Yesterday, our dog Mocha was run and dragged over 20 meters by a car. She is a 9 year old Rottweiler and she's been with us since she was a couple of days old.
You see, we used to live in PJ and our house had a big compound area so it was a target for burglaries. Basically, we had a couple of break-ins and attempted break-ins on a monthly basis. We initially wanted to get a guard, but realised that the guard was not enough to secure our house that was kinda huge, so in the end, after much discussion and thought, we decided to get a guard dog. And so it started, our journey with Mocha.
At first, I was so scarred because growing up as a Malay, dogs were a taboo. It's not that we hated dogs, it's just that we were not used to it, and because there was so much work involved with coming in contact with one, naturally most Malays would just stay away from one. When knowledge on dogs were very low thus having compassion for a dog was close to none existent.
Alhamdulillah, this all changed when we had Mocha and slowly we discovered what having a dog means to our lives. Dogs are such happy creatures of Allah, so humble serving its master. It's not the same like having a cat because a dog loves to serve. They would do mostly anything for the attention of the master and would proudly protect and defend its master to its death. They can't help it because it's just the nature that Allah had created them. From a happy creature, it could go to the most fierce creature for the sake of defence. Allah says in the Qur'an:
And you would have reckoned that they were awake (as) they were lying down, and We turned them about towards the right and towards the left, and their dog stretching out his two fore-legs (Literally: his two arms) on the threshold. If you had viewed them, indeed you would have turned away from them in flight and indeed been filled with horror of them. (al-Kahfi:18)
As a red Honda Civic ran over mocha and dragged her under the car for 20 meters on the hard tar road surface, Mocha let out a scream and all the dogs around the area automatically started to get frantic. Suddenly, the whole neighbourhood dogs started to bark and haul excessively and loudly. Asma', who was with Mocha ran into the house and said to me and mum, "Mocha has been hit by a car! Can someone go and see because I cannot deal with it!" You see, this is because my family lost my late brother Salman through a hit and run accident. And this incident, brought the whole horror back to our life. My mum started to cry and put on her 'telekung' (praying garment) so she can go outside.
As I was already covered, I rushed outside and I saw something brown. I prayed to God it wasn't a piece of her on the road. Alhamdulillah it was just her poo because of the hit and shock she was in. I still couldn't see her but I saw a red Honda Civic 20 meters outside the road with neighbours coming out of their houses to see what the commotion was about.
As I worked my way up to the red Honda Civic car, there she was, lying on the ground, under the car, surviving trying to get herself out of the car. But she couldn't because the car was on her. She was hauling and crying and my heart was breaking. I started crying and stroke Mocha's forehead said, "Innalillahi wa inna hi rojiun" (Certainly everything is Allah's and to Him shall we return). All that was going on my mind was, "Ya al-Mujeeb (Oh the One who Responds), ya ar-Rahman (Oh the One who is Extremely Merciful) and ar-Raheem (Oh the One who is Constantly Merciful), please please please mercy on Mocha." Then after a few strokes, I shouted to the girl driver in the car, "Switch off your engine and get out of the car!" She didn't seem to respond. I think she she was in a shock since it looked like she didn't know what she hit. Then I screamed on top of my lungs, word by word "SWITCH OFF YOUR ENGINE AND GET OUT OF THE CAR!" NOW!!!!". And as she finally managed to get herself out of shock, she did as I said.
My mother was in front of our house screaming, "HELP! SOMEBODY HELP! CAN SOMEBODY HELP US LIFT THE CAR UP!!!!". She did this several times, and all the Malay men and women did was just looked at us. Alhamdulillah, there were Chinese uncles and aunties who rushed to the scene and our Chinese neighbour started to console my mother who was in shock and frantic. The whole memory of my brother came back to her and her body was in total shock till she started to shiver frantically. The auntie was holding my mother's hands, saying words of comfort trying to keep her calm.
After no response from the Malay neighbour men who just looked, an old Chinese uncle who was walking his dogs screamed, "Get the jack to lift the car!" I went to the girl's car, open the boot and got the jack out. The uncle started to use the jack and as soon as the car was lifted, out came Mocha.
We rushed Mocha to the 24 hour vet and came back sometime after 9pm. Alhamdulillah, the doctor said so far, she doesn't seem have any detected internal injuries. Yes, you can see her bloody skin was scraped here and there, and she is in a lot of pain. She also has bruises here and there internal and external, but so far, we cannot detect anything major. I hope it stays that way, inshaAllah....
After we came back from the vet, our neighbour the Chinese aunty came to our car and told us that the girl's father (who hit mocha) came to our street and said some very nasty things about us. She didn't want to specify because she said it was very nasty, but she gave a licensed dog collar to us. She told us that her dog had just passed away and she understood what we were going through. She said it was just in case if the girl's father was going to create problems. YA ALLAH!!!! I felt like screaming!!! What?! You hit an animal, and just because it was a dog, it deserves no compassion?! And on top of that you want to say nasty things about people who do have dogs?! What is wrong with these Malay people?!
I have been battling with my Malay identity for a long time. Trying my very best to fit with the Malays. Not only did I find it hard to relate to my Malay brothers and sisters, it didn't help that my brother was hit by our very own Malay neighbour, who was a member of the Pahang Malay royalty.
Can you believe it, these Malay neighbour used their contacts in the police force to cover the accident and my brother's case never got to the Magistrates' court. The police took away the evidence and just filled it as accident, not specifying that it was a hit and run by a car. We had to rely on our Chinese neighbours again to help us block the cars while my brother was bleeding to death on the rainy tar road outside our house.
I can safely say, I am done with trying to see what being a Malay is. Mocha's accident was the last straw. I have specified ethnicity in this entry just to highlight how I have come to the conclusion that I am about to say now.
There is no difference and thus I will not give preference to ethnicity anymore. Malay does not mean anything except the colour of my skin. Just as I have Thai and Chinese blood in me. At the end of the day, it is TAQWA (God consciousness) and AKHLAK (character) that makes a difference.
O you men! surely We have created you of a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you may know each other; surely the most honorable of you with Allah is the one among you have taqwa [most careful (of his duty)]; surely Allah is Knowing, Aware. (al-Hujarat:13)
I am at last at peace with my identity and I will let Allah judge these specific Malay brothers and sisters who have walked on this earth arrogantly, protecting and giving preference to their own kind. May Allah deal with you with JUST!
Not all Malays are bad, and not all Malays are good. Just like any other Chinese, Indian, Algerian, Arab or Bangladeshi. I now see people colourless... All my sense of racial and ethnicity preference has been wiped away, cleansed by my painful but necessary experiences in life. I hold the above verse so close in my heart as it is filled with wisdom and compassion. Truly Allah's words are the Truth.

Rasanya kita memang sambut sesama manusia je kann??

hurm, mak cik ni kata dia bela ikut cara islam? setau aku cara Islam x benarkan Anjing di bela sbg pet di dalam rumah
Lagi satu, aku sgt musykil dgn org yg dok bela anjing as pet ni, diorg basuh mensucikan diri betul x? 7 kali dgn bilasan pertama air campur tanah? aku tgk mostly mcm x je. Ingat pas bercomolot dgn anjing tu , amek wuduk trus suci ke? basuh pki air paip sental pki detol trus suci ke? ingat pki sabun taharah tu trus suci ke?
Sbb tu aku lbh prefer utk tidak memegang anjing wlpn x haram sbb kalo ko rasa ko mampu nak basuh dgn air tanah 5x sehari sblm solat, silakan lah. |
