DONE DEAL: Liverpool Complete £15m Signing of Swansea City City Midfielder Joe Allen by The Newshound August 10th, 2012
Welsh international makes Anfield move. Liverpool have completed the signing of Swansea’s Wales international midfielder Joe Allen. Allen, 22, was at Anfield on Thursday as Liverpool beat FC Gomel 3-0 and passed a medical on Friday. He becomes Brendan Rodgers’s second signing after the capture of Italy international striker Fabio Borini.
“I feel incredible. Everyone knows the history of this club, it’s a massive club, and I’m delighted to have joined,” he told the club’s website. “The passion that people here have for football is something I share and I want to be part of that. “I’m looking forward to being part of some great years ahead for Liverpool.”
Rodgers believes Allen will play a key role in helping him impose his style of play on the Liverpool team. Allen was crucial to Rodgers’s system at Swansea and expects the Welshman to do a similar job at Anfield.
“I’m absolutely delighted that Joe has made the decision to come with us on this journey,” Rodgers said.
The Daily Mail are reporting that the Liverpool have paid £15m for the 22 year old Swansea City man, a player that Brendan Rodgers has pursued pretty much from the day he left the Liberty Stadium to Anfield.
Allen is Liverpool’s second signing of the summer following the acquisition of Italian Fabio Borini, who scored on his Anfield debut last night against FC Gomel.
Joe Allen will help to add guile and creativity to a midfield that could well do with improvement. Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam didn’t have great first seasons at the club and whilst Steven Gerrard has gotten somewhere near his best form towards the end of last term, at 32 the Liverpool legend is clearly in the latter stages of his glittering career.
Allen has represented Swansea City since the age of nine and whilst leaving the club would be a wrench he may well have felt he had gone as far as he could at the South Wales side.
The Carmarthen made 147 appearances for Swansea City since making his debut for the club in May 2007.
p/s : harap2 flop mcm Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson & Charlie Adam. aminnnnn.
