The three men participated in the 442 Foundation's charity match
Some of the most illustrious football personalities in the world met in Geneva for a charity match organised by the 442 Foundation, created by Getafe's Fabio Celestini. Its goal is to help children and teenagers integrate into society. Several former Madridistas like Zidane, Laudrup and Karembeu, as well as current ones like Ra鷏 and Bernd Schuster (who coached the 442 team) participated in a spectacular match that ended with a 10-5 score.
The star clash on Monday nights was the 442 Team-Olympique Marseille All Star fixture, which saw many football stars on the pitch, including the recently retired Zinedine Zidane. He teamed up with his former teammate Ra鷏 on the 442 side to face players such as Zenden, Anderson, Ravanelli and Pires. Zidane took part in practically every play, even assisting Ra鷏 for their second goal.
"I've played with two of the best players and best assist-men in football history once more: Laudrup and Zidane," said the Real Madrid captain, "The former was with us when I made my debut 14 years ago... It's been great. Francescoli, Canton釁 They are all in great shape." The captain also talked about Real Madrid's latest League victory, "You only celebrate winning a title when you do so. We took an important step last night, but we have to remain calm and take the points we need to become champions."
Bernd Schuster coached the 442 Team and said he "would've loved to have Zidane on his squad, like anyone else. I'm enjoying this day and this match, and I haven't even started to think about possible future celebrations."
Zinedine Zidane was very happy for having had the chance of participating in the match. "Years go by for all football players, but it is lovely to be here and play with men like Francescoli, who happened to be my idol. I've heard Zizue considers me to be his idol and I find that unbelievable. If it's true, then I think he has surpassed the master. I am glad for having been able to share this experience with him. I'm also very happy for Real Madrid because they may win the League again. They've done a great job and I want to congratulate them for it." |
