I had finished reading wife-lit (dark humour) book entitled How To Kill Your Husband by Kathy Lette.Eh, it's not a DIY manual on the topic, it's a wife lit, OK? I wouldsing praises for this book, since it outlines the pitfalls of workingcouple dilemma, on finding your perfect husband, and how to ditch yourhusband who cheats on you.
If you enjoyed Sophie Kinsella'sbooks (with warm, fuzzy, happy feeling), this book is NOT a healthyread for people who believe in happily ever after (including moi). I was exempted from it for the time being, since I actually enjoyed reading the book.
Anyway, don't say I didn't warn you girls out there about it.
Rating: 4/5 (it is a very dark book) |

in a week, (juggling between 3 books to read), i have finished reading Honk! If You're Malaysian by Lydia Teh
"Lydia Teh, the observer of the absurdities of Malaysian life, returns with more absurdities of life and oddities of human behaviour. Everything in life is grist for her mill; there's always something in the nothingness of everyday life that does not escape her pin-sharp eye. In this collection of anecdotes, she brings on more trenchant observations that capture the variegated textures and nuances of Malaysian life as it is lived." Eric Forbes
My review:
This a short anecdotes about Malaysians way of viewing life. I have never read a book/cloumn written by her, but so far, I find this book really entertaining. Based on observations from her, I realised, what most Malaysians taken for granted, about our neighbouring countries, our amusement in our life, traffic jams, the Internet, the buzz about blogging, Malaysia Boleh spirit! and etc. She jots down her anecdotes in such entertaining ways that it shows our own stupidity.. And we can laugh at ourselves since we can connect with her writings, as a Malaysian. |

Yatie baru habis buku ni.
Meet the D'Artigo Sisters-three half human, half-Faerie, wild and sexy members of the OIA-the Otherworld Intelligence Agency.牋Camille, a witch, Delilah, a werecat, and Menolly, an acrobat extraordinaire turned vampire, are sent Earthside to keep them out of trouble by their superiors, but the girls find themselves smack in the middle of Demon-Central when Shadow Wing, the leader of the Subterranean Realms, decides to attempt a coup on both Earth and Otherworld.牋Now, with their erratic powers, the sisters must use their collective talents to prevent the demons from taking over and to save two worlds, one monster at a time.
Ther first book is told from the point of view of Camille:
"At the Wayfarer Inn, a portal to Otherworld and the local hangout for humans and beasties alike, our fellow operative Jocko's been murdered.牋Every clue points to Shadow Wing, the soul-munching, bad-ass leader of the Subterranean Realms. He's made it clear that he aims to raze humankind to the ground, turning both Earth and Otherworld into his private playground. Our assignment: keep Shadow Wing and his minions from creeping into Earth via the Wayfarer. The demons figure they're in like Flynn.牋After all, with only my 'bumbling' sisters and me standing in the way, how can they miss?牋But we've got a secret for them: faulty wiring or not, nobody kicks ass like the D'Artigo girls."
My review:
Best jugak. Kinda like cerita Charmed: three sisters. But only Camille is a Witch. The background of the book is set around Seattle and konon2 nya dunia ni and Otherworld are interconnented through a portal where Fairies and other sorts of beasts are free to roam the earth and live amongst the humans.
This is only book #1. Book #2, CHANGLING, told from the point of view of Delilah the wareCAT will be out牋June 5.
Book#3, Darkling, on Menolly the vampire will be out in Oct.
Tak sabar rasanya nak tunggu the sequel because their mission in discovering the spirit seals tak habis lagi. So all in all i bagi this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Baru habis satu lagi buku. This time Killing Time by Linda Howard
In 1985, with much fanfare, a time capsule was buried under the front lawn of a small-town county courthouse, to be reopened in 2085. But just twenty years later, in the dead of night, the capsule is dug up, its contents stolen. That same night, one of the contributors to the capsule is brutally slain in his home–with no sign of forced entry or indication of a struggle. One by one, others who had placed items in the time capsule are murdered.
Besides his suspicions about the sudden, mysterious appearance of Nikita Stover, the chief investigator, Knox Davis, has absolutely no leads. And while Nikita’s no murderer, she seems to be hiding plenty of secrets. With more at stake than anyone else realizes, the smart-talking Nikita is determined to catch this cunning killer–while at the same time battling her own deepening feelings for a man and for a world in which she doesn’t belong.
My review:
Ok la. A typical LH book yg ada thriller and romance at one go. But also about time travelling. People from the future comes back to 2005. Another book by LH yg ada time travelling theme ni was Son Of The Morning and I like that one better. Plot dia lagi interesting than Killing Time. So for this one yatie bagi 3 out of 5 je. |

1. On the way to the wedding - Julia Quinn
Suka jugak buku ni.. best.. cuma bila dah hujung-hujung tu, bila diaorang ni jumpa asyik panggil nama & cakap i love you je manjang.. author dah kekeringan idea utk fikir dialogue yang bagus agaknya.. still, overall, quite a nice story..
2. Lady be good -SEP
Menarik jugak ceritanya.. tapi banyak sangat 'unnecessary' things occured.. i prefer kiss an angel.. sweet & simple |

in 2 days time, i have finished reading PhD comics (courtesy of my sis, who is currently pursuing her MBA, and still aiming to grab her PhD)
It is a good comic book, shows the insights of PhD students. It is an accurate / realistic translation of what PhD students faced - I have met 2 of them before, both of them testified that the comics reflects their life-
First book comprise from 1st-5th year of PhD and includes Grad student documentary, The Motivation Chart, Newton's laws of graduation, what is.. the Thesis? and etc
Second book covered The Procrastin-X, Deciphering Academese, and Grad Student Pick-up lines comics plus 6 strips not published online!, Behind-the-scenes author notes, Grad School the Boardgame activity set, Foreword by Karl Marx
It was interesting to note that Karl Marx, the famous leader, took 10 years to graduate for his PhD under pressure from his fiancee at that time. And Isaac Asimov, who is famously known as the writer of the book entitled "I, Robot" also took 10 years to complete his PhD. He took a break from his current thesis by writing novels.
This book is highly recommended for people who considers to take PhD, or currentl pursuing one, and feel that hope is lost for them

Baru habis baca
Tajuk : The Dream Of Scipio

to wymer and yatiedin,
this is my review regarding Lucia, Lucia.
The story begins when Aunt Lu,
invite Kit Zanetti for tea.
Derang ni tinggal kat apartment at Commerce Street.
Masa minum petang tuh laa
Aunt Lu (or Lucia) menceritakan kisah hidupnya
(yang berlaku in the 50's)
pada girl yang bernama Kit tuh.
Lucia is the youngest in the Sartori family.
She has 4 brothers,
Roberto, Angelo, Orlando and Exodus.
Everybody loves Lucia sbb dia sorang je anak perempuan.
Memula tuh, Lucia mmg ada BF nama Dante.
Tiba hari nak berbincang,
pertunangan diputuskan sbb Lucia
masih nak sambung kerja walau selepas kahwin
despite strong objections from her future MIL,
who owns a bakery shop.
So life goes on.
Lucia still goes to work at B. Altman Deparmental Store.
Kiranya Lucia ni tailor maker kat situ laa.
Later on, Lucia meet John Talbot
dan akhirnya derang bercinta
walaupun ayah Lucia tak berkenan ngan mamat tuh.
Back to Sartori family,
sebenarnya ayah Lucia pernah bergaduh
ngan adik dia disebabkan harta.
End of the arguement,
isteri adik dia sumpah Sartori and his wife
yg kalau derang ada anak nanti,
maka malang le nasib budak tuh.
Lucia yang first time tahu pasal sumpah tuh,
macam percaya tak percaya
tapi bila dia start putus tunang,
she thought, "that was it".
But it didn't end there.
Hari yang Lucia nak kahwin ngan John Talbot,
she was jilted ...
It's a good book though.
The book was written so detailed
that I felt like I could see/feel the street and
anyone would have love to work at the department store,
where Lucia is working.
At least I got to know about the Italians family.
How they love to talk out loud and
eat good food..a lot.
Selain tuh, aku suka book cover
yg ada ilustrasi Commerce Street masa 50'an.
Book cover yang kat atas tu
mungkin yang baru punya.
Mine was published in 2003.
Part yang sedih ialah ketika ayah Lucia dah nazak
and finally his brother came to visit him.
It was so touching to see
years of quarrel is meaningless
compared to strong family values.
I give Adriana Trigiani 7 out of 10. |

hello all.
lama tak login sini.
monch baru je abis baca
buku ni dan seperti biasa,
here is the review:-
It's an autobiography book of Julie Gregory.
She was the victim of Munchausen by Proxy (MBP).
MBP is a mental disorder in which a person (usually a mother)
inflicts injury on another (usually a child)
in order to gain attention and praise.
Julie was continually X-rayed,
medicated, and operated on |

finished perfume: the story of a murderer by patrick suskind
Amazon reviews:
Upon its publication last year in Germany Susskind's first novel Perfume immediately became an international best seller. Set in 18th-century France, Perfume relates the fascinating and horrifying tale of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a person as gifted as he was abominable. Born without a smell of his own but endowed with an extraordinary sense of smell, Grenouille becomes obsessed with procuring the perfect scent that will make him fully human. With brilliant narrative skill Susskind exposes the dark underside of the society through which Grenouille moves and explores the disquieting inner universe of this singularly possessed man

Tengah ada mood rajin nak baca buku nowadays.
Monch baru abiskan buku ni :
Actually, it's a collection of short stories.
There are 9 titles :
1. Mrs. Dutta Writes A Letter
2. The Intellingence of Wild Things
3. The Lives of Strangers
4. The Love of a Good Man
5. What the Body Knows
6. The Forgotten Children
7. The Blooming Season for Cacti
8. The Unknown Errors of Our Lives
9. The Names of Stars in Bengali
My favorite of all is the first one.
Citernya pasal Mrs Dutta
yang tengah cuba menyesuaikan diri
hidup kat umah anak lelaki dia
(which lives at California).
Ditambah plak dengan masalah
menantu perempuan dia
yang tak bersefahaman dgn lifestyle Mrs Dutta.
Overall, this book speaks for women.
Penulis buku ni nama dia Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.
She was born in India but now lives in California.
I heard her other books lagi best dari buku ni.
Maybe lepas Book Fair nanti
I'll continue to read "Sisters of My Heart". |
