RED MAKIN MANTAP

'Let's make it the Carling Kop'

Kenny Dalglish has never won the League Cup as a manager, and Liverpool have not tasted glory in any competition since lifting the FA Cup in 2006 under Rafa Benitez.

If they also finish this campaign empty-handed it will be six years without silverware at Anfield - the club's worst barren spell since they went seven potless years under Bill Shankly between 1966 and 1973.

Henderson is desperate to avoid that scenario following his summer move from Sunderland, and claims the Reds can do well in the Carling Cup after reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in four seasons.

"It's been a long time without a trophy for the club, but we're just concentrating on winning every game and getting that winning mentality back," said the England midfielder.

"We're quietly confident. We'll just keep looking forward to every game, keep building the team spirit and hopefully we'll keep putting in performances like we did in beating Stoke."

Dalglish will make history if he lifts the Carling Cup - he would become the first Reds manager to win all three domestic trophies.

Henderson claims Liverpool fear no-one in the last eight, even though all the other big guns will be in Saturday's draw.

"We're not bothered who we get," he said. "We'll take whoever we get and then focus on playing West Brom in the league [on Saturday].

"It will be a difficult game, but we'll go into it with confidence and we need to keep building on the progress we've made."

Andy Carroll started at the Britannia after being left out against Norwich, and Henderson praised his contribution.

Although he failed to convert a couple of chances, the £35million striker tackled back and helped his defence deal with Stoke's aerial bombardment at set-pieces.

"I thought Andy was brilliant," said Henderson. "He worked really hard, closed defenders down, won a lot of headers and had a few chances himself.

"He contributed a lot. He's been doing that in training and we all know what he can do.

"I don't think there's a problem with Andy's belief. He's a good player and he shows that in training every day."

Henderson set up Luis Suarez for Liverpool's late winner - after being left awestruck by the striker's first goal of the night, which saw him nutmeg Ryan Shotton before curling a shot past keeper Thomas Sorensen from outside the area.

"Luis was unbelievable," he said. "His first goal was absolutely brilliant. It really was a piece of individual class. That's what he is, and he does that every week."

Dalglish, meanwhile, felt Suarez also proved a point to critics who have accused him of diving.

The Reds boss claims the Uruguayan got hurt trying to stay on his feet when he was fouled by Jonathan Woodgate.

"The wee man has been fantastic since he first walked in the door here," he said. "He actually got himself injured trying to stay on his feet when he went around Woodgate when there was contact just before half-time.

"I think that puts the myth that the wee man is rolling all over the place into perspective.

"He has hurt himself trying to get a chance and he stayed on his feet when really, if you are that way inclined, you go down, get the penalty and get the man sent off."
