot to learn in order to fulfill his director’s expectations.
“I was surprised at how much of it expresses Ninagawa-san’s sadistic qualities,” he said.
“If we get through this play, we’ll be pretty amazing don’t you think?,” Ikuta said.
The two actors continued to talk about their own goals for the show.
“I hope [Ikuta and I] can learn a lot. I want to make it a play I’ll never forget, and I hope I can become a better actor,” Higashiyama said.
“This’ll be the first time I cross-dress. But I hope that the people who come to see the show go home thinking I was the most prettiest,” Ikuta said.
“Mishima Double” will start performances in Tokyo from February 2 to March 2 before moving onto Osaka for performances from March 8 to 20. Tickets are set to go on sale from November 27.

Toma Ikuta gobsmacked by actor Masakazu Tamura’s charm, but so was Tamura
Actor Masakazu Tamura (67) spoke highly of Toma Ikuta (25) at a press conference in Tokyo today for their upcoming drama, reports Eiga.com.
Both actors are starring in “球形の荒野 (Kyukei no Koya)”, a story set in 1960s Japan. Tamura plays a diplomat who was supposed to have died in Switzerland during the war, while Ikuta plays a detective.
During the press conference, Tamura has been reported to have said he was impressed with Ikuta.
“He’s very good looking and I’m looking forward to seeing what he does next,” he said.
Ikuta, who could not make it to the event because of other filming commitments, had sent a message about how he found working with Tamura.
“When I first met him, he was so charming my heart started thumping really loudly.”
Other cast members at today’s event included Yosuke Eguchi (42), Ikuta’s character’s detective partner, and Manami Higa (24), Tamura’s character’s daughter.
“球形の荒野 (Kyukei no Koya)” will go on air in Japan on November 26 and 27.

Toma Ikuta’s surprising liking for women drivers
Johnny’s talent Toma Ikuta (26) revealed his slight fetish for women drivers at a promotional event for Toyota held in Yokohama on December 22, reports Sankei Sports.
Ikuta and actor Takao Ohsawa (42) play detectives in the new commercial for Toyota’s newest Vitz model car.
During the event, Ikuta did more than try to encourage more women to drive the car company’s popular compact-sized car.
“I’m attracted to women who drive cars.  When I’m in town and I see a woman driving a car, it makes me look twice,” he said.
It has been reported that another surprise during the event was when the commercial’s other co-star, six-year-old American model Ariel, gave Ikuta and Ohsawa a kiss on their cheeks.
New versions of the Toyota Vitz commercial will go on air in Japan from today.
