Chelsea vs Fulham Player Ratings

Chelsea's title hopes took a further blow as they were held to a third consecutive 1-1 draw by Fulham at Stamford Bridge.
Following an insipid opening 45 minutes, Juan Mata put the Blues in front with a well-struck shot just inside the box in the 47th minute, but Clint Dempsey tapped home from close range just nine minutes later to earn the Cottagers a share of the spoils.
Here, we take a look at the players who made a difference at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea
Petr Cech - 7
Put all his experience to good use by knowing when to come out and punch the ball clear, and when to stay on his line.
Was relatively untroubled for most of the game, and could do nothing to keep out Dempsey's close-range strike.

Jose Bosingwa (off 81') - 7.5
Was one of Chelsea's best players in the opening half, bombing forward with regularity and whipping in a number of good crosses.
Unfortunately, his team-mates were unable to convert any of his deliveries, and the Portuguese international faded out of the game in the second half, making way for Paulo Ferreira in the 81st minute.

John Terry - 7
Steady performance from the Chelsea captain at the back, although he was helped by Martin Jol deploying just one striker up front.

David Luiz - 7.5
Put in another of sharp challenges on the Fulham attackers, and was excellent in his distribution all day long.
Delivered a glorious 60-yard ball over the top to Didier Drogba, but the Ivorian was unable to beat David Stockdale at his near post.

Ashley Cole - 7
Fairly quiet in the first half, but came to life in the second 45, and - at times - played more as a left-winger than a left-back. However, his deliveries from out wide were less effective than usual.

Oriol Romeu - 7.5
Another accomplished display from the Spanish youngster. Failed to get involved in many of Chelsea's attacking moves, although with Frank Lampard, Juan Mata and Raul Meireles all on the field, Romeu was content to keep his football simple.
And he performed his task as defensive midfielder to perfection, shielding his back four with grit and playing short, simple passes to get Chelsea on the counterattack.

Raul Meireles - 5
A very disappointing performance from the Portuguese, who did look unsure as to what his role was. Ended up playing as a target man in the dying minutes of the game, sending a couple of feeble headers goalwards. Looks most comfortable playing in a more advanced role, with Romeu and Ramires supporting him.

Frank Lampard (off 61') - 4
Based on his performance, Lampard presently has no way of forcing himself into Andre Villas-Boas' starting eleven, although that is by no means solely his fault. Was asked to play in a withdrawn role, with Mata handed the primary playmaking duties, and Lampard failed to exert any sort of influence on the game.
Unsurprisingly, the England veteran was hauled off just after the hour mark.

Daniel Sturridge (off 71') - 7
Gave John Arne Riise a headache all day long, but in all fairness, the battle between them probably ended in a stalemate. Still, Sturridge showed a number of clever touches, and came close to scoring when his delightfully-curled effort was tipped over by David Stockdale.

Juan Mata - 9
The only Chelsea player on the pitch who genuinely looked interested in carving open the Fulham defence. The Spanish maestro glided past his opponents effortlessly, and displayed his full range of passing.
Capped off a wonderful performance with a good goal just after the restart, when he reacted the fastest after Fernando Torres failed to control the ball, and lashed home a venomous strike into the top corner.

Fernando Torres - 5
One or two nice touches in the first half, but Torres certainly should have scored after fifteen minutes when he brilliantly controlled Mata's long ball, before firing his volley straight at Stockdale.
Otherwise, the Spaniard sent a few aimless efforts off target, and failed to link up with his team-mates. The difference was clear for all to see when Didier Drogba was brought on and posed a significantly greater threat to the Fulham goal.

Subs
Florent Malouda (on 61') - 7
The Frenchman showed Villas-Boas he still has plenty to offer, providing good width after coming on showing plenty of creativity.

Didier Drogba (on 71') - 7
Considering he only had 20 minutes to make an impact, Drogba did extremely well, peppering the Fulham goal with shots, and would have had a hat-trick had it not been for the brilliance of Stockdale.

Paulo Ferreira (on 81') - N/A
Came on for Bosingwa nine minutes from time, and looked slightly odd wearing a white protective mask.

Fulham
David Stockdale - 9.5
Based on this performance, Mark Schwarzer must be wondering if he'll be an automatic selection once he returns.
Stockdale blocked everything Chelsea threw at him, showing excellent reflexes on a number of occasions and made himself big on the few occasions his opponents had plenty to aim at. Was only beaten by a splendid effort from Mata, which few keepers would have managed to keep out.

Stephen Kelly - 6.5
Did his defensive work well, considering he was up against the two-pronged attack of Mata and Cole, but failed to offer his side anything going forward.

Brede Hangeland - 8
Chelsea's insistence on playing high balls into the box seemed silly considering Hangeland's strength in the air. Not that the Norwegian was complaining, as he repelled attack after attack with his towering clearances.

Philippe Senderos - 7
The oft-maligned Swiss defender seems to enjoying a new lease of life at Craven Cottage. Looked slightly uneasy when his old foe Drogba was brought on, but otherwise had a faultless game.

John Arne Riise - 7.5
Was engaged all day long in a enthralling battle with Sturridge, and more than held his own against his tricky customer.

Moussa Dembele - 8
Tireless performance from the Belgian international, who was his side's best outfield player. Retained possession of the ball well in attack, showing nice skill and pace when he slalomed past a number of Chelsea challenges, but was also ever-ready to help out in defence, putting in his fair share of crunching challenges.

Danny Murphy - 7
Simple but effective game from the veteran, although he will be disappointed he wasn't able to put in better deliveries from set pieces, considering the aerial threat from Hangeland and Senderos.

Clint Dempsey - 7.5
Started the game looking lost, which was understandable considering he was asked to play a more defensive role in the middle of the park.
Came to life in the second half and did well to bag Fulham's equaliser when he timed his run into the box to perfection, before prodding home Bryan Ruiz's cross.

Kerim Frei - 7
Exciting display from the 18-year-old, who definitely looks one for the future. Looked unfazed by the opposition, and wasn't afraid to run straight at the Chelsea defence, getting the better of Bosingwa on a number of occasions.

Bryan Ruiz - 8
Fulham's most dangerous player on the day. The Chelsea defenders failed to keep track of Ruiz's constant movement, and there was no stopping the Costa Rican once he was in possession of the ball.
Laid on an assist for Dempsey when he completely left Cole standing in his wake with a sharp turn on the edge of the area, before putting in a perfect cross.

Orlando Sa (off 83') - 3.5
Wasn't helped by his manager's decision to deploy him as a sole striker, but Sa should still have tried to trouble the Chelsea defence, rather than spend most of his time moaning.

Substitutes
Pajtim Kasami (on 83') - N/A
Sent a half-chance straight at Cech, but didn't have much of a chance to make an impact.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Player Ratings
Aston Villa shocked Stamford Bridge after coming from behind to record a 3-1 win over Chelsea on New Year's Eve.

Chelsea
Cech - 5
Cech was left exposed by his high defensive line throughout and could hardly be blamed for the three goals conceded.

Terry - 4.5
Not a very assuring performance from Terry as his lack of speed was woefully exposed by the far speedier trio of Albrighton, Agbonlaor and Ireland. He's definitely suited to defend in the box, not out of it. Heard that, Mr Villas-Boas?

Luiz - 5
Did marginally better than Terry for the fact that he was able to recover quickly when tracking back and looked very steady when bringing the ball up in possession. Resisted the mad urges to rush upfield like a striker too.

Cole - 5.5
One of Chelsea's best players in a poor outing for the Blues. Marauded up and down the flank like he usually does and offered an extra route to attack. Could still have done better in marking Albrighton though.

Ferreira (Off 75') - 4
It turned out that Ferreira was even more woeful than N'Zogbia, who had a woeful season so far. Not surprising actually, given the fact that he is rusty after being kept out of the side by Ivanovic and Bosingwa most of the time.

Romeu (Off 57') - 5
Faced off Petrov in the middle and did rather admirably but failed to rise above the ocassion to spark his side ahead. He'll need to improve beyond providing a physical presence for his side to become a crucial member of Chelsea's midfield.

Raul Meireles - 4.5
Part of Chelsea's listless midfield, Meireles couldn't quite find his passing boots today and failed to supply the passes to drive his side forward.

Ramires - 4
Ramires was especially wasteful of possession throughout the match, which could be held responsible for Chelsea's insipid passing game. Ramires did try to make it up with his industry but it wasn't what his side needed.

Mata - 6
Once again, Mata was the one Chelsea turned to and once again, Mata looked the most lively and creative of all the players. However, he was constantly marked and kept quiet by an excellent Villa defence.

Drogba - 5
Managed to win and score the penalty but Drogba was left to fend for himself against Collins and Dunne too often. Surely the Drogba of old would have conjured some magic for his side but sadly, he's past his prime at 33 years old.

Sturridge (Off 63') - 4
Sturridged proved this season that he has the special touch to gift his side goals with the mercurial touch but he was nowehere to be found against Stephen Warnock. The only attempts he had were long shots from the flanks which would never body any keeper of decent standing.

Subs
Lampard (On 57') -  4.5
He was expected to come on and drive the incoherent midfield forward but instead it was his errant pass that gifted Aston Villa a goal.
Torres (On 63') - 5.5
Actually, Torres didn't do too badly if he's compared to his usual performance in blue.
Bosingwa (On 75') - N/A

Aston Villa
Guzan - 7
Guzan always looked comfortable and likely to come out tops in a match where he was protected by his defenders. Pulled off an acrobatic save to deny Bosingwa's long shot in the second half.

Dunne - 7
A Premier League veteran like Dunne should know better than to concede a penalty through a clumsy tackle. Other than that, Dunne was excellent and absolutely dominant in the air, heading away cross after cross.

Collins - 7.5
Rallied his defence well and organised the final third against Chelsea well to give his keeper minimal work to do, reducing Chelsea to shot attempts from far.

Warnock - 7.5
Did an admiral job against Sturridge and kept the dangerous youngster at bay all match long, which is easier said than done.

Cuellar - 6
Didn't quite get a handle on Mata, but then again, there aren't many who could have. Still, Cuellar did enough to make sure Mata was forced to float crosses in for Dunne and Collins to handle most of the time.

Clark - 6.5
Sat in the middle well and was always quick to get to get rid of the loose ball in Aston Villa's area.

Petrov (Off 84') - 7.5
Petrov was a constant presence in the middle of the park and was always there to pressuer Chelsea's mifield trio into mistakes.

N'Zogbia (Off 79') - 7.5
One of N'Zogbia's best performance for Villa this season. Full of running and verve, N'Zogbia was always ready to break on the counter and always testing Ferreira.

Albrighton (Off 79') - 8
Up against England's premier left back in Cole, Albrighton acquitted himself decently, trying to exploit the space behind and sharp with his passes to set up counter attacks.

Agbonlahor - 8
He was constantly bugging Terry and Luiz by hanging around their shoulders to exploit the high defensive line and dragging them out of position. However, his finishing could have been better when he was one-on-one with Cech in the 53rd minute.

Ireland - 8.5
Roaming in between Chelsea's midfield and defence, Ireland used the freedom he was given well and looked alert all the time, launching counter-attacks for his side and calmly coordinating his side's play with sharp passing.

Substitutions
Gardner (On 79') -  N/A
Bent (On 79') - N/A
Bannan (On 84') - N/A

Wolves vs Chelsea Player Ratings
Frank Lampard struck in the 89th minute to hand Chelsea a 2-1 win over Wolves at the Molineux on Monday afternoon.

And the victory came as a much-needed boost for under-fire Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, especially after the 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

After a hot-tempered first half which lacked in goal-mouth action, the Blues took the lead nine minutes into the second half when Juan Mata's corner glanced off the head of John Terry, into the path of Ramires, who showed good poise and skill to fire into the top corner.

However, Chelsea looked to have thrown it all away six minutes from time when substitute Steven Fletcher stole in behind Jose Bosingwa before cutting the ball back across the face of goal, for the rampaging Stephen Ward to smash home.

But just when a draw looked on the cards, Ashley Cole bombed down the left and swung in a perfect cross for Lampard to prod home.
Here, ESPNSTAR.com takes a look at the players that took to the Molineux field.

Wolves
Wayne Hennessey - 7.5
Made a couple of good saves early on, including one to deny Juan Mata from close range. Hennessey showed excellent handling when claiming crosses, and could not be blamed for either of Chelsea's goals.

Richard Stearman - 8
Actually deserved a higher rating for an outstanding shift at right-back, but it was his lapse in concentration at the death that allowed Cole to break down the left and swing in the cross for Lampard's winner.
Otherwise, Stearman defended admirably all afternoon, regularly drifting into the centre to help his centre-backs, and made a couple of vital blocks.

Christophe Berra - 7.5
Berra snuffed out the threat of Torres for much of the game. The 26-year-old Scot is currently enjoying an excellent run of form.

Roger Johnson - 7
Played his part in an excellent collective effort from the Wolves defence. Was near unbeatable in the air.

Stephen Ward - 7.5
The adventurous wing-back bagged Wolves' equaliser when his made his way into the box in the 84th minute and met Fletcher's cut-back with a precise shot that flew past Petr Cech.
Ward also stuck to his task manfully, despite having to track Ramires' constant movement.

Adam Hammill - 7
Hammill had an excellent first half, whipping in a couple of dangerous deliveries from freekicks, which led to Wolves' two best chances of the opening 45. However, he slowed down in the second half, and failed to impose himself in the centre of the park.

Karl Henry - 6.5
The former Wolves captain plays his role of defensive midfielder well, hurrying his opponents into giving up possession. However, his distribution leaves plenty to be desired, and Henry would do well to give the ball off at the first opportunity.

Emmanuel Frimpong (off 61') - 6.5
Fairly decent debut from the on-loan midfielder. Failed to offer Mick McCarthy's side anything going forward, but he followed Henry's example well, and never gave the Chelsea players time to dwell on the ball.

Anthony Forde (off 46') - 4.5
Poor display from the youngster, who has been more impressive in previous outings. Hardly got involved in the game, and when he did, he lost possession easily.

David Edwards (off 76') - 5.5
Failed to offer Wolves his trademark drive from midfield. Looked fairly off the pace for much of the game, and unsurprisingly made way fifteen minutes from time.

Kevin Doyle - 6.5
Toiled manfully up front on his own for the opening hour but struggled to get into the game as the joint efforts of David Luiz and John Terry snuffed him out. Fared better when Fletcher was brought on, suggesting McCarthy would do well to field two strikers in their next match.

Subs
Matt Jarvis (on 46') - 7
Was easily Wolves' most dangerous player after coming on at the break, offering a constant outlet down the left flank. Kept Jose Bosingwa busy with his bursts down the left, and his delivery from set pieces wasn't too shabby either.

Steven Fletcher (on 61') - 7
Fletcher was only given half an hour to make an impact, but he showed how much he offers as a target man, sneaking in behind Bosingwa and cutting the ball back for Ward to fire home six minutes from time.
Surprising that he didn't start the match.
Kevin Foley (on 76') - N/A
Good to see Foley back after his recent injury problems, but he didn't exactly have sufficient time to make an impact.

Chelsea
Petr Cech - 8
The 29-year-old Czech showed why he's still regarded as one of the Premier League's best goalkeepers when he saved all three points for his side in the dying minutes of the game by tipping over Doyle's header brilliantly.

Jose Bosingwa - 6.5
Bosingwa looked slightly sloppy in the beginning, failing to get forward in support often, but he came out a different player in the second half, and ventured down the right on a number of occasions.
However, his poor awareness allowed Wolves back in the game, when he allowed Fletcher to sneak in behind him and lay on an assist for Ward.

David Luiz - 7.5
One of Luiz's better performances in recent memory. The Brazilian decided to keep things simple, snapping in on Doyle with sharp tackles, and clearing the ball away at the first opportunity.
Displayed an excellent range of passing too, playing long balls from the back, which might have served Chelsea better had they been playing with two up front.

John Terry - 7
The Blues skipper might probably claim an assist for nodding on Mata's corner into Ramires' path for Chelsea's opener, but truthfully, he didn't know much about it.
Otherwise, another steady display at the back from Terry.

Ashley Cole - 7.5
Like Bosingwa, Cole started the game very poorly, looking lazy when Chelsea looked to bring the ball forward.
However, he came out of the second half a different player, and showed good initiative to burst forward in the 89th minute, putting in the perfect cross for Lampard to tap home.

Oriol Romeu -8
The young Spaniard just keeps getting better by the game, and he once again put in an impressive showing just in front of the Chelsea back four.
Displayed excellent grit when chasing down opponents, yet was equally comfortable when distributing the ball. Chelsea have to do all they can to keep Romeu at Stamford Bridge.

Ramires - 8.5
Made a mockery of the fact he was deployed out of position, playing like a bonafide right-winger. Never stopped charging down the flank, finding his way in behind the Wolves defenders on a number of occasions, although his crosses were always well intercepted.
Gave Chelsea the lead with a moment of brilliance when he trapped the ball from the sky, dragged it out of his feet after getting tangled with Ward, before toe-poking an effort into the top corner.

Raul Meireles - 5
Disappointing game from the Portuguese. Was untidy with his passes, and offered none of his regular bursts down the middle.

Frank Lampard - 8
Lampard struggled to get in the game in the first half, looking slightly disinterested with Mata dictating most of Chelsea's attacks.
However, he got livelier in the second period, and just when Chelsea needed a winner, who else but Lampard to pop up with his trademark late run into the box, before calmly tapping home Cole's centre.

Juan Mata (off 84') - 7.5
Cruised around the field effortlessly, although he was less effective than usual. Still, he constantly seemed like the Chelsea player most likely to create an opening.

Fernando Torres - 7
Full marks for endeavour today for Torres, who never stopped trying to get the better of his opponent. One suspects the moment he bags one goal, the floodgates will open for the Spaniard.
For now, he remains low on confidence and it is showing on the pitch. His first touch was abysmal at times, and while he used to burn past opponents with a shrug of the shoulders, he is finding it almost impossible to dribble past anyone.

Subs
Josh McEachran (on 84') - N/A
We continue to await the day when McEachran gets a proper chance to show what he's capable of, rather than being thrown on with five minutes to go and little time to make an impact.

Swansea City 1-1 Chelsea:
Dramatic late Neil Taylor own goal saves Blues' blushes after Scott Sinclair scores against former club.

Ashley Cole was red-carded as last-gasp equaliser sees two points cruelly snatched away from the hard-working Swans who again impressed at home in the Premier League.

Neil Taylor's late own-goal gifted Chelsea a point as they battled to draw 1-1 with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Scott Sinclair had looked to win the game against his former club after an excellently volleyed opening goal in the first half.

Ashley Cole was sent off late in the second half as Chelsea seemingly ran out of steam but Jose Bosingwa's cross was knocked in by Taylor to give Andre Villas-Boas' men a hard-earned point.

Swans boss Brendan Rodgers made 10 changes to his side following their FA Cup exploits at the weekend with just Ashley Williams remaining from the XI that started against Bolton.

Chelsea boss Villas-Boas again decided against giving Gary Cahill his full-debut with the £7 million man starting on the bench. Branislav Ivanovic played in central defence in place of the injured John Terry.

The home side started the match well, quickly settling into their usual rhythm and maintaining possession well in midfield, as Gylfi Sigurdsson's free-kick caused problems for Chelsea's backline but Danny Graham could only bundle the ball wide under pressure from Ivanovic.

It took the men from west London almost 15 minutes to create an opening, when David Luiz took off on a trademark surge forward and his left-wing cross found Daniel Sturridge who fired wide of Michel Vorm's left-hand post.

Swansea hit back as Angel Rangel's through ball found Graham who turned Ivanovic well but was foiled by Cech when one-on-one, before the ball fell to Sigurdsson who saw a shot blocked. Graham's follow-up was then cleared off the line by Luiz before a fourth effort by Joe Allen was saved by Cech and the Blues continued to live a charmed life.

The Swan's continued to threaten, however, with Sinclair breaking two tackles in midfield before laying the ball to Nathan Dyer, but the former Southampton winger's 25-yard effort was easy for Cech to save.

The home fans were celebrating soon after though, as Sigurdsson's free-kick was weakly headed into the ground by Ivanovic and looped up for Sinclair, who expertly hooked a left-footed effort over his shoulder and into the corner of the Chelsea net. The Liberty Stadium crowd erupted but the Swans' winger refused to celebrate the goal against his former club.

Chelsea had staggered through the first-half and failed to create a chance to equalise before half-time, but saw Cole and Florent Malouda booked for clumsy challenges on Sigurdsson and Leon Britton respectively.

Villas-Boas looked far from impressed as the side's went in for the break and his team came out for the second period with more vigour to their play as they pushed Swansea back into their half but still they struggled to penetrate the Swans' backline, as Williams and Caulker dealt comfortably with the forlorn Fernando Torres.

Bosingwa saw a volleyed effort blocked as Chelsea continued to feed on scraps in front of goal before Michael Essien was brought on for the final 25 minutes, replacing the defensively minded Oriol Romeu.

The Ghanaian almost made a perfect impact on the game, hitting a rasping half-volley over the crossbar with Vorm well beaten.

Swansea had been against the ropes for almost the entire second-half and Brendan Rodgers injected some fresh legs into his midfield, Kemy Agustien coming on for the tiring but otherwise impressive Sigurdsson.

The Blues were looking ominous and Bosingwa tested the home side's defence with a superb run and cross from the right, but Rangel kept calm to clear the ball with a header before Vorm gathered Caulker's deflection from Meireles' follow-up.

The Portuguese full-back was becoming Chelsea's main source of attacking threat as he again surged forward and found Sturridge inside the penalty area - the former Manchester City man turned neatly away from his marker but could only toe-poke the ball agonisingly past the post.

Cole saw a dangerous cross well cut out by Caulker before Bosingwa again went close for the Blues, cutting inside from the right and hitting a swerving effort over the bar.

The Blues' task was made much harder with five minutes remaining as Cole picked up his second booking after a lunging challenge on Dyer, the England left-back will now miss Chelsea's match against Manchester United at the weekend.

The Blues were rewarded for their incessant pressure however, Bosingwa again the danger-man bursting into the box and seeing his cross flash past Vorm thanks to a deflection off the hapless Taylor.
