YOURS UNTIL DAWN

From Publishers Weekly
This newest Regency-era romance from veteran author Medeiros (One Night of Scandal, etc.) starts out as a crisp, bright tale of a woman whose no-nonsense attentions revitalize a disabled lord, but a jarring plot twist sends the book into a black hole that might leave readers feeling disoriented and cheated. Earl and naval hero Gabriel Fairchild lost his sight, fallen-angel good looks and fianc閑 after the battle of Trafalgar, only to acquire tart-tongued nurse Samantha Wickersham, a young woman with a shadowy past who refuses to let Gabriel sink into self-pity. As she teaches him how to navigate his mansion and regain his independence, he guides her along a journey of shared desire. But while Samantha gives Gabriel her heart, she keeps her secrets, vanishing when it becomes clear that Gabriel can finally survive without her assistance. Here the story staggers, revealing vital information hardly hinted at before. Then Samantha, who's cast as a straight shooter in the first half, inexplicably begins acting out of character, sending the final portion of the book into a spin that grows worse with every page. Though the first portion of the novel is as finely written as Medeiros's best novels, the ending proves to be a rough landing.

YOURS UNTIL DAWN is absolutely marvelous! Pure magic! And never was there a more perfect ending!

MY COMMENT

My imaginations was running wild when the author described the floor beneath their feet is visibly shuddered, the sounds of crash, the muffled roar stuff. I thought it is the children, and the storyline will be the heroin will end up married to the father. It tooks me a while to figure out that it is a man (Earl of Sheffield) that require the service and he is blind. This is another fact that also took me a while to sort it out. At first I was wondering why he is like that. Always accindentaly crush with a table, door, etc. The plot is a typical ones, a wounded man fall in love with his nurse, facing the obstacles, end up with a happy ending. But the way the author twist some important fact e.g. the nurse is actually his correspondence lover make this book  worth to read.

Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood

Habis baca buku ni last week. Cerita yang menarik, kadang - kadang agak boring dan meleret, tapi  towards the end semakin menarik. Kalau sesiapa yang suka cerita yang ada conclusion akan rasa frustrated sebab memang tak ada conclusion, whether memang betul grace ada double personality or dia memang cunningly deceiving people, is left to the reader to decide..   so rasanya sesuai juga buku ni kalau nak buat book discussion.. for me, the book is ok, but the blind assassin is better, so much better..

From Publishers Weekly
Intrigued by contemporary reports of a sensational murder trial in 1843 Canada, Atwood has drawn a compelling portrait of what might have been. Her protagonist, the real life Grace Marks, is an enigma. Convicted at age 16 of the murder of her employer, Thomas Kinnear, and his housekeeper and lover, Nancy Montgomery, Grace escaped the gallows when her sentence was commuted to life in prison, but she also spent some years in an insane asylum after an emotional breakdown. Because she gave three different accounts of the killings, and because she was accused of being the sole perpetrator by the man who was hanged for the crime, Grace's life and mind are fertile territory for Atwood. Adapting her style to the period she describes, she has written a typical Victorian novel, leisurely in exposition, copiously detailed and crowded with subtly drawn characters who speak the embroidered, pietistic language of the time. She has created a probing psychological portrait of a working-class woman victimized by society because of her poverty, and victimized again by the judicial and prison systems. The narrative gains texture and tension from the dynamic between Grace and an interlocutor, earnest young bachelor Dr. Simon Jordan, who is investigating the causes of lunacy with plans to establish his own, more enlightened institution. Jordan is hoping to awaken Grace's suppressed memories of the day of the murder, but Grace, though uneducated, is far wilier than Jordan, whom she tells only what she wishes to confess. He, on the other hand, is handicapped by his compassion, which makes him the victim of the wiles of other women, too?his passionate, desperate landlady, and the virginal but predatory daughter of the prison governor. These encounters give Atwood the chance to describe the war between the sexes with her usual wit. Although the narrative holds several big surprises, the central question? Was Grace dupe and victim or seductress and instigator of the bloody crime??is left tantalizingly ambiguous. Major ad/promo; author tour.

I could never care more or less about biography or autobiography. It always read from one person's point of view. I have not realised this book is a biography till the end. I was crying when I read it, the book is really a personal biography of two people, instead of one.

Mitch Albom was a great writer, and Tuesdays With Morrie is about life's greatest lesson. He had a mentor, once. His mentor was Morrie Schwartz, his professor back when he was in the college. Morrie was dying, and after 16 years, Mitch met his professor on his death bed.

They started a lesson every Tuesday, it's about the meaning of life. The unique way it was presented was the fact the writer knew the person so well, that their life experience was entwined with each other. It teaches everything a person should know; about world, regrets, emotions, death, fear of aging, marriage and forgiveness. This was what Morrie called Mitch's final thesis with him.

Mitch was the person we all know so well, which reflects ourselves, of aiming to work harder, to have more money, a bigger house, a new car - which this cravings are all materialistic in its' nature. Morrie was a great teacher who embraced life in his full potential. He could never care more about these things, but he cared about his relationships with people and God.

At the end, it was what Morrie cared that had more life value than what we, as a human, wants in our life.

I cried, I cheered, I feel triumphed over their achievements in life.

I was crying when Morrie died, and I was crying when Morrie told about his childhood and the death of his parents. On Mitch, I cried when he wrote about his cancer-stricken brother, but cheered when he tried to amend the bridge between him and his brother.

This is an excellent book, and true to its promise, it is about life's greatest lesson.

hi wa'ah....kisah Matt and Meredith ni dalam buku Paradise...this is one her Best novel I think...

Buku ni mengisahkan pasal Meredith, anak seorang jutawan yg telah ditinggalkan isteri...oleh kerana tak mau anak gadisnya ni mengikut perangai ibunya...ayah Meredith telah mengongkong kehidupan Meredith. Ini pada mulanya tidak dihiraukan sangat oleh Meredith pasal by nature die ni seorang yg baik...walaupun dibesarkan dgn segala kemewahan, Meredith tidak memilih kawan...kawan baik die Lisa comes from a large family...

errmm...mekna tak pandai nak sambung lagi tapi ni..i can type out the summary for you...

Meredith Bancroft, a serenely beautiful blonde, and Matthew Farrell, an intense, magnetic tycoon, are both haunted by their once-in-a-lifetime love - betrayed in a conflict of heartache and pain. When the Bancroft family empire is threathened by hostile takeover attempt, Meredith is forced to turn to Matt. .....

p/s wa'ah..klo dah baca PAradise...kena baca Perfect...another great novel by Judith Mc Naught..Matt & Meredith appears as cameo...

just finished reading: ainon zaini -indahnya cinta

komen aku: buku ni ok, untuk bacaan santai.. sebab grammarnya banyak tunggang terbalik (kang kena saman ngan DBP, kan susah )

anyway, ceritanya thru view syakirah sahaja, maybe lebih interesting kalau cerita tu also from view syakirin, untuk lebih kita kenal isi hati syakirin
nak tahu gak kenapa syakirin sanggup nikah ngan syakirah
kenapa tak elaborate perhubungan syakirah dengan mak bapanya yang sebenar
kenapa tak elaborate kisah kirman dengan zahida pulak
kenapa tak elaborate kisah diana yang terima pinangan orang

tapi overall, bagi aku buku ni enjoyable, cuma geram sikit la ngan syakirah tu, cam takde pendirian.. kejap suka, lepas tu tak suka, lepas tu suka..

maybe tak boleh lawan donia tulisan lamia aimal lagi..
