If you haven't seen Thor: The Dark World, you may want to stop reading now. Still here? Right, well once again, there will be MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD from this point! In the following interview with Total Film, Kevin Feige reveals that the final scene of the movie - in which it's revealed that Loki is masquerading as Odin in order to be the new King of Asgard - was planned from the very start, but does reveal that quite a few scenes were added during reshoots. One of those includes the opening of the movie in which the God of Mischief is brought before Odin and sentenced to the dungeons. Check out the interview below and sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!
Thor: The Dark World hits our screens on October 30 and despite being a behemoth of a man, and the title character, Thor is regularly overshadowed by his more imposing brother, Loki.
How does this happen you ask?
This is why…
1. Loki is funny
His wit is sharper than his sceptre and Thor cannot compete. In the modern age, the jock is no longer the king of the playground, it is the smart, articulate students taking over.
If Thor was in Essex he’d probably fit in fine. Loki is a sarcastic, comic book hipster if ever there was one as the following exchange proves.
Thor: The Earth is under my protection
Loki: And you’re doing a marvellous job of that
2. Excellent put downs
Thor tends to grunt loudly or shout when he is in a bit of a huff, Loki will deliver something scathing and lengthy with gusto.
This is how he greeted San Diego Comic Con goers: ‘Humanity! Look how far you’ve fallen. Lining up in the sweltering heat for hours, huddling together in the dark like beasts!’
3. Accessory management
No one rocks a dual horned, golden helmet better than the Lokmeister. Thor is too busy shaking his blonde locks around like he’s in a L’Oreal Elvive advert.
No, Thor, you’re not worth it.
4. Speech
Everyone in Hollywood knows that if you want a villain with a bit of class and a killer voice, you hire a Brit. Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston wants in to your club.
Thor’s droll Australian-American twang has nothing on his English counterpart.
Try saying: ‘I am Loki, of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose’ in an American accent. Not quite the same.
5. Skills and abilities
Loki has enhanced strength, stamina, speed, durability and being a descendant of the Frost Giants, his metabolism grants him superhuman levels of physical stamina. He can also take a bullet and is immune to all diseases and toxins.
All for a bloke who looks pretty normal in stature. He’s basically got a superhuman Jason Bourne thing going on and that is Bad… wait for it… Ass.
He’s also got more magic tricks up his sleeve than Paul Daniels too. Oh yeah, and he is only a flamin’ shape shifter! Who knows when you’ll need to turn into a salmon on cue.
Yeah, Thor is strong, has a ludicrously high pain threshold bordering on invulnerability, and is capable of going ‘berserkergang’ on enemies behinds when he so feels but there is no elegance, no class to his actions.
And he is reliant on eating Golden Apples of Idunn to keep himself going. What if Asgard is closed or it’s Sunday trading hours? Thor would be in some serious bother…
6. Personality
Thor is the goody, simple as that. On the thin line between love and hate, between good and evil, Loki jumps and dances across it with gay abandon.
This makes him a much more watchable and interesting character. Having seen him be a villain in Thor and Avengers Assemble, joining forces with his brother in the new film will be all the more impactful on the audience too.
Loki for President! Or maybe his own film will do…
