Man United vs Blackburn Player Ratings
Manchester United were stunned at Old Trafford thanks to a battling Blackburn Rovers side which won 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday in the Premier League.
Man United
De Gea - 3
Had nothing to do in the first half - except pick the ball out of the net after Yakubu scored from the penalty spot. Then just six minutes into the second half he was beaten again after being helplessly exposed by his defenders.
Then in the 80th minute, a nightmare moment for De Gea as he failed to gather a corner, allowing Hanley to beat him in the air and then follow up to nod into the net.

Valencia - 6.5
Valencia's not a natural right-back but has had to play the position because of United's current injury crisis. At times he's been very good in this makeshift role - like against Fulham - but not tonight.
In the second half he was restored to his normal midfield position and duly set up Berbatov for United's second goal to make it 2-2 with 30 minutes to go.
Carrick - 5.5
United sorely needed his passing in the centre of the park but unfortunately Sir Alex Ferguson had to stick him in at the back because of a lack of fit central defenders at Old Trafford. Got yellow carded for a late challenge on Formica in the first half and shortly after the interval was at fault for Rovers' second goal. He never should have let Yakubu turn him so easily.
Evra - 4.5
Evra was wearing the captain's armband but hardly put in the performance expected of him. He gave away a stupid free kick which resulted in the penalty for Rovers and the defensive side of his game did not improve much afterwards - including letting Rochina steal in ahead of him in the 39th minute which nearly led to a second first half goal for Steve Kean's side.

On the plus side, his attacking runs provided United with some much needed width.
Jones - 6
Jones was United's most purposeful player on the pitch in the first half. Even from his central defensive role, Jones tried everything to drive his team forward and kick-start a lackluster looking United attack in the first half.
However, in the second half he might have done better as the covering defender for Rovers' second goal after Yakubu wriggled past Carrick too easily.
Park - 6
Hardworking but where's the creativity? United are always going to struggle if they are relying on Park to create chances from midfield and it was not surprising to see the Red Devils' attack instantly become more potent with the arrivals of Anderson after the break.
Nani - 6
He huffed and puffed but could not blow down the Rovers defence. In the opening exchanges he was United's most lively player and someone who seemed the most likely to make something happen. But as the game wore on - and several poor crosses later - you found yourself shouting at the Portuguese to just keep things simple.
His worst moment? Probably that woeful free-kick in the first half which gave the ball straight back to the opposition - he also got booked for trying to stop Rovers from the counter attack.
Rafael (Off 85') - 6.5
Rafael did well - even when he was played in midfield. Got forward to good effect and had a couple of shots on goal. It was his cross (shot?) which Berbatov stopped low to head United's goal straight after they had down 2-0.
Welbeck - 5.5
Struggled terribly when he was played wide left and although he did much better in the second half when shifted into a more central position, his performance was below average.
Berbatov - 7
It was a silly mistake from the Bulgarian to concede a penalty in the first half. He hauled down Samba by his shirt - to be honest Berbatov struggled all game to mark Samba at set pieces and perhaps Ferguson may have made a mistake in not instructing Jones to perform this task instead (after all Jones knows Samba very well).
Berbatov is United's in-form striker at the moment and he made up for his mistake with two goals in the second half. His second goal was United's 1,500th in the Premier League.
Hernandez (Off 45') - 6
It was a difficult game for Hernandez to influence. United lacked any real width in the first half which meant the United striker was never presented with any clear cut chances. His best moment came in the 29th minute - a nice turn and shot from outside the box which had Bunn diving away to his left, but it flew past the post.
Subs
Anderson (On 45') - 6.5
Anderson came on as United reshuffled their pack at half-time. It was a good call by Ferguson but in the end their defensive injuries caught up with them.
Keane (On 85') - N/A
Nice to see another Keane wearing the red of United but he has a long way to go to emulate the fiery Irishman who once captained United.

Blackburn
Bunn - 7
The young Rovers keeper's stock in English football will have risen a bit more after this performance at Old Trafford. He was solid against Manchester United - claiming crosses and blocking shots - and can feel proud of his day's work despite conceding two goals.
Lowe - 6
The right back is probably shaking his head at how little he was tested at Old Trafford. Visiting defenders are usually given a torrid time at the hands of Manchester United but Lowe's only shaky moment came after he caught Nani outside the box which earned him a yellow card.
Samba - 8
If Blackburn survives the drop this season, it will on the back of heroes like Samba. The huge centre-back bullied his to winning a penalty for his side - which was converted - and stood out at the back as the best defender in the game.
Hanley -7.5
Hanley made a habit of denying United good chances to score with some vital blocks. Then, with the game poised at 2-2 with just 10 minutes to go he embarrasses De Gea in the United goal. He beat De Gea to the corner and nodded home the follow up to score the winner.
Henley - 5.5
His inexperienced showed at times and if there was one weakness in the Rovers defence it came from his flank.
Nzonzi - 6.5
Quietly effective was the name of the game for Nzoni against Manchester United.
Formica (Off 86') - 6.5
One of Rovers more skillful attackers but at times struggled to give quality support to Yakubu who was fantastic as the lone striker.
Petrovic - 6.5
It was great tracking back from Petrovic to deny Evra a clear goal scoring opportunity in the first half. Rafael sprayed the ball out to Welbeck on the left, who then cut it back to Evra. The Frenchman fell under the challenge of Petrovic, but referee Mike Dean rightly waved played on.
Rochina (Off 54') - 6.5
Sir Alex Ferguson's 70th birthday was not too big an occasion for Rochina to handle as his ambitious 40 yard effort proved but it unfortunately it was easily saved. He was brought off for the more defensive Morris with Rovers leading 2-1.
Pedersen - 6.5
Pedersen is the man Rovers depend on to deliver the quality set pieces for the likes of Samba to thrive on. While he did that quite well, the rest of his game was pretty poor.
Yakubu (Off 89') - 8
Just feed the Yak and he'll score. Yakubu's brace helped Rovers earn a famous victory at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
His first goal was the coolest of penalties and his second goal exposed Carrick as a midfielder not a defender. With his back to goal, he turns away from Carrick and Jones before bursting into the box and driving the ball under De Gea.

Came on as Rovers looked to hold out for a win.

LONDON - Kelab tercorot, Blackburn Rovers memberi 'hadiah' hari jadi paling bermakna buat Alex Ferguson selepas menewaskan pasukan bimbingannya 2-3 di Old Trafford pada aksi Liga Perdana Inggeris semalam.

Kekalahan tersebut menyaksikan United melepaskan peluang terbaik untuk memulakan hari pertama tahun 2012 pada tangga teratas liga, menyebabkan Ferguson menyambut hari jadi ke-70 semalam dengan suasana suram.

Parti hari jadi Ferguson di Old Trafford pada mulanya berlangsung dengan lancar apabila penyokong Red Devils berdiri menyanyikan lagu Selamat Hari Jadi buat Ferguson, yang sebelum itu mengumumkan dia akan bersara dalam tempoh tiga tahun lagi.

Bagaimanapun United terpaksa mengakhiri tahun 2011 dengan penuh kekecewaan selepas pemain muda Blackburn, Grant Hanley menjaringkan gol kemenangan pada minit ke-80 apabila De Gea gagal menangkap kemas sepakan sudut Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Petanda awal kekalahan United boleh dilihat melalui percaturan pelik susunan pemain apabila meletakkan pemain tengah, Michael Carrick beraksi pada pertahanan tengah bersama Phil Jones manakala pertahanan kanan, Rafael beraksi pada bahagian tengah, bergandingan dengan Park Ji-Sung.

MANCHESTER - Ketiadaan Wayne Rooney dalam skuad Manchester United ketika kekalahan mengejut 2-3 kepada Blackburn di Old Trafford kelmarin mengundang pelbagai persoalan.

Rupa-rupanya, Rooney disisihkan Alex Ferguson gara-gara keluar makan malam bersama isterinya, Coleen sehari selepas sambutan Hari Natal.

Dua rakan sepasukan, Jonny Evans dan Darron Gibson bersama pasangan masing-masing, turut menyertai Rooney dan isteri.

Difahamkan, percakapan Rooney, Evans dan Gibson mengenai keseronokan pada malam tersebut sewaktu sesi latihan pada sehari selepas itu, sampai ke pengetahuan Ferguson.

Ferguson kemudian memanggil Rooney ke pejabatnya untuk menyatakan rasa tidak puas hatinya.

Seperti mana-mana kelab lain, United mengenakan peraturan ketat untuk dipatuhi pemainnya.

Mereka bertiga kemudian diarahkan untuk melakukan latihan tambahan Rabu lalu, meskipun ia jatuh pada hari cuti, dan pada malam Jumaat, Rooney diberitahu dia tidak akan diturunkan untuk perlawanan menentang Rovers.

Penyerang England itu juga dikenakan potongan gaji dan hukuman keras Fergie menyebabkan dia tidak berpuas hati.

Rooney ready to return

Manchester United are set to welcome back striker Wayne Rooney for the Barclays Premier League clash at Newcastle on Wednesday.
Press Association Sport understands Ferguson fined Rooney, and Republic of Ireland international Darron Gibson, and forced the pair to train on their day off last week after ill-advised conduct on Boxing Day night.
Neither the club nor the player's representative would confirm Rooney was axed from Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Blackburn as part of his punishment.
Ferguson told Sirius XM radio station: "We're trying hard to get Rio Ferdinand for (Wednesday) and Ryan Giggs which would make a good difference to us. Anderson should be better, he had 45 minutes on Saturday after four months out. There are no other ones to come back immediately. And Wayne Rooney will be available of course.
"We had a few training sessions which he missed. You've got to be fit to play in this league, you can't miss training sessions."
Asked about United's injury problems, which have also included the loss of defender Nemanja Vidic for the rest of the season, Ferguson added: "We're getting a lot of impact injuries, contact injuries. Maybe the way we play creates that because we're always wanting to have the ball and we're always wanting to play."
