Beckenbauer Has Dig At Lahm And Schweinsteiger
Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer has taken it upon himself to voice his opinions once more with praise for Jürgen Klinsmann, but criticism for both Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The club president has been greatly impressed with what he has seen of new trainer Jürgen Klinsmann and the changes he has implemented at the club since taking over from Ottmar Hitzfeld.
“I have full trust in him” Beckenbauer revealed in Welt Kompakt. “The way he has started with us, his concepts and ideas have greatly impressed the board. He has our 100% support.
“I just hope that the players follow his example and are able to support his new ideas” he added.
Despite his obvious admiration for Klinsmann, Beckenbauer couldn’t resist the chance to have a go at some of the so-called Bayern stars.
“Every single player has to strive to improve themselves individually. It cannot be for example that a Philipp Lahm or a Bastian Schweinsteiger- and I’m talking about two key players- can go five years and still not be able to cross a ball with their left foot.
“The team needs that. It also needs a decent goalkeeper” he added.
Those are words that will not exactly fill Oliver Kahn’s successor Michael Rensing with a huge amount of self-confidence.

Inter Beat Bayern To Lift Beckenbauer Cup
Inter beat Bayern Munich 1-0 thanks to a goal by Amantino Mancini just after half time to win the Beckenbauer Cup.
Tonight Bayern Munich hosted Inter for a prestigious friendly which would award the "Beckenbauer Cup". It was not a match to be remembered, with very few chances, but Inter won't mind as they only needed a fine goal by new purchase Amantino Mancini, early in the second half, to secure a morale-boosting victory.
Coach Jose Mourinho played with his trademark 4-3-3 system with Esteban Cambiasso in central defence, Dejan Stankovic in front of the back four, and Adriano as a lone striker supported by Figo and Mancini on the flanks. Meanwhile, Bayern had a 3-5-2 formation with Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski as strikers.
The first half was very locked up as both teams struggled to raise the rhythm and create chances, leading to jeers and whistles from the crowd at half-time.
In the 7th minute of the restart a mistake by goalkeeper Michael Rensing allowed Inter to open the score. A poor goal kick allowed Inter to win the ball, Figo playing it to Mancini who fired a subtle lob which went in off the crossbar.
After this, Inter began to sat back to defend their lead, and did that remarkably well. It seems that Mourinho has already managed to give the Nerazzurri the same efficiency and organisation he gave Chelsea.
Among Inter's more impressive performers on the night were goalkeeper Francesco Toldo, 36, who still showed the same sharpness he had 10 years ago, Adriano, who seems to be improving with every game although he was somewhat isolated in this game, and Cambiasso, who once again showed his versatility by proving to be a rock in central defence.
Meanwhile, Bayern youngster Toni Kroos, who came in after 22 minutes to replace the injured Martin DeMichelis, showed some of the qualities which prompted German journalists to predict a bright future for him. |
