Koeman: We Are On The Right Path

Ronald Koeman was delighted after seeing his Valencia side progress to the next round of the Copa del Rey as they defeated Real Betis on Wednesday evening.

The Dutch coach believes that the team is beginning to play the way that he wants them too and was pleased to see the effort that they put in to obtain victory.

Unlike his predecessor, Quique S醤chez Flores, the current Valencia boss does not like to rotate his squad for the sake of it and admitted that his priority was raising morale.

"The team is moving down the right path and we had to work very hard to win the tie," he explained.

"I am not a big fan of making lots of changes, but we had to combine the recovery of players' confidence along with those that play.

Robert Pires, Joan Capdevila and Nihat Kahveciall got on the scoresheet in a virtuoso performance as the high-flyingside avenged the defeat they suffered in the reverse fixture earlier inthe season.
Former Arsenal winger Pires scored a wonderful curling effort after beating two men to get into the box and exchanging passes with Nihat.
ManuelPellgrini's side commanded the match and gave their beleaguered localrivals very little in terms of chances in the first half, RubenBaraja's powerful strike that forced goalkeeper Diego Lopez to tip over the bar aside.
Ronald Koeman'sside began to gradually work their way into the match as half timeapproached, but failed to transfer any of their possession into keyareas.
The second half began much as the first had finished, with the influential Marcos Senna replaced at half time meaning thatValencia had more time in midfield.
Then, just after Cani'seffort became the fourth to hit the frame of the Valencia goal on thehour, Capdevila headed home a corner to effectively banish any hopes ofa Valencia comeback.
Seven minutes later, Nihat put the game well beyond doubt with a sublime chip over Timo Hildebrand that hit the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.
Theresult was not the only bad news for Valencia, as David villa wasbrought off in the second half and immediately had an ice-pack strappedto his knee.
Villarreal will finish the weekend in fourth place if Espanyol fail to win in Valladolid.

Valencia's sidelined midfielder ready to end his careerTue 22 Jan, 12:56 PM

MADRID (AFP) - Spain international midfielder David Albelda is ready to give up football altogether after being sidelined by coach Ronald Koeman at Valencia, he told a Spanish newspaper Tuesday.
"I am sidelined as they won't even let me train normally," he told the El Mundo daily.
"I don't deserve what they are putting me through, and I don't know the reasons. The supporters must know.
"I am considering giving up football," said the 30-year-old who has 50 caps for his country.
Spain coach Luis Aragones said on the subject of Albelda recentlythat players who don't appear regularly for their clubs will find itdifficult to make the squad for Euro 2008.
Koeman, who took over at Valencia in October, last month toldmidfielder Albelda, striker Miguel Angel Angulo, 30, and goalkeeper Santiago Canizares, 37, that they no longer featured in his plans.
