MICHAEL CARRICK is a major doubt ahead of Manchester United's Champions League opener against Villarreal on Wednesday.
Carrick injured his right ankle midway through the first half as United slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool.
The England midfielder managed to play on until half-time before being replaced by Ryan Giggs.
Carrick, 28, later appeared on the United bench with a cast on his foot but boss Alex Ferguson was quick to insist it was just a precaution.
Fergie said: "I don't think anything is broken.
"It was a hard tackle and we'll have to take a look at it later in the weekend when it settles down.
"He certainly won't be fit for Wednesday I wouldn't think." |
