JOHOR BARU, Dec 5, 2015: The Tunku Laksamana of Johor, Tunku Abdul Jalil Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim, passed away at the royal ward in the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here today. He was 25. Tunku Abdul Jalil passed away at 7.11pm after battling cancer for some time. His remains will be buried at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum in Johor Baru tomorrow. Tunku Abdul Jalil is the fourth child of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah. He was born here on July 5, 1990 and was later invested as the Tunku Laksamana of Johor in Muar in 2012 by his father, Sultan Ibrahim, in conjunction with the state ruler’s birthday celebrations. The prince is also a commissioned police inspector and held the post of the Royal Chief of Staff of the Johor Palace in October this year.
The former stage-four cancer survivor was known to be a “People’s Prince” due to his approachable nature and friendly ways to Johoreans of all races.Tunku Abdul Jalil was the brother of the current Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
The Tunku Laksamana Johor cancer foundation was named after him. It is learnt that Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin is scheduled to issue an official statement on the matter soon.
