FERNANDO TORRES is in contention to end his month-long absence from the Liverpool first-team against Bolton Wanderers on St Stephen's Day following a significant improvement in the condition of the Spanish forward's troublesome hamstring injury.
Torres has been restricted to just 16 appearances for Liverpool this season due to no fewer than three separate hamstring injuries.
During his month away from the first-team, Liverpool's medical staff have attempted to analyse every aspect of Torres' hamstring and the frailties that have contributed to his problems.
Within his rehabilitation plan, the 24-year-old has also been subjected to a strengthening programme and assistant manager Sammy Lee has admitted that Torres is now back in training and reaping the benefits of his treatment.
Lee said: "Fernando is improving. He has worked very hard with his rehab and the state of play is that he is improving. I don't want to give any clues away, but all I will say that his rehab is really coming on. It's going very, very well and he is training with the lads.

"There was no way that he could have been ready for Arsenal (last Sunday), but in terms of the Christmas period, then I will just say that his rehab is coming on well.
"Such is the quality and class of Fernando, when he is not there, he is clearly going to be missed. So when he is back, he will be a great addition to the squad.
"You have to take the positives out of every negative situation and, having played throughout last summer with Spain, maybe he has benefited from his enforced absence. It wasn't nice to have Fernando injured and missing, but that's the nature of the game."
Manager Rafael Benitez continues to be absent from the club due to a kidney stones problem, but he is expected to return to work ahead of the clash with Bolton. |
