Clarke hails 'impossible' shot
The Uruguay international fired both goals as the Reds progressed to the Carling Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Stoke City.

But it was Suarez's first - involving a nutmeg on Ryan Shotton and a sensational curl beyond Thomas Sorensen - that drew looks of awe from all four stands in the Britannia Stadium.

"We had a great angle from the bench because we were sitting right behind the flight of the ball," first-team coach Clarke told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"As soon as he did the nutmeg on the defender and curled it, you could tell it was always going to end up in the back of the net. Most of us were up celebrating.

"The actual shot, the way it curled away, made it impossible for the goalkeeper to get a touch on it. The little bit of skill was fantastic and the shot was even better."

Liverpool have gone through a period notable for missed chances lately - and Clarke hopes Suarez's antics will be the start of a more fruitful phase.

"The way it's been recently for us, it was going to take either a very lucky goal or a very special goal to turn the luck for us. Last night was a very special goal," he said.

"If you go through a spell where the goals are not going in, all you can do in training is re-emphasise to the players to relax on the shot, take their time, pick their spot. A training situation and a match situation are totally different because you can't replicate the pressure of a match situation in training."

Meanwhile, Clarke insists it is too early to assess Suarez's fitness for the weekend following a night when three or four Liverpool players picked up knocks.

Our No.7 limped off in the closing stages to be replaced by Dirk Kuyt.

"Luis had a little knock," said Clarke. "We gave him a warm down and some massage this morning.

"We had three or four players who got knocks last night. Twenty four hours after a game it's difficult to judge but on Friday we'll assess the squad, do training and decide who'll go to West Brom for the game."

Dalglish salutes Suarez

The Uruguayan fired Liverpool into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-1 victory at Stoke to leave manager Dalglish singing his praises.

With the Reds trailing to a Kenwyne Jones header just before half-time, Suarez nutmegged Ryan Shotton and then curled a beauty into the corner in the 54th minute before heading the winner five minutes from time.

And Dalglish quickly said of his matchwinner: "I ran out of words to describe him after a week when he came to our place. It was a fantastic goal but I don't think anyone would have expected him to score with a tap-in.

"He had that many chances and if he'd taken one before it might have been a wee bit more comfortable for us but it was worth waiting for."

Liverpool had already tasted defeat at Stoke this season having lost 1-0 to a Jon Walters penalty in the Barclays Premier League in September, and they went behind again with a goal of their own making.

Dalglish added: "Every win's important but I think the most important thing was that we hung on in there.

"In the first half I think we missed six chances you normally expect us to put away, at least one or two of them anyway, but they got one in front.

"In the second half the boys dug deep, defended really well, the wee man scored a fantastic goal and then a good header as well.

"It was important that we finished off some of the football we've been playing, especially the last two games."

Cole strikes again in Lille win

An early goal from Jimmy Briand looked to have satisfied Les Gones, before a goal on the stroke of half-time from Moussa Sow restored parity in a lively first half.

Lille were the stronger of the two after the interval, and they reaped the rewards of an astute tactical change with Marko Basa heading into the net on 64 minutes. Joe Cole rounded off the win, capping off a fine move to seal victory seven minutes from time.

Following a week of European disappointment for the two clubs, the impetus was on both sides to edge closer to the summit of the table following PSG's comfortable win over Dijon earlier in the day.
Rudi Garcia's side hit the ground running in the early exchanges, but almost went behind following a defensive mix-up involving Rio Mavuba and Frank Beria.

Despite Les Dogues' advances, it was Lyon who struck the first blow after 20 minutes. Yoann
Gourcuff, recently back from a lengthy injury, carved out as superb opening as he found Briand on the wing.

The former Rennes man beat his marker with ease before firing a shot under Landreau's legs to make it 1-0.

On the stroke of half-time, Lille's perseverance was to be rewarded. From a corner, Marko Basa's header had unsettled Lloris who dropped the ball into the path of Sow.

The Senegalese striker backheeled the finish to restore parity as the sides trudged back into the dressing rooms on level terms following a lively first period.

After the break, Kim Kallstrom, scorer of a late equaliser when the sides last met in the league, threatened Landreau with a 25 metre effort, with the alert goalkeeper punching the strike away.

Lille were far more enterprising in the second period and were unlucky not to have taken the lead during a period of dominating play.

Florent Balmont set through substitute Joe Cole on the right wing, with the Englishman's pin-point cross a stretch too far for Marko Basa.

Rudi Garcia's tactical change to withdraw Idrissa Gueye for the on-loan Liverpool man might've raised a few eyebrows, but the substitution proved to be an astute one.

From a set-piece, Dimitri Payet floated a ball behind the defence, with Basa outjumping Bakary Kone and into the bottom corner on 64 minutes.

It should've been 3-1 minutes later. Another capitulation in midfield by the visitors, allowed Sow to make headway, feeding Hazard on the left.

The 20-year-old displayed some trickery before firing a teasing low shot at Lloris. Payet was withdrawn soon after for Benoit Pedretti with the hosts reverting back to their usual 4-3-3.

Lille rounded off the win, with a finely worked goal. Cole set through Moussa Sow with a neat through ball, with the striker reciprocating the favour and finding the Englishman for a tap-in on 83 minutes.

Aku pun teringin gak nak jumpa KING cm awek ni

The 18-year-old from Preston claimed the 2010/11 Barclays Community Sports Award of the Season prize for her work with the Fishwick Rangers Youth Development Scheme in Lancashire, where she has provided sport schemes for local women and ethnic minorities in the area.

As part of the prize, she was invited to meet the Merseysiders' manager at Liverpool's Melwood training ground.
She said: "It was such a thrill to meet Kenny Dalglish who has always been my hero. I was thrilled to win the award but this really was the icing on the cake for me because I have always idolised King Kenny."

Over the last two years Rabiya has worked in a voluntary capacity with the Fishwick Rangers Youth Development Scheme, establishing a number of schemes for women from ethnic minorities who previously did not take part in any sporting activities.

Rabiya has managed to increase the numbers of ethnic minority women participating in football, runs a number of football teams, and has set up swimming and fitness sessions to increase sporting participation amongst ethnic minority women who have suffered from social exclusion. She has also managed to encourage a further 25 women to become volunteers like herself.

Due to her commitment to the local community and the positive effect she has had on the women in Preston, Rabiya has been chosen as the first winner of the Barclays Community Sports Award of the Season that is backed by Barclays Spaces for Sports, the Premier League and the Football Foundation.

Commenting on winning the award Rabiya said: "I am delighted to have my work recognised by winning this award. I wanted to increase participation among women in Preston and the prize money will be a great help in continuing the Fishwick Rangers Youth Development Scheme."

Gareth Southgate, who heads up the judging panel for the award, said: "Rabiya is a worthy winner of the Barclays Community Sports Award. Her work is a credit to herself and her family, and I hope will be an inspiration for others to become involved with community sport. I am particularly impressed with the increase in numbers of women participating in sport thanks to her volunteering."
