Emmanuel Adebayor To Miss Three Key Weeks Of Arsenal's Season With Hamstring Injury

The talismanic striker is set to be sidelined through a crucial part of the Gunners' season...

Arsenal strikerEmmanuel Adebayor seems set to miss the next three weeks through ahamstring injury that he sustained during the 1-1 draw in the northLondon derby against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

TheTogo forward limped off the pitch after pulling up in the 35th minuteof the game at White Hart Lane, and will now miss a crucial part of theGunners' season.

The 24-year-old is set to miss the PremierLeague game against Sunderland, the FA Cup match against Cardiff Cityand could miss the first leg of the knockout stage in the ChampionsLeague clash against AS Roma.

The loss will no doubt be a bigone for Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger but his spirits could be liftedwith the return of Eduardo da Silva, who has recovered from thecrippling ankle injury he suffered last year and could feature in thecoming weeks for the first time in nearly a year.

Wenger'sattacking options have also been given a boost by the record signing ofRussian starlet Andrei Arshavin, who joined the Gunners at the end ofthe transfer window last week from Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg, and will surely add some much needed creativity to a depleted Arsenalmidfield.

However, the 27-year-old will have to wait a couple ofweeks while he regains his match fitness, as he has not played acompetitive match for two months since the end of the Russian PremierLeague season.

Ten-Man Arsenal Hold On Against Tottenham Hotspur

The Gunners had a man sent off early, but they managed to hold on and claim a point against their rampaging rivals...

Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 Arsenal

This edition of the north London derby sees two teams desperate toresurrect their disappointing campaigns. While Arsenal hope to closethe gap between themselves and the top four, Tottenham Hotspur's aimsare decidedly more basic: avoid the drop.

Carlo Cudicini retains his place in the Spurs goal despite HeurelhoGomes being declared fit, while Robbie Keane graces White Hart Lane forthe first time since his returnfrom Liverpool. Andrey Arshavin only makes theGunners bench alongside Eduardo da Silva, who returns to the first-teamsquad almost 12 months after his horrific leg-break last season.

First Half

Both sides attacked from the off, and the game didn't take long toreach derby speed. Emmanuel Eboue drove the visitors forward early, andmoments later Aaron Lennon forced Manuel Almunia intoa save after some clever work on the right wing.

After 13 minutes, Arsenal had the ball in the net. Again it was Ebouemaking the play, tearing down the left flank into the box and squaringfrom the byline. Cudicini kept out Emmanuel Adebayor's close-rangeattempt but the ball fell to Eboue, who worked some space and pokedhome - only for the referee to call a foul on Adebayor.

Not long after, Spurs were on the front foot once more, and RomanPavlyuchenko should perhaps have tested the goalkeeper. Assou-Ekotto'ssecond-attempt cross found the Russian, who blasted way over on thehalf-volley from around 12 yards. No marking to speak of.

Twenty-seven minutes in, a sharp move from the Lilywhites gave  Lennonanother chance. Assou-Ekotto won the ball in the middle and fed thelively Luka Modric, who found enough room to hit an inch-perfectthrough-ball to his winger. Lennon burst past Gael Clichy but scuffedhis effort the wrong side of the post. Modric was involved againinstantly, sending a powerful shot goalward from 20 yards - but Almuniahad no problems.

And then a moment of Vedran Corluka madness nearly saw Spurs concede. The Croatian horribly misjudged an over-hit Arsenal pass, trying to letit trickle into touch and allowing Samir Nasri to nip in and winpossession. The resulting squared ball amazingly missed all attackersand was cleared by the grateful Tottenham rearguard.

Tragedy for the visitors just after half-hour mark, as Adebayor andEboue exited the game within seconds of each other. The former pulledup with a busted hamstring and was stretchered off the pitch, and hisfellow African joined him on the sidelines instantly after picking up asecond booking for a foolish kick-out at Modric. Inexplicable yet allto typical from Eboue, who had actually been playing fairly well.

The challenges were flying in from everywhere, and Clichy found himselfin Mike Dean's book two minutes short of half-time for upending Lennon.Wilson Palacios was somewhat more precise with his tackling, refusingto let the Gunners into their attacking third. The Honduran providedplenty going forward as well; he stung Almunia's finger tips with anabsolute rocket at the end of the first period.

Second Half

Pavlyuchenko had a decent chance to putTottenham ahead shortly after the restart, breezing past Kolo Touredown the left before darting into the area and blasting his shot wellwide. Corluka hit the target soon after, following another jinking runfrom the impressive and hard-working Lennon, but his weak strike didn'tdo justice to the build-up.

It was all Spurs at this point, andKeane nearly marked his return to the Lane with a goal. Lennon wasagain the creator, crossing from the right and finding his skipper'sscone, and the Irishman's header only just flew over the crossbar andonto the roof of the net.

Darren Bent replaced Pavlyuchenkoaround the hour, but it was Robin van Persie who nearly found the netagainst the run of play. A scrappy corner from Arsenal fell to theDutchman, who turned in an awkward position and blasted a screamingeffort marginally off target. Almost a signature stunner from the25-year-old.

In the 70th minute, Alexandre Song missed a sitter, brushing van Persie's corner wide from dead in front. About 60 secondslater, Keane came within inches of putting the hosts ahead, controllinga loose ball and smashing a volley just past Almunia's right-hand postfrom 22 yards.

But it remained goalless going into the last 15minutes as the men of Ashburton Grove gradually worked their way intothe game, with the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and van Persie providingmost of the spark. Spurs had more of the ball, but their gueststhreatened on the counter.

There was a nervy moment for the homeside five minutes from time, as Bendtner broke forward - while GaelClichy, bleeding profusely from the head, lay prone at the other end ofthe park - and played a clever ball in from the right edge of the box.Jonathan Woodgate got a faint touch which threw Cudicini, but theItalian managed to gather on the second attempt.

Bendtner forcedthe former Chelsea 'keeper into action again with a fizzing effort asthe game ticked into injury time, but Tottenham had an even betterchance moments later. Modric, fed through on the break by Adel Taarabt, shot into an onrushing Almunia - a vital stop from the Spaniard thatensured his side a point.

Tottenham Hotspur: Cudicini,Corluka (Chimbonda 74), Woodgate, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon (Taarabt87), Palacios, Jenas, Modric, Keane, Pavlyuchenko (Bent 64).

Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Gallas (Gibbs 87), Toure, Clichy, Eboue*, Denilson, Song, Nasri, van Persie, Adebayor (Bendtner 38).
