Phillips 9@98 costs only $198
Has 10 hours of talktime and four weeks' standby time
No camera so safe for use in high-security areas
THIS phone does not have a camera.
Neither does it have Bluetooth, MMS, MP3 playback or any of the high-end features that are normally found in new phones.
In fact, you can use this phone just to make calls or send SMS.
Yet this is one of Philips' latest phones that boast 'cutting-edge' technology.
And the technology of this Xenium 9@98 phone is probably something that many users are waiting for.
According to Philips, its Xenium range of phones come wired with state-of-the-art circuitry that will cut its power consumption to the lowest possible level.
When not in use, the phone goes into a sleep mode, which explains its low consumption.
With such technology, the Xenium phones can 'extend' the life of a normal lithium handphone by allowing 10 hours of talktime and four weeks' of standby time.
So confident are they with this technology that Philips has made this its main selling point for the Xenium phone.
It is actually eyeing the thousands of NSmen as its potential customers for its basic Xenium model, the 9@98.
Why? Because this phone does not have a camera, which is prohibited in certain high-security areas.
More importantly, as NSmen sometimes have to be out in the field or in camps for days, the ''long' battery life of the Xenium will be an advantage.
A spokesman for Philips said: 'They will not have to worry about not being able to find a power point to charge their phones.
'The phone will allow them to keep in touch with their loved ones during the duration of their stint.'
He believes that the phone will also appeal to older folks who just need to make the occasional calls, without the hassle of frequent charging.
And it's cheap.
The 9@98 costs only $198 without a contract. |
